  1. If you need to get to the airport, there are buses that go between Piazella Roma and the airport. An alternative would be the Alilaguna water bus to the airport, but that is a lot longer. I might have missed it, are you staying in Venice before your cruise or arriving the day of?
  2. Since the restart, we've checked in at our muster station when we board, that way it's all taken care of before we start doing anything else. The muster check in is an ongoing process throughout the afternoon for all guests assigned to the muster station, not just a one time deal. The muster consists of watching the video on the app, then going to the muster station to check in with the crew assigned there. They will ask if you watched the video. If you haven't, they will give a demonstration of donning the life jacket and go over a few other things. If you have watched the video, they will ask if you have any questions. Either way, you'll check in with the crew and be on your way quickly.
  3. One thing to note..that style of two prong adapter doesn’t have a grounding path. The two prongs are for hot and neutral, so even though a three prong grounded US plug will fit, it’s not truly grounded. Also, it’s not a voltage converter, just an adapter. US household electricity is 120v 60 hz while most of Europe is 250v 50 hz. Most charging bricks nowadays will be fine because they are multi voltage. Look at the fine print on them for 100-250v. My Apple chargers all say this as well as my battery banks and electric razor. All that technical mumbo jumbo being said, that’s one of two adapters we’re bringing with us to Italy so we can charge our phones and iPads.
  4. Royal wouldn’t let my 19 year old son board alone when he joined me on Adventure for the second half of a back to back I did in 2019. I had to leave the ship and escort him back on. To be fair, they did let us get back on immediately. Even trying the logic of “he can enlist in the navy without me and go on one of their ships” didn’t work.
  5. We’ll be getting off as you get on. We’re boarding the 17th.
  6. We’re taking our middle son and his family on a cruise out of Cape Liberty in February 2024. There will be four adults and two young children, one just under a year and the other just under three. We’re doing some preliminary research on transportation since there we’d like to travel together, and car seats will be needed for the two girls. We are curious if anyone has used, or is familiar with a car service that we could use to go from our hotel by Newark International Airport to the port and back. Additionally, how have those of you who have traveled with young children dealt with the car seat issue? We are driving down from Maine and Mass in two vehicles, so we will have car seats with us. Do people bring the seats with them to the ship? An idea we have been floating is to park one car at the hotel (we have booked an extended parking package) and the other at the port, shuttling everyone from the hotel to the port in the one we leave at the port…..but this seems like a lot of extra work as well as being more expensive than the park and stay package at the hotel. Thanks.
  7. My last name has an apostrophe and it regularly gets screwed up as it relates to my C&A number. It’s not just Royal either…..a Crown and Anchor misspelling is much better than most airline’s software not recognizing apostrophes but having one on my passport and PreCheck. You know that part about “Your ticketed name must exactly match what’s on your passport”….mine rarely does, but I’ve learned things work out. Worst case is he can go see the Loyalty Ambassador onboard. They’ll take care of his status and he’ll be all set. It’s way easier to fix things in person. I loathe talking on the on the phone anyway.
  8. We used Air2Sea for flights to/from Italy this coming October. We are flying into Venice for the cruise and flying back to the States from Rome after the cruise. The total cost of all our flights through Air2Sea was cheaper than just Rome to Boston was when we looked at booking through airlines. We’re flying in Economy. I have no idea about the other classes
  9. Grazie mille! The internet really has changed traveling….Google maps and watching people’s experiences really are game changers.
  10. Our cruise on Explorer from Ravenna (Venice) is Oct 22-29, so we haven't done this, but here's our plan. We are arriving in at Marco Polo Airport at 1830 on October 19, staying two nights in Venice, then taking the train to Ravenna and staying for one night. Taking the train from Venice to Ravenna does require a change in either Bologna or Ferarra. From looking at the Trenitalia website, I've seen travel times ranging from just over two hours to just over three hours depending on whether or not you take the high speed train for your first leg. Our B&B host in Ravenna has reserved a ride to the port for us at 1100 on embarkation day. He has told us that taxis are not plentiful in Ravenna, and our online research seems to validate this information. The roll call thread for our cruise over on CC is full of talk about the Royal Caribbean shuttle from Venice to Ravenna, as well as talk about a Royal Caribbean shuttle from the Ravenna train station to the port. The bottom line seems to be that if you want the shuttle from Royal, call them (or go through your travel agent).
  11. Oh In regards to “Kids sail free”, it’s not an ongoing thing, just a promotion that runs sort of frequently.
  12. We are taking our two granddaughters (and our son + dil) on a cruise in February 2024. The two girls will be 1 and 3. We are paying for them just like they were full grown adults. We had to get a cabin that is made for four. Im sure more articulate people than me will explain in detail, but it’s normal.
  13. Lol Social media: Making everyone’s personal opinion feel relevant to individual echo chambers for a couple decades….and now it’s become “newsworthy”. In other news, different people like different things. I like broccoli. Fight me
  14. I prefer it on ships that have Studio B as opposed to 270 but ymmv I’ve never been to one on an Oasis class nor on a ship smaller than Voyager class. I’m more of an observer than a participant, but pre-pandemic, our 19 year old was a team co-captain on our Adventure sailing. He had a blast.
  15. While we haven’t done any Med excursions yet, we have done third party ones in the Caribbean. Each time, we’ve been asked what ship we were on and when the all aboard time was.
  16. How old? ATV tours are always fun but there's a minimum age of 16 to drive I believe. A lot of places have two person ones if needed or desired.
  17. Venice and Porto Corsini really aren’t all that close. There may be a ferry service that stops in Ravenna, but it would be a long trip. I suspect regular water taxis won’t go that far from Venice….not to mention the fact that the cost of one from the airport to city center is €100+ and Ravenna is a lot farther than the airport.
  18. Subliminal messaging to convince people how environmentally friendly this ship is? After all, pictures of oil-covered goslings and ducklings are used when oil spills happen.
  19. So my wife said to me, "There's a lot of time between our cruise in February and October of next year. Maybe we should see what kind of prices we can find on something from Cape Liberty." Okay, twist my arm if you must. This will be our first time in Bermuda. The allure of Cape Liberty for us is the 5-6 hour drive compared to paying for flights that cost more than the cruise itself. We're just staying in an Interior Guarantee. We genuinely don't care where sleep.
  20. Protip: If there is no way you could possibly be pregnant, but you accidentally answer "Yes" to the question, you can correct it at the port.
  21. I agree. My international travels (other than Canada) were while I was active duty. I never got a passport until we started needing one to get back in the US from Canada (a post 9-11 development I believe), and then it was just the passport card. I got a passport book prior to our first cruise since we were flying and our state was behind on Real ID licenses (not that in mattered, in hindsight). For years, my wife traveled with her Canadian birth certificate and US residency card until she found out that the cost to get naturalized was going up. She holds dual now and can travel on either a US or Canadian passport. I grew up in a small, isolated Maine/Quebec border town. Crossing the line meant the customs/immigration agent waved as you drove by since you knew each other.
