monorailmedic
I was just browsing some options for a quick getaway between now and the September group cruise and saw the Empress sailing on June 30th. I noticed it overnights in Nassau, but honestly can't think of why they might be doing this instead of a sea day. Sure they don't have fuel costs that way, but they're paying more to the port, and can't open the casinos or shops, so it seems like a real revenue ding without the incentive other ports might have for overnight stays. Thoughts? BH
tonyfsu21
^^^^ I believe RC has an agreement much like overnights in Bermuda where the casino stays open. It's a great trip especially since you can party at Atlantis and get back to the ship late!
DocLC
This seems to be a new trend among the cruise lines; Carnival made a big announcement a few months back regarding staying in port longer. My best guess is that guests--my wife included--complain about short port stops. We had ver long port stops last year in Europe, as late as 11 pm and even an overnight in Iceland, and it was great. This was the primary reason why my wife picked our Baltic cruise this coming summer as it overnights in three of the ports and is in each port late into the evening. Oh, I love overnight stops - no question there. In the Med for example it can be great. I was just surprised to see Nassau in particular. Are you suggesting that Nassau has less appeal than the Med? ;)
PRC
Ah...Nassau at night: If you can get them to turn the music down on the pool deck, you'll be able to hear the gunfire. ;) DocLC

monctonguy
I have had 2 of my cruises end up staying overnight due to missing coco cay... I enjoyed the nightlife very much there....but to each their own. DocLC and Matt

I remember we we there one night when the power for most of the city was out, so a bunch of us stopped into a nearly dead Carlos and Charlie's for drinks as they had a backup generator. Every time they turned on the blender the lights dimmed....so everyone ordered frozen drinks. :) But all that was pre Natalee Holloway...
