Unrest in Baja California
Gadget Hackwrench replied to TheRick's topic in Royal Caribbean News and Rumors
Here is a very detailed article about the status of this port. https://www.cruiselawnews.com/2022/08/articles/crime/carnival-and-royal-caribbean-suspend-cruises-to-ensenada-due-to-threats-and-violence-by-mexican-drug-cartel/ -

Is this departure normal?
Gadget Hackwrench replied to steverk's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
I know that US based nuclear submarines do patrol the waters to watch over the cruise ship routes, so perhaps your escort was closer than you thought. -
Just make sure you don't schedule it for a Sunday!

You will find that on many Royal Caribbean ships there are a handful of rooms in the lower categories such as Interior, Oceanview, and Balcony that are designed for larger families. On Enchantment of the Seas out of Baltimore for instance this one accommodates up to 6 people in one room. (shown as Spacious Ocean View Accessible below) Royal Caribbean maintains deck plans of their ships so you can explore and find the right rooms for you prior to booking.

Royalup. Is it possible to get a real deal.
Gadget Hackwrench replied to Batman362's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
I choose to pick signup times for cruises that grant me better deals for rooms rather than rely on the Royal Up program for an upgrade. One of the major dangers is the bidding from a non-suite to a suite class because you won't earn that extra point per day through the bidding program. If you want to move up quicker in status avoid the Royal Up program. Also bidding wars often work against the bidder, as Royal Caribbean will accept the highest bids of course which eliminates any deep discounts if you lowball the bid. Sure, some cruise itineraries and timing may work in your favor but I believe there won't be that many cases as more and more people return to cruising, including the unvaccinated. -
http://coronavirus.bernews.com/minister-unvaccinated-travelers-to-be-allowed/ The government of Bermuda announced this policy change effective August 22nd for people not vaccinated on cruise ships. Please understand this will impact Travel Authorization documents for entry! This is the important part here “Unvaccinated travellers with a TA submitted before August 22 but TA not yet approved will be held to the new requirements."

Grandeur/Enchantment vs Rhapsody/Vision
Gadget Hackwrench replied to Joe01's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
I have sailed on Enchantment of the Seas before in 2014 and will be again in a few weeks. There has actually been another refurbishment of the ship since that time, happening in 2017 when Oasis class upgrades were introduced. As a result in many respects these ships closely resemble the Oasis class. This is not to be confused with the major overhaul in the 2000s that included the addition of a poolside movie screen, bungee trampolines and extra cabins. -
I am not going to issue political statements in this forum, but there is evidence in many news stories showing that many rivers in Europe and the United States are at lower levels than acceptable for trade and tourism. Many ship companies such as Viking rely heavily on river cruising for survival. There have been canceled river cruises and others have had to bus people between certain ports due to lower than acceptable water levels. While I have no reason to believe this will significantly impact ocean bound cruises ability to sail, I do wonder if Royal Caribbean will experience a growing trend of people switching from canceled river cruises to ocean bound vessels. I wonder if out community believes this will lead to the construction of more ocean ships or other impacts on the industry if weather patterns continue for the foreseeable future? Will cruise ship occupancy rates climb significantly and what will the impacts be on frequent cruisers? What are your thoughts?

recent coffee card experiences
Gadget Hackwrench replied to need2cruz's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
I found this article on the website that has a detailed explanation of how the system works but also unfortunately confirms that there is still confusion in practice on how extra shots are accounted for as part of the program https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2022/06/24/guide-royal-caribbeans-coffee-card-package -
AT&T Cruise package
Gadget Hackwrench replied to Bradinmississippi's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
This program seems to apply to many different cruise companies. While Royal Caribbean currently has a good value match for internet speeds, and this hopefully will improve exponentially through the test pilot with Elon Musk's Starlink, there are other cruise lines where it could save you money. I try to personally disconnect as much as possible while on vacation choosing to turn my cell phone to airplane mode and then re-enabling WIFI so I can use their great RC application onboard without hidden fees from my cellphone provider. Try to purchase a VOOM bundled with another service that you might want or on sale before the cruise begins. Also check to see if your loyalty status gets you free VOOM onboard. -
https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/questions/what-are-the-benefits-of-the-key-program I was looking at the Key program through the above link, and of course I also look at the fine print. Restrictions and small details can be quite important. I noticed on this frequently asked question guide on the main website that several of the benefits have asterisks after them that match explanations below. However the one with *** has no corresponding answer below it. Hopefully one of the staff there can fix this so I can see the missing restriction and so that others viewing this webpage can easily access it there.

After reading the posts in this topic, I am fortunate to have booked a cruise terminal within driving distance from my home. I imagine the cruise ship companies are as frustrated as the passengers when they don't arrive on time for boarding or the baggage handlers lose their luggage. I wish all of you the best of fortune starting your vacations without incident.

Guess what date Testing will be dropped...
Gadget Hackwrench replied to djandyb's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
I truly believe testing itself will not disappear for a very long time because it is not only the country of origin that matters for testing. There are so many countries around the world that Royal Caribbean travels to that have different requirements, with Bermuda being a notable example for having a test requirement. It will be a slow and drawn out process of a gradual lowering of testing requirements that may take years to fully resolve. And there is no guarantee that if cases rise again in the country of origin or the destination that testing requirements will not be reimposed on cruisers.
