Aruba and Curacao evenings

We are heading back out on Freedom January 20th and have noted a 9pm and 8pm departure from Aruba and Curacao. We have daytime excursions set but looking for any advice for things to do in the late afternoon or early evening in either location.

Also looking forward to live blogging. I had a blast doing it this past September!

We were in both recently and were in Curacao until 8pm.  (Aruba we left at 6pm.)  But everyone was back on the ship well before the 7:30 all aboard and the whole area was quiet.   Because the two ports are so close to each other, we puttered out to the ocean and sat for a couple of hours before slowly moving on.  We did have an older crowd, so that could be part of it.  There is a lot in the area to walk to right from the ship, so there will be places to go.  We wandered the port area in Curacao after returning from our excursion early afternoon.  We found a little piazza where we sat and had some cold beers and enjoyed the shade and breeze.

We were in Curacao until 11pm 2 years ago and we went to dinner at Perla Del Mar at the suggestion of a cruiser who had been on board for 9 weeks and frequently ate off of the ship. It was very delicious and it's an easy 20(ish) minute walk from the ship. We walked back to the ship after dark and never felt unsafe. The restaurant sits on the water and the view of the ship at night is wonderful! There are several shops and bars in Rif Fort that are also really cool at night. That is right off of the pier.

For Aruba, we are thinking about going to dinner at Lucy's Retired Surfers Bar or West Deck. I think they are both about 10-15 min walk from the ship and both sit on the water.

I look forward to reading your live blog when we get back! We aren't purchasing Voom but it'll be cool to read about the same cruise through someone else's eyes!

When Royal ships visit the ABC's they often mix it up and which island you stay the latest can vary.  For us we had Aruba with a midnight departure,  Bonaire at 8 pm and Curaçao at 6pm.

Google sunset times and consider being on a beach for sunset.  That's a rare treat for cruisers as most times you have to be back on board before sunset.

In Aruba we enjoyed late afternoon on Eagle Beach with a sunset to follow:

We were on Aruba in October until 9pm, we went back on shore and had dinner at the Sea Salt, a local restaurant, it was very good and about a 10-15 minute walk from the ship, it on the water front and adjacent to a casino.

Also make sure you get pictures of the ship at night from the dock, not something that you get to do very often, because you are usually sailing during sun set.
