We did this today. We were picked up at the staging area and went by bus for a short ride to the starting point. There were clean bathrooms there and a place to purchase drinks for the ride. It takes about 90 minutes to complete the trip and you might even get a chance to steer the raft. We were given life jackets and could take them off after a spell. Always felt safe from the time we were picked up until dropped off back at the ship. A “thrill” ride it is not. But if you’re looking for a quiet, peaceful, ride down the Martha Brae river, this is great! My wife and I were on the first raft. There were 2 ships in port and a lot of people on this excursion. I certainly would do it again and highly recommend it.

Do you think it would be OK to bring our 4 year old on? or is it more for adults?

If the 4 year old can sit still for the entire ride,  it will not be an issue. If they get squirmy and want to move around…they can actually get hurt as their feet can go through the gap between the bamboo poles and get stuck or cut up if they don’t step correctly. Our guide showed us a scar on his leg from this happening to him when he was new.
