LizzyBee23 reacted to smokeybandit in Health protocols for toddlers
If your toddler doesn't wear a mask, no one will say anything.

I'm in the same boat as the OP and feel like $98 pp/day is excessive. Even if you assume that individual alcoholic drink prices increase from $13 to $15, that requires over 6 drinks per day to break even.

I hope that this leads to allowing crew who want to do so to remove their masks on board.

What has happened in previous cases is that the CDC will appeal but drop the order. The entire case will be set aside as moot because there is no longer an order in place. That way the government ends the order without agreeing that weren't allowed to make it in the first place.

Biggest takeaway is that once again, the judge ruled that the CDC exceeded its authority just as it did with the conditional sail order. These types of rulings make it harder for the CDC to implement future restrictions on cruising.

I could be very wrong here. But, I think that this judgement by the court in Florida is going to be allowed to quietly go unchallenged. It will be May soon, when the mandate was scheduled to go away or renewed anyway. So, why fight this unpopular mandate. The judge can be blamed.

I read, a few weeks ago, that the flight attendants’ union was pushing to keep the mask mandate. Not sure if that has changed or if the corporate wonks and the flight attendants are in conflict. I sure hope this ruling is upheld. Time for this nonsense to go away.

The "union" was. The actual flight attendants and pilots want it gone. Corporate wants it gone.

Isn't the mask mandate essentially the stick the CDC was using to incentivize participation in the modified CSO? Not saying cruise lines don't see the benefit in doing so anyway, but removing the penalty may add flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances without a layer of bureaucracy. It could be the first domino to fall in terms of overturning a vaccine mandate (or at least allowing more flexibility for waivers).

From the CNN article: Mizelle suggested that the government's implementation of the mandate -- in which non-complying travelers are "forcibly removed from their airplane seats, denied board at the bus steps, and turned away at the train station doors" -- was akin to "detention and quarantine," which are not contemplated in the section of the law in question, she said. "As a result, the Mask Mandate is best understood not as sanitation, but as an exercise of the CDC's power to conditionally release individuals to travel despite concerns that they may spread a communicable disease (and to detain or partially quarantine those who refuse)," she wrote. Not familiar with the legal arguments being made, but that's an interesting interpretation. Also, I second this week will be interesting in the skies. Have about 4 weeks to get it figured out before we take our turn, so hoping for common sense to prevail. -

Not a good week to be a flight attendant... "A federal judge says I don't need no mask".

The federal appeals court this would go to is, without getting into politics on this board, quite favorable to confirm the ruling instead of staying it.

Same re: flying... And it's a close number two on my list of worries about the trip (right after testing). It's a long flight for us from the southeast, with a layover in Chicago. We gave ourselves an extra day, but I'm beyond worried we'll end up in one of the airport related quagmires that seem to have plagued the northeast at random (Chicago has a lot more in common with Philly than other Midwestern cities, don't @ me). Wishing we had chosen the flight that connected in SLC.

I'm guessing they haven't decided on the 2023 pricing for the beverage and dining packages yet.
I can book my excursions for January 2023 on Freedom of the Seas and February 2023 on Odyssey of the Seas, but both of these have nothing listed for drinks, dining, or spa treatments listed yet. I even have some Alaska excursions showing up for a August 2023 cruise on Quantum.

LizzyBee23 reacted to Jkaczano in Are passports required? What are your experiences with it?
Oasis June 10th ports of call are Port Canaveral, Nassau, and Perfect Day. If there was ever a itinerary where I would feel comfortable with just a birth certificate, that would be it. My husband, kids, and I have passports, but my mother in law did this itinerary on Oasis in September 2021 and Anthem in March 2022 both out of NJ with just her birth certificate and license and had no problem.

LizzyBee23 got a reaction from SpeedNoodles in Seattle Hotel and transportation recommendations
We're doing something close to what Jay said: private shuttle (through Capital Aeroporter) to downtown... $70 w/ tip included. Doing a few days there before the cruise. Our hotel does a shuttle to the port. After the cruise, we'll get a Lyft to our hotel at SeaTac and then take the hotel's shuttle to the airport the next morning.
When it was just us, we took the light rail line to and from downtown. Kids and kid accessories made that kind of unattractive this time around.

LizzyBee23 reacted to smokeybandit in Any News on Protocols?
I'm willing to bet the number of people who would sail if protocols were done away with is higher than the ones that would stop sailing.
