  1. You're not far. We are in-between Providence and Worcester. Did you say you ran a Pats podcast? I listen to them all...
  2. Really? Nice. I grew up in RI and have been to Newport plenty. We booked the Anthem for March. I checked out all of next year's NJ cruises for Adventure, Empress, & Oasis. They all are temping, but my wife works at RISD and it turns out the March date was best for us. I have a friend who just got off the Empress last Saturday (6N) and really liked it. No DL like @twangstersaid, but overall they had fun. Also, no adult solarium, which for us is a pretty big deal. Would love to do Oasis again. We like the bigger ships too. Not sure about Adventure, but we know we like Anthem. Good luck with your choice...
  3. This is really disappointing if true fleet wide. We are 3 cruises away from D+ and I have been pushing a bit to get there. For us, that is really the only additional D+ perk that has value... and now it is gone... ?
  4. I have never heard of this before, but it sounds like a great deal. Yeah, maybe it is just a European thing. I bet customs is an issue in the US.
  5. NO, not true now. Anthem now uses the Royal app.
  6. I tried this too. Spent a bit of time on this at home and then got to our Anthem cruise and they took another photo. I am not sure there is any real value to pre-upoad your pic since it does seem like they are not checking for existing pictures. Like little robots, they just go ahead and take the normal port check-in photo.
  7. We were using a PDP-8 in production when DEC came in an bought it back to put it in their museum! Everyone has reported randomness in the points system. I'll guess they spin a modified roulette wheel once per cruise and your points get assigned accordingly - no where near as logical as a TRS-80. Maybe some had a program running on their HP-41C like the real old days...
  8. OK, yeah not what I though, but still great to know...
  9. Wow, I never knew this. At any bar? Thanks for the tip!
  10. Yes, that is correct. You just need to follow along and "do your job"!
  11. @romanticheart Hi and welcome to the RCB forums! I understand your curiosity. I too would like to know what I need to do get the free offers. I can certainly invest an hour into the casino. BUT, of course the question is how to do that? Where to spend my time and how much will it cost me. I too had heard you are better off with the slot machines. Seems like in your case that wasn't necessary. Anyone? What gives?
  12. Yes, that's my YOLO booking week. You are considering many factors, but wow, that's a great price. Me personally I would stay put with it. If you need your AMPed ship fix is there anyway to squeeze in another cruise next year? WIll any of the AMPed ships be in Europe when you plan to be there?
  13. I think those same products should be offered in both the store and the cruise planner. That would certainly make it easier for us all. I think I remember that they used to do this, or somehow they were linked together...
  14. @Grass Clippings and @MathiaasO Hi and welcome to the RCB forums! Here is the RCL policy: https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/questions/food-drink-onboard-policy Here is the RCB news & comments: https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2018/08/28/royal-caribbean-now-allowing-guests-bring-non-alcoholic-beverages-onboard Yes, 12 cans/bottles/cartons (17oz) and 2 wine bottles (750ml) per stateroom. There may be a corkage fee for the wine, but you shouldn't have a problem drinking your non-alcoholic drinks anywhere.
  15. Oops, sorry... And now back to our regularly scheduled programming
  16. "Never Fear... Underdog is here !"
  17. @lindal Hi and welcome to the RCB forums! Yes podcast 284 - nice comment...
  18. Yes, certainly they have never cruised, are ignorant to cruising, and will probably never be talked into cruising. They are just plain wrong and you know it. So let them have their opinions and have fun with it. Lead by example if they are friends and family. Keep letting them know how much fun you had on your cruises and just maybe you will turn them!
  19. Whoa Mr. Peabody - set the waaaayyyy back machine to the year 2019... Oops, thanks for finding that! Duh, I was't really thinking was I? I just fixed it - thanks!
  20. Yeah, you will need it to get on the ship. Once on you can probably lock it in your safe. Usually Labadee and Coco Cay don't require passports to get back on the ship - just your sea pass.
  21. Anthem of the Seas - March 8, 2020 ! Yippee,.. first time going to the new "Perfect Day" at Coco Cay...
  22. So if you cancel and re-book would you be moving from 2020 to 2021. I am sure that would be a big consideration for you. Curious as to why you chose August 21? Based on recommendations we received the beginning of July offers the possibility of the best weather. We were actually in Juno on the 4th once and were able to walk off the ship and see the parade right in front of us. It was awesome, complete with native dress. The ships that I have sailed have been smaller than the Ovation for sure. But I must say I love it's sister Anthem. I would bet the covered Solarium would provide a lot of security on an Alaska cruise. We cruised from Seattle once and Vancouver once. I see your point about Vancouver if all other things you consider are equal. What I wonder is will you be able to find that same deal again? For me the cost is important, I would love the Ovation, but also wonder about getting into tight spaces like Hubbard Glacier or Misty Fjords (sorry, I did not check your itinerary, but maybe you can share it). Let us know what you are thinking...
  23. @Coronadogal Hi and welcome to the RCB forums! Congrats on being just one cruise away from Diamond. I have good friends on the Empress this week and can't wait to see what they have to say about her. Based on what @twangster has to say, I wish we had her booked. We almost did for next spring, but the dates didn't quite work for my wife's job at RISD...
  24. Thanks, but I think this will be tricky for us. This is our BOA/RCL credit card free cruise. Moving ships might be a problem for us. We had to book directly with RCL and the other couples used their own TAs. I'll check it out but may give up on switching pretty quick. ?
  25. OH NO !!! Please let this not be true ! We have four couples booked on Harmony for Nov 1 2020. My wife is not going to like this when I tell her. Seriously, why in the world would they do that? What could they possibly be thinking? This is just awful news for us as we too spend a lot of free time in the solarium...
