I should add....that I am following my own advice on this one.  I don't have a JS booked but b/c we are very junior level Pinnacles, we are basically in the same boat as the Sea class folks when we sail non-suite (which is more and more common for us these days).  I have purchased 3 night packages for our upcoming Wonder and Oasis cruises with hopes of enjoying the CK the other nights and we also have our BOGO meals to use.  If we aren't able to get into the CK then there will be much thrashing and gnashing of teeth (kidding) but we will not starve !

i understand ,  CK is just that Good !!    We will see

Believe it or not, I have never sailed on an Oasis or Quantum class ship in a JS !  ...so I have no experience with this situation at all.  I have certainly heard of many people who have and for the most part, dinner in the CK is mixed on O class ships and nearly 100% available (from feedback) on the Q class ships.

My advice is this:  book a 3 night dining package and plan on eating "out" for 3 nights of your 6 or 8 night cruise.  Then, plan on being able to get into the CK the rest of the evenings.  I think your chances on OY are really quite good if you get to the CK maitre'd early and make your query as soon as you board.

I do certainly understand your concern and it is a gamble for sure....but I think the odds are [ever] in your favor !

    Thank you

It will depend on the ship and the specific sailing.  Prices differ widely.  The longer the cruise, the more a UDP will cost.  There is no cap.

Have you considered whether a UDP for a 21 night cruise would be something that you really want to do ?  Eating at the same restaurants with static menus is going to get old.  With the longer sailings Royal used to offer a 5 night package.  Not sure if they would ever offer more than 5 nights if your cruise were even longer.  Remember, the UDP work for lunch on sea days as well as dinners every night of the cruise.

My recommendation would be to buy a shorter dining package and augment it with MDR and other complimentary options.  At least with the MDR you will have a changing menu and not be stuck with the same menus for 3 weeks.

Hello quick question , i know you get allot of JS have you ever had a problem getting in to Coastal kitchen when in a JS , we are on the Odyssey this March 2nd in a JS, and i did not book any Specialty Dining packages in hopes of CK, but i am a little worried getting a reservation,  then i would be upset i did not book Specialty dining , what are your thoughts ,

Radiance is a smaller ship with fewer specialty restaurants, but the unlimited dining package for our 14 night cruise in April is $448 per person.

Chops, Izumi, Samba Grill, Giovanni's Table (and Chef's Table w/$49.99 surcharge)

now that is not Bad price

I am on the Ovation in April for a 18 night cruise and they do not offer the UDP.  You can get a 3 night, 5 night and 10 night dinning plans.  the 3 and 5 night is about $44 USD a night and the 10 night is about $36 USD a night.  The 10 night cruise that I am on just before the 18 night has the UDP for $415 USD.

so now i am getting options 5 nite is $244 10 nite is $360  ,  after talking to Waaytooo i would not buy UDP , but may consider 5 or 10 nite at least for sure 5 Nite

We are on Quantum in a couple of weeks for a 7-night cruise. On this cruise the UDP is $627NZD (roughly $380 USD) per person.

Ballpark based on this would be $89 NZD per day X 21 days = $1869 NZD ($1142 USD pp)

For a longer voyage I would expect it to be slightly cheaper but there are only limited specialty restaurants on Quantum with unchanging menus.

I personally don't believe this would be good value for money.

i agree way to much money !!     Wow

Yes i am considering the 5 nite package , i am curious what the difference price points are so i may compare what direction i would go,, But you have some valid points same place over and over gets old,

Got it, the December 2022 where they sent out a letter with an offer for volunteers to sail free on the same cruise in an inside cabin well ahead of arrival at the terminal and a thread from a one off poster 5 years ago about which other posters here were skeptical if it even occurred.

That's not enough for me to worry about the GTY category or panic about getting to at the terminal and being turned away.

Even if the 2018 one is real, a five year gap between this kind of situation doesn't really make it common.

Normaly you would be correct but the cruise  i am questioning is a month long vacation and it took a act of god for my wife to get the time off , and her boss told her to never ask for anything again like that , and  $4000 airline flights from florida to Australia and and $2500 of hotels , so yes i am worried !!!!

Here is one of the articles i have found real quick for you and i have heard there is another , those are the ones i know of

Royal Caribbean International has contacted select guests booked aboard an upcoming sailing on Wonder of the Seas with the unfortunate news that the cruise is oversold and their original stateroom bookings are not available. Guests have been offered an alternative, but not everyone may be happy with the option.

