deButler
Just got off of Radiance and was sorely disappointed to find that they had removed their Craps Table. In talking to the Casino Host she indicated that when they were “Down Under” for a while cruising Australia that they “did not need it”. Not sure if it was due to local laws there or just no one was playing. I believe they may have swapped it out for another Roulette table as we had 2 of those in a smaller sized casino and usually only one of them was opened. We primarily just resorted to slot play this time but I much prefer the action around the craps table. I am now trying to make sure not to repeat this experience and wondered if there are any detailed lists available anywhere showing the actual tables in the onboard casino? The Club Royal site shows the number of tables and slot machines onboard each ship on the Casino Host list but that’s as far as it goes. Are there others that have sailed on other Ships that also did not feature a Craps Table in their casino?

CruisingNewb
The dynamics of a casino has changed so much over the years. I am originally from Vegas and my father was in casino management (over 50 years) from the Frank Rosenthal days. My father used to say that in order for a casino to be profitable, it needs 2 Baccarat tables and at least 1 craps table. All other table games are unnecessary. Keep in mind that was early 70's to mid-80s perspective. Now, penny slots are huge and generate unbelievable revenue. Black Jack is a funny game because at first blush, the math tells you its the least amount of risk for the player. But black jack tables often charge a commission and have a house edge. Meaning, over time, the casino makes money. Because the initial math makes the game attractive to players, they tend to play longer and then father time kicks their asses. Funny thing about craps, I have never in my life seen a true casino without a craps table. deButler

I wouldn’t bet my cruise bankroll on it though

The craps table energy usually feeds the rest of the house and keeps things moving. It was very quiet late nights on our cruise.

That is why (especially on cruises) the craps table is smack dab in the middle if not front of the casino. Nothing beats the excitement level of a craps table...until I do the walk of shame with pockets inside out. Bowler
It's understandable that they took the Craps table off the ship if it's cruising Australia. There are VERY few Craps tables in Australian casinos, with just one or two in the larger ones and none at all in the smaller casinos. It's just not a game played by Aussies, mainly due to very few people understand it. Asian casinos are similar... deButler

I kind of figured that might be the case from how the Casino Host referred to sailing out of Australia. Will also have to keep that in mind as the wife would like to hit some of the Asian itineraries. Thanks..

I suspect you'll be able to find a craps table on an Asian area ship, but typical land casinos in Macau, Singapore etc are wall to wall baccarat tables and slots. Craps is just not viable for Asian/Australian casinos given it takes 4 dealers (3 + 1 on break) and a Supervisor to run the game and generally sits in a quiet corner of the casino with no customers because few know how to play it. That's a shame because as noted above, it's a game which can get the crowd going and keep them entertained. Before retiring back to Australia just over 12 months ago I worked at Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore which was comfortably inside the worlds Top 10 casinos based on GGR and we had a grand total of ZERO craps tables in the whole casino... deButler

Everyone has their favorite games they’d rather play and if they aren’t familiar with how to play craps then it’s on to something else. When it comes to the house operation it all starts with $$. Thanks for the insights. Bowler

I was on Grandeur last September and there was a craps table. I remember it extremely well because a craps player was shouting, screaming, getting physical with the pit boss, and refusing to leave. He was cheating by sliding dice and told he was not welcome in the casino anymore. Only time I have personally seen security have to physically detain anyone on a cruise. deButler and WAAAYTOOO 1
Avfrattner
Sorry to here, that sucks....I love the craps and I wish Australian casinos had them still! They had craps on OVTS Jan 4th 23 and it was always fun/busy and had great atmosphere around it. Absolutely stupid that they took it off because of "Australians" Quite a lot of us. Australians really loved the craps table and we all learnt off of each other and had a great time. Not sure why they would do that but post COVID! What makes more money slot machines, roulette with double zero or craps? Who knows. deButler

NoobCruise
I wonder.... no hope, that there is a craps table on Wonder that is active. I was sad to see the craps table empty on oasis last may. It might have come alive at midnight or past my bedtime but it was not functional during my waking hours. so sad. WAAAYTOOO
Craps is one of those games that’s either “waaay on” or “waaay off” on any given cruise. It’s much the same with regular Texas Hold ‘Em. Either the crowd is playing or they aren’t. Nothing more exciting than a hoppin’ craps table with lots of energy and enthusiasm but if the craps crowd isn’t on board, it will lie dormant. We used to have a big group that cruised together and we always lit up the craps table when we sailed. So much fun. deButler

We’ll have to make sure our “celebrity casino host” @CHRIS WONG amps up the Craps Play and gets us plenty of playing time. I’m hoping to complete my Prime on this trip. KrabKlawz
@bobrooI was on the grandeur 10-14-22 out of Galveston and there was 1 craps table on the ship. It didn't open till 6pm which was a bummer for the early morning people but it was there. deButler
brdjnr
On Mariner a couple years ago a guy was giving the craps dealer all kinds of grief because the odds were like 1x. He was acting as though that dealer set the odds for the table. I'd never seen a table (and I have seen my share) with 1x odds. I didnt play much and that was part of the reason. Heck they had a $5 single zero roulette table running later that night, once the double zero tables overflowed.

And what many folks don’t realize is that they won’t use an odds bet as part of your comps calculations. brdjnr
