  1. For this reason, I now avoid doing a L&S after the final payment date. Be careful if you have a refundable cruise that you are doing a L&S on. I didn't notice that it got lifted and shifted into a nonrefundable cruise. They did apologize for the error however, they couldn't change it. They could only assure me that it was "documented" in the system that it was refundable.
  2. I wonder when my FCC will actually expire. It would seem that IF I don't have any cruise to apply it to pretty soon it might go poof and disappear. I don't see that they have extended expiration dates on FCCs. Or maybe they have ... I don't know for sure.
  3. But I want to price protect it because I think the Alaska cruise in 2022 will be $2,000 more that the one I currently have. My FCC is only $2,000 so that will only pay for the price increase.
  4. Just a hypothetical question but I suspect it is a real world dilemma. What if for instance you have a FCC applied to an Alaska cruise in August 2021. It doesn't seem like I can L&S that cruise to 2022 because L&S doesn't seem like it has been extended. However, it would seem like I could cancel the 2021 Alaska cruise, get the FCC reissued, and then reapply the FCC to the 2022 Alaska cruise. But, I would have to do this before January 31, 2021. This is just too confusing!
  5. That constitution does have a way of getting in the way of all the power players. Same goes for all the experts and their expert ideas.
  6. How messed up is it in Canada? It would be hard for me to believe it is more messed up than here in the US. However, the US doesn't seem quite as bad as places in Europe (UK?). Except for the politics of it all, it seems the US isn't doing that badly. An election year made covid much worse. Take note that Iowa is a rural state and we haven't had too many restrictions placed on us. I expect to be vaccinated this spring ... June at the latest. We have problems but they don't seem overwhelming. I live in a town with a large university medical center with close to 1,000 beds. The hospital basically emptied out in the beginning in anticipation of a huge influx of covid patients. The hospital lost a lot of money while being empty and had to open back up. I believe that the worst day was when 10% of the hospital beds were occupied with covid patients.
  7. Wow ... I don't think there are any state to state restrictions here. New York didn't care for it originally when other states were going to ban people from New York. When things got under control in New York, I think Cuomo in his infinite wisdom was going to ban 30 or so states from coming to New York. As far as I know, everyone ditched that idea.
  8. Even it everyone onboard is vaccinated and only Canadians are allowed on or off the ship? I bet the control at a cruise terminal possibly could far exceed that which happens in airports. It isn't just being on the plane, it is tens of thousands of people arriving and departing at airports. Canada's government needs to address this and so does the CDC. If we are required to wait until herd immunity is achieved through vaccination or otherwise... I think that will take a very long time and quite possibly, never in my remaining lifetime.
  9. I just had an idea. Perhaps Royal could offer vaccinations to people 30 days or more before a cruise. I think people should get them done locally or in Florida or Seattle. For the first vaccination it wouldn't matter where it was done. The second one could be in Florida or Seattle prior to the cruise. That would give Royal a degree of control assuming the CDC allows cruising again ... no vaccination ... no cruise. As far as stopping in a distant foreign port ... why can't Canadians be allowed to originate a cruise from the US or Victoria, Canada. It may require two stops in Victoria to pick up and drop off the Canadians. Other nationalities could be required to stay onboard. To my knowledge Canadians are allowed to fly out of Canada and return. They might need to quarantine upon returning but still. I bet Canada must accept their own citizens regardless of the mode of transportation. Something needs to get worked out ... my Alaska cruise is August 30th.
  10. I needed to double-check but Port Canaveral it is on October 24th to 31st 2021 on Allure. Looks like Nov 8th is the first one out of Port Everglades.
  11. I'm not sure there is any normal base price. I just try to remember whether or not it is a normal sale price or a better than normal sale price.
  12. I'm not at all against cruising with the new restrictions. I'm looking forward to my first cruise back on Quantum which WILL be in August for an Alaskan cruise. I'm trying to stay positive and I hope to be vaccinated by then. My only concern is what happens if only ONE person tests positive after boarding the ship. I'm sure I would continue to to abide by the restrictions but confining EVERYONE to their stateroom seems a bit extreme unless it is temporary precaution. I have a suite booked so it wouldn't be too bad ... I guess. I could still enjoy the Alaskan scenery from the balcony! I would like to get out of the stateroom eventually though. Great video ... I now have a better idea about what to expect in August. I'm looking forward to the cruise in August and I'm starting to believe it will actually happen.
  13. I'm not sure how it works in the Europe. Here, there isn't any need to cancel your existing reservation and receive a FCC and then make a new reservation. Several times I have kept the same reservation number and "rescheduled" the cruise to a future cruise. It doesn't even need to be a future cruise. You just say you want to do another cruise instead of the cruise you currently have. Currently, the change fees are waived with cruise with confidence. I do this before the final payment date so I don't pay any additional money. There is no price protection like a L&S. Your current deposit is used for the new cruise but the reservation number stays the same. You can do this even if you booked nonrefundable. If you booked refundable, you can always do this without a change fee anytime before the final payment date. You can also cancel your cruise and receive a FCC but I takes awhile. You can use the FCC for the deposit under the current rules.
