R Bars

Hi -- Wife and I will be sailing on Serenade for the GC in October and it looks like this ship still has an R Bar.  This is our first Radiance class cruise.  Maybe this bar type is still common on this class of ship, though we have never come across one, sailing mostly on the larger ship classes.  We really enjoyed Champagne Bars on Oasis class before they mostly all were converted into bionic bars (no thanks--unless really bored and have the DXL...even then not much fun).  Thinking the R Bar may be a throwback in the vein of Champagne Bar that would be fun to experience before they go bionic one day, too...

Have any (good, great?) experiences at R Bars?  Any off-the-menu (or on-the-menu) specialty drinks they might offer that are unique to R Bars?  I suspect they all are locked into pretty much the same ship's/fleet's drink menu, but maybe not.

R Bars is a new thing to me...

 

I looked them up, discovered I've been in them, but didn't know it was anything other than just another bar.  Research says they feature drinks of the past, but still offer a menu of modern drinks.  So, I was right.  It is just another bar.

The “R” of the RBar actually stands for Retro.  I remember when those bars were first created.  I cannot, however, recall the name of the bar that they replaced.

With them changing the name of the Viking Crown bar on so many ships, I can't remember if that was its own standalone bar or just another dumb name for the Viking Crown.

The R Bar is the bar on the main floor of the Centrum deck 4. It's the main floor where you board on embarkation.

Ah, now I remember. Several late night drinks purchased in cruises past.

Thanks, All -- perhaps R Bars have not been the most memorable of bars.  But I remain intrigued by the retro concept.  Guess I'll reserve judgment until I get my first drink at one in the Centrum on Serenade in a couple months...and find out what retro concoctions they offer.

There is very little special about R Bars (on Radiance class ships) with one major exception:

They all look out on to the Centrum … in particular the dance floor. There is lots of entertainment and activities in the Centrum, so the R Bar can get busy.
 

Not all Radiance class ships have R Bars …and we barely notice the difference when we are on Jewel (“not R”) or Radiance (R).

We actually spend a lot time in the Centrum Bar (R or “not R”). Radiance class ships have a lot of opportunities to dance from happy hour onwards. It is very easy to find us … just look for the couple on the dance floor that are having a blast.

We like the R-bar for cocktails before dinner if we are dressed up a little. Mostly because they are easily accessible, but feels a little more 'fancy' than say the Schooner Bar. Mostly it's just on the way to wherever we are going.

We enjoyed the R Bar on the Grandeur of the Seas last week.  We attended many entertainment venues at the centrum and had cocktails from the R Bar.  Great place to hang out and people watch.