    Wonder of the Seas Overbooked

In an email sent to impacted guests, Royal Caribbean International has informed them of the overbooking. “We’re sorry to inform you that due to an unexpected inventory error, your scheduled Wonder of the Seas December 11th, 2022 sailing is currently oversold in certain stateroom categories,”

Here is another from 2018  and this was just a 30 second  research ....

    Guaranteed & Overbooked = BUMPED

I don't know of the other 2 times there were day of refusals.  Can you guide me to info there?  I'll educate myself on them.

For me, this isn't their MO for overbooking, they do have an MO which is letters seeking volunteers many weeks in advance.

Emergencies can come up and if they do, on day of, you can’t put people in cabins you expected in good faith yesterday but are uninhabitable today.

Feel free to worry as much as you like, and you might be right that it's a calculated attempt.  I just don't see that and based on their normal operation around overbooking, lean toward some emergency for this one.

You'll be fine @daha699.  None of us know, but it's really doubtful this was a traditional overbook situation based on greed.  Those situations are historically addressed weeks in advance with letters and volunteers.  This situation smacks of something of an urgent nature that came up the day of requiring the reconsideration of a group of cabins.

I'm all for picking your room for a ton of reasons, but extrapolating the one instance of day of cancellations to mean GTY is somehow more dangerous or risky than it has ever been is probably overkill.

If this was a one off you would be probably correct but this has happened at least three time in past three years that i am aware of ,  and if people accept it and not voice there concern, companies will make this a normal Practice,  and that is the fear of mine,  Companies do things to test the waters and see how things are perceived that is what some company's do ....  Like airline over book as a standard Practice ,  If cruise line start doing that as a standard Practice ..  That is not acceptable .

And could really hurt people and Families

If this is correct and it happened like this is a terrible, disgusting job by Royal Caribbean. I mean I'm honestly speechless at this one. This is piss poor and unacceptable.

Everyone knows how much we love Royal Caribbean but this is ridiculous.

I just contacted my travel agent i have Sydney cruise on Ovation  in early 2025 for a JR Suite GTY ,  but all the suits are sold out already and i still have not gotten a room assignment and will have airline flights and hotels so i asked my travel agent to ask if Royal can give me a cabin assignment sooner then later since all the suits are showing as sold ,,,  I would be furious if i was cancelled like the people in this article ,       i will see what happens .

Wow, I've by monitoring it on my cruises and is been 131.99 for a long time. Was hoping it would get down to around 100 but oh well. I've saved a bit on some stuff so I'm happy. Any savings is a good thing.

it has been $131.99 for almost a year now price does not change, i want to purchase it but i do not think it is worth $131.99  i was hoping it would have dropped but nothing , so i will do with out.

  13. 25 minutes ago, Xaa said:

Good catch.  it was 12.99 on my Icon sailing too.  Went ahead and grabbed it.   Still $31 on my other sailing.  I'm thinking this is a mistake they made.

i am wondering why they pic and choose on a coffee card it seems it should be pretty standard across the board on that one .

Sooooo $43.99 for our April Icon. I bought it BUT if the previous sailings say it’s Jersey Shore and nothing but 18-25 year olds….I’ll be cancelling. Figure it’s a one and done because my October Utopia has it for $70.99.

It’s like now they’re trying to get the Virgin passengers. How about catering to the passengers that made you who you are? The ones who put on damn masks and sailed your ships when you were sinking and still sinking in debt.

Be very careful Royal because a lot of people who swore they were “Loyal to Royal” are starting to raise eyebrows and considering the competitors who will match status.

    Ditto !

Like others, we’ve used Air2Sea when flying internationally.  Real or imagined, we feel a sense of security doing so.

Air2Sea was by far the cheapest for our upcoming flights to/from Italy.  They’ve also been on top of any changes that have been made by the airlines since we booked, too.   Lufthansa changed our return flight and Air2Sea was able to get us on a different flight that gets us home when we need to be.

I agree the sense of security is  what is attracting me !

We use A2S when traveling out of the US.  Otherwise we usually fly SWA since they have so many flights from BWI (our home airport) to Florida and the Caribbean.  Here's the one bad thing about A2S: We wanted to make a slight change (to get a shorter connection) on an outbound flight but leave the return alone.  The only thing A2S could do was to rebook everything so we had to leave it alone.  On the positive side (as another poster mentioned), if there's a problem they will rebook you.  On our recent flight to Vancouver, Air Canada screwed us (long story) and at around 2am, A2S was able to rebook us on another airline.  Basically, A2S saved the day!