  14. We are pleased with the Allure TA in 2022 but we really wanted to visit Normandy France. The biggest appeal of the Allure TA in 2022 was that all five European stops are in Spain. We have been to Barcelona and we want to go back there. Because of all the Covid rules, we are thinking the fewer countries we visit the better. The added benefit was an attractive price. Except for the long stretch of sea days we are happy. Hopefully, everyone allowed onboard when we depart Florida will be vaccinated by then. There shouldn't be any worries until we reach Spain. If all goes well, we can still visit Normandy. The UK can wait and we would still like to visit. The Brexit issue should be more clear by 2023. We hope everyone will adapt to the new normal whatever that will be.
  15. We were tempted on the 125% FCC option but we already have one large FCC. We have applied it to a future anniversary suite which will be a first for us so that's exciting. The suite is a first not the anniversary!
  16. We wanted to end up in the UK. For some reason the the Anthem TA in April 2022 wasn't released. Any idea why that was? It might be released now but haven't checked recently. We ended up rescheduling on Allure in April 2022 and we will focus on Spain. Price was much better on the Allure TA without a L&S --- problem solved. We would have liked Odyssey but I think she was gong to Rome. We have been on a Mediterranean cruise already but we might do it again someday.
  17. Our April 2020 TransAtlantic was canceled and moved to April 2021. I'm just now finishing up the undoing of the plans we had for 2020. I didn't even start making plans for our April 2021 TransAtlantic so there's nothing to undo. The 2021 cruise had a stop in Canada and that seems unlikely. The final destination was the UK and currently that seems downright dismal. We will try again April 2022 on Allure. The only stops besides Nassau are in Spain. I'm somewhat more optimistic for 2022 and hopefully most people will be vaccinated by then.
  18. Am I correct in believing that I can "reschedule" a cruise to any date in the future and keep the existing reservation number without incurring a change fee. My final payment date is getting closer and I simply want to change the date. I just want to use the same deposit and move it forward. I don't want to cancel my existing cruise and receive a FCC. I don't want to pay the full amount due hoping that Royal cancels the cruise so I get a refund. I don't want to L&S the cruise to a year in the future with the price protection. All I want to do is reschedule the cruise to an entirely different cruise about 6 months from now. I should be able to use the same deposit and reservation number...right? Also, I don't think there will be any change fees ... is this correct? I would just need to have the cruise repriced to the prevailing rate for the cruise I choose and use the same deposit. Thanks.
  19. I have wondered about what would happen if a person didn't pay the total amount due on the final payment date. I assumed you would potentially lose your deposit and forfeit your reservation for the cruise. Then perhaps Royal could cancel the cruise and you wouldn't even get a FCC let alone a refund. I still think the easiest thing to do is reschedule the cruise to a date in the future. Under the cruise with confidence provisions you shouldn't have to pay any change fees. No need for a FCC either.
  20. Another option that I didn't understand completely is to keep the same reservation number and "reschedule" the cruise to another cruise sometime in the future. This isn't a L&S. I just "rescheduled" our 2021 cruise to a totally different cruise in 2022 which we liked equally well. We didn't need a new deposit. No FCC needed to be issued and reapplied. It was a nonrefundable cruise which stayed nonrefundable in 2022 but it was a totally different cruise. No change fee was incurred. With any luck you might find a less expensive cruise. The final payment date was pushed well into the future. There was no price protection but the new cruise at current prices was $600 less than the old cruise! We took a small downgrade in staterooms but we like Central Park Balcony rooms better than the Ocean View Balcony rooms anyway. We are now on an Allure 14-day TransAtlantic in 2022 as compared to an Anthem 12-Day TransAtlantic in 2021.
  21. I thought it was something I said and was hoping it was true! I would gladly do a L&S to 2022 if there was another option.
  22. Realistically, I don't see any reason why Royal doesn't cancel this cruise NOW. Then I can decide what do to about a FCC, refund or L&S. If Royal waits until after the final payment date to cancel this cruise --- I'll be royally ... "upset". I wonder if the Odyssey TA for April 23, 2022 to Rome will be a viable L&S option??
  23. Yes ... it would be nice to get a longer time frame to use the cruise credit. I can't fathom what happens if RCL goes bankrupt. RCL probably won't cease to exist but I can easily imagine a scenario where my FCC will cease to exist! Worst of all , in this covid environment, I might cease to exist. ?
  24. It might work IF Royal cancels the cruise AND Royal cancels the cruise before the final payment date. It is like a "game of chicken" when it gets close to the final payment date if you have to pay more cash and decide later that YOU want to cancel.
