Royal Caribbean was forced to change the scheduled itineraries for two of its cruise ships today, due to the predicted path of a tropical disturbance.

Royal Caribbean spokesman Owen Torres told Royal Caribbean Blog the change was made, "to ensure our guests enjoy a safe and comfortable cruise. Given the storm’s current location and projected path, we had no other option but to revise itineraries for Empress of the Seas and Liberty of the Seas."

Empress of the Seas revised itinerary will be

Monday, August 1: Miami, Florida
Tuesday, August 2: Key West, Florida
Wednesday, August 3: At Sea
Thursday, August 4: Nassau, Bahamas
Friday, August 5: CocoCay, Bahamas
Saturday, August 6: Miami, Florida

Liberty of the Seas revised itinerary will be

Sunday, July 31: Galveston, Texas
Monday, August 1: At Sea
Tuesday, August 2: Cozumel, Mexico
Wednesday, August 3: At Sea
Thursday, August 4: Nassau, Bahamas
Friday, August 5: At Sea
Saturday, August 6: At Sea
Sunday, August 7: Galveston, Texas

Royal Caribbean will continue to monitor the path and progress of the tropical disturbance in the Western Caribbean.

Spotted: Izumi sushi in Windjammer on Liberty of the Seas

Royal Caribbean's Liberty of the Seas might not have the amazing Japanese specialty restaurant Izumi, but it is offering guests the next best thing: sushi from Izumi!

The Windjammer buffet on Liberty of the Seas has always had its Asian-cuisine section, known as Jade, where guests can sample various Asian food.

While on Liberty of the Seas last week, reader Rob Chang sent us a photo of the new sushi options in Jade, which carry the Izumi branding.

Sushi from Jade on Liberty of the Seas

Rob reports the sushi tasting of a higher quality and being a better experience than what was there previously.  Plus, the sushi in Jade is still complimentary.

Sushi has been traditionally available at Jade on most evenings, but the quality of the sushi was never spectacular.

It is not clear yet if this Izumi sushi on Liberty of the Seas is permanent or if it will become available on other Royal Caribbean ships that do not have an Izumi.

Tidal Wave slide is open on Royal Caribbean's Liberty of the Seas

After months of delays, the Tidal Wave slide is finally open on Royal Caribbean's Liberty of the Seas.

The first Boomerang-style slide at sea is now open to all guests and features a steep drop that propels riders up a near vertical wall for a moment of weightlessness and into free fall.

Royal Caribbean Blog reader Rena reported that the brand new slide opened the afternoon of June 3rd and was open all day yesterday.

Royal Caribbean refurbished Liberty of the Seas back in January, and added the Tidal Wave slide, but it never opened to guests in the sailings since the refurbishment work was done.

Evidently, there were additional issues with operating the slide safely, and Royal Caribbean opted to take additional time to perfect the slide experience and ensure it would be operating safely for all guests.

Royal Caribbean to open Tidal Wave water slide on Liberty of the Seas in June

16Apr2016

The Tidal Wave water slide on Royal Caribbean's Liberty of the Seas has never opened to guests, but there is a new opening date that points to when guests can begin riding it.

Royal Caribbean updated its web site to indicate the new slide, "will be available in June."

The Tidal Wave is the first Boomerang style slide at sea, but has never opened to guests following its addition to the ship earlier this year.

We have heard the reason the slide remains closed is due to concerns of guests' safety while riding.

Royal Caribbean has had to design padding for the areas where guests may impact the slide, and that is being built currently.

Tidal Wave slide on Royal Caribbean's Liberty of the Seas remains closed

In:
05Mar2016

The brand new Tidal Wave water slide on Royal Caribbean's Liberty of the Seas remains closed to guests, despite the ship returning to service following a dry dock nearly a month ago.

The Tidal Wave is the first Boomerang style slide at sea, but has never opened to guests in the voyages since the ship resumed sailings.

At a Captain's Corner talk event on Liberty of the Seas this week, the ship's Chief Engineer commented that their team discovered the variation of guest weight, and the position a person may take on the tube you ride on, makes a wide range of operation. In order to ensure that it is strong enough for all, there is a good chance that people will hit the top of the slide with some regularity. Not hard, but still make contact.

Royal Caribbean has had to design padding for the areas where guests may impact the slide, and that is being built currently.

The Chief Engineer indicated they hope some pieces of this new padding waiting in Galveston, when the ship returns there on Sunday.

After all padding parts are delivered, the team will install and paint them.  The Chief Engineer estimated that he doesn't see the Tidal Wave running for a few more sailings yet.

The new hair-raising slide features a steep drop that propels riders up a near vertical wall for a moment of weightlessness and into free fall.

Special thanks to Royal Caribbean Blog reader Paul Crow for conveying the update to us.

Guests have the choice between riding the green or orange slide.

Royal Caribbean Blog reader Chris Bowers reported there was an LED light in the green slide and it was a "fast ride."  He also noted that if you have a choice, he preferred gren because it had great visuals.
