  1. Did you take the offer? I’ve been reading some posts about damage on clothes.
  2. This is what I did the days before my Mount Liamuiga Volcano Hike on St Kitts. It worked. I got to the top! It was a different story after the hike. It was a pain to go up or down a single flight of stairs.
  3. I checked out the most recently uploaded Cruise Planner from the Ovation and I did not see the Laundry Bag Offer usually offered in middle of the cruise. Any information on this? I don’t want to check any luggage and am trying to fit everything in my carry ons. I’m not a fancy dresser anyway so I’m thinking I will be able to pull this off.
  4. I don't like the taste of Coke (zero sugar) on RCCL ships which is very different from the canned and bottled versions in stores. It's also different from those served from soda fountains on land. I think their syrup is not from the States. I noticed an improvement during my recent sailing on the Mariner but it was still not to my liking. I guess I'm not only a Coca-Cola snob, but I a very picky Coca-Cola snob.
  5. Even the Refreshment Package has gone up to $26 per day. Good thing I purchased it when it was $20 per day.
  6. I’ve done it on most of my sailings. On the Serenade, my work won “best” sushi. They gave me a bottle of Moscato. EDIT: It was on the Majesty
  7. Thanks for all your replies! I promise to be nice to the wait staff, I always am anyway. In fact, my waiter on the Majesty will also be on the Ovation when I sail at the end of the month. He promised he’d make arrangements for him to be my waiter again. Food wastes should not be an issue for me. I belong to the “finish your plate” generation. In the days of my youth, my pastor trained us not to waste food because we need to be good stewards of blessings that come our way.
  8. It’s easier when I cruise with a group. There is a “one up” component to it. But I usually cruise alone and I like being seated by myself. That in itself already draws some attention. ?
  9. Let me begin by saying that I really like eating... A LOT! One of the main draws of cruising for me is the food. My question is how tacky is it to order multiple servings of the food on the menu? How many orders of the cocktail shrimp? The escargot? How many main entree orders fall in embarrassing territory? I thinking you’re getting what I’m driving at. How much is too much? If you were at the table next to mine, how would you feel if I ordered (and ate) A LOT.
  10. Not a restaurant, but a food stall selling deep friend Conch in Nassau just outside the port. I forgot the name of the store but their Conch was so good I’m craving it to this day.
  11. You don’t want them to lose their job but when you know they’re not doing they’re job well, you just want to report their poor performance.
  12. Is the Royal IQ a good replacement for the Cruise Compass?
  13. @SpeedNoodles, there is a package that includes the Mendenhall Glacier in addition to your package. It's roughly $30 more. Do you think it's worth it? Wouldn't the schedule be too crammed with all the activities?
  14. Hi All! Can somebody who has been on an excursion that involves whale watching in Juneau share some feedback about it? What can you say, @SpeedNoodles? May I also ask for suggestions for other shore excursions in Juneau?
  15. @SpeedNoodles, I have hijacked this thread on Lobsters more than enough already. I’ll create a new thread to ask you about the Juneau Whale Watching excursion.
  16. I should have stated early on that I live in Florida and that I was originally from tropical Philippines. I will “calibrate” your suggestions accordingly. ?
  17. Thanks for the reply. This is my first Alaskan cruise. How is the temperature in the enclosed areas of the ship? How about the open areas/upper decks? If I go on the excursions, mostly sightseeing ones, will I need a "parka"?
  18. How formal is formal on Alaskan cruises? I’m sailing on August 30 on Ovation.
  19. I'm a messy eater, so given the choice, I'd prefer they not serve lobster on formal night. How about doing it on "come-as-you-are" night?
  20. Just a second entree? My... this is embarrassing ... my record for lobster tails is 6-7 ... (on lobster nights, that is)
  21. I don't know much about science but I'm thinking that closing all the windows on that deck will affect the aerodynamics of the ship. There is an open area in the middle opening up to the open deck above. If the windows down below are closed, wouldn't the incoming air from the balcony "bounce away" like a stone skipping over the water?
  22. An added detail is the mom’s response to RCCL’s statement that the open window was for ventilation. She said that fans should be used instead of windows. I scratched my head on that one because I personally prefer the salty sea breeze on cruise ships over recirculated stale air.
  23. I got my Platinum pin from the Loyalty Ambassador who was at a desk on Deck 2, yes, Deck 2 of the Mariner. It was an “out of sight” location.
