  1. This "foam fad" has long passed it prime....time for something new and fresh. You listening RCL chefs?
  2. Wow...that's going to be one expensive salad bar....vbg.
  3. Yes, it is walkable...but just remember that you are going to walk UP HILL all the way to San Felipe del Morro Fortress, the premiere fort. The free trolley will take you there and drop you off at the entrance. The return "walk" will be 1.3 miles. Fortunately, you will be passing many restaurants and shops to rest for a spell. Map shows at this link. http://tinyurl.com/hf6hyp2
  4. Thanks for the info...doesn't sound it is worth the bother.
  5. I am familiar with the wine carry on rules.....but what if I don't "carry on" in FLL but I buy wine in a San Juan or St. Martin........would that bottle be a "legal" carry on to consume in my cabin? San Juan is a US property so Customs wouldn't be an issue.....am I correct?
  6. Highly recommend Mr. Sancho's. We were treated like royalty....they went out of their way to make our day visit a treat. The only thing I didn't like (which would be happen at any beach serving food) was the birds that were quite irritating. Pay balance at the entrance....they have all the records right there for your convenience.
  7. Miss Candie....my "home phone" is the number that is listed in a Phone Book. I know not many people even know what a phone book is but they are still available.....from the phone company. I have my home phone number forwarded to my cell phone so if anyone should call my HOUSE home phone, the call is forwarded to my cell phone and they would never know that I am not at home...with my home phone number ringing.
  8. Your personal TA should be just like your personal banker...someone you can sit down with face to face. I have been stranded twice by an "internet" TA. I believe most of them could care less about following up on a travel crisis as we experienced stranded at FLL.
  9. I have my "home phone" always forwarded to my cell.....then if someone called the house number, I can answer and they would never know I am not at home.
  10. Without realizing it, we divulge more information on social media than we think. Tell the world about your cruise when you return....not before you leave.
  11. A "bus seat"....no private accommodations will be 100 buck per person via Amtrak....and a 24 hours in a "bus seat" will be quite uncomfortable. A compartment will be 300 pp and you will still be 24 hours from your destination. Driving your personal vehicle will be 50 bucks in gas...overnight in a motel....parking in MIA probably will add 100 bucks.. Train travel sounds SO GLAMOROUS.....but you need to rethink your travel plans.
  12. One night at the Embassy is about half the price of my cruise! Much better FLL choices at half the price. YMMV.
  13. Price drops are like excess inventory at a grocery store. Too much...put it on sale. Unfortunately, my category is always sold out so there never is a price drop. Just checked 02/18 booking and all the cabins are sold....so there will be no reason to ever check on that again for a drop in price!
  14. After working on NCL...I know crew quarters are under the water line. Probably mechanical and storage areas.
  15. Is it worth it.....is up to you and/or your wife. She probably believes that she is worth it. Some wear Rolex...some wear Timex. As for the 18% mandatory tip....that sounds reasonable. Let us know if you try or pass but it sounds like a very temporary fix for sagging skin. Gravity always wins...vbg.
  16. A NYE B&B will probably be very difficult even at seven months out. Try airbnb.com or vrbo.com Good luck!
  17. I have a small Samsung point and shoot camera.....and with some practice, I have found it takes some great pictures. Moral of the story....never buy a camera that you couldn't "afford" to loose...drop in the drink or have stolen. My one suggestion that I have learned over my travels is to take a half dozen pop out storage so you don't loose your entire trip if you should lose or damage your camera. Removable storage is so inexpensive today it is great insurance to have a new "memory card/storage" for each day of your trip.
  18. There is NO WAY to "reprice" when your category is sold out. It is pure economics....a product price is dropped when the product does not sell. The best choices are always sold at the earliest price. Everybody else will be SOL.
  19. I don't believe AMEX sells "travelers checks" any longer....they offer prepaid debit cards. Nice idea. As for me, I take $100 in fives and $50 in ones. That leaves me with any combination of tipping money that I might need. Credit and debit cards are so convenient to use and I feel safe with any purchase I might choose to make. Even vendors at the markets are taking Square now.
  20. My "island jewelry purchase" limit has been $300...and no more. I feel I can lose that much money and not be to upset. That being said, I purchased a .75ct Tanzanite stone at DI for $275. Since it was a loose stone, I had them set it while I visited Belize. I received a "certificate of value" that was included with the purchase. I was satisfied. When I returned home, I decided to do some eBay browsing. I found a dealer in New York who was offering a 1.13 ct Tanzanite for auction. They also were a very reputable dealer who had VERY high (99.9%) eBay ratings with their customers. I made a bid of $20....yes, TWENTY bucks and won the auction. They delivered the stone and it was exactly as described and included the certificate of authenticity. Both stones look very good with one with a slightly bluer in color. Now comes the two way street.....I either got the DEAL of the century at eBay or I really got screwed royally with DI. I am not doing any further investigations in this....sometimes not knowing let's you sleep better.
  21. Pack in my pill caddy with my CPAP machine....never been questioned about anything. BTW....carry your pills WITH you! Don't want those to get "lost".
  22. Deepest condolences to fellow passengers. The elder passengers have to suffer the most and they are the most unlikely people to search.
  23. I would suggest that you shop with your local jeweler that you have an established pattern of trust. Buy your wife something very nice and give it to her on your first night at sea. You know that you are purchased something that she will love and you can trust your purchase will be wise and secure.
  24. YMMV......my stock investments in the "cruise" industry show a 37.875% increase. I couldn't be happier.
