Ovation passengers caught up in volcanic eruption
PG Cruiser replied to KWofPerth's topic in Royal Caribbean News and Rumors
I lived 5 minutes away from the base. Those three years were tough times for us in Olongapo/Subic. 1990 Earthquake, 1991 Pinatubo Eruption, 1992 Bases Pullout. (Sorry for the hijack) -
HDMI Input on Harmony of the Seas December
PG Cruiser replied to cryptyk's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
If I remember correctly, I tinkered with the stateroom TV on one of the bigger ships. There was a panel covering the inputs on the back of the TV. It looked like it was installed by Royal and not the manufacturer. On the Empress, the TV was pretty standard with the inputs available. Even the remote looked OEM, with the button to change the inputs on it. -
Ovation passengers caught up in volcanic eruption
PG Cruiser replied to KWofPerth's topic in Royal Caribbean News and Rumors
I was in one of the provinces around Mt. Pinatubo in the Philippines when it erupted in 1991. We were at Alert Level 5 when it erupted. According to the news this morning, the volcano in New Zealand was only at Alert Level 2. -
That's what they say "on paper", but I've done six of these classes on six different ships and they always let participants take their sushi with them. On one ship, they even put mine in fancy Japanese-designed to-go boxes which I took to my stateroom. Even if they won't let you take it "to-go", I don't think they will object to your husband eating your finished product after the class.

I don’t see any problem doing this. Some people take the sushi they made with them after the class.

Alaska best ship and best month
PG Cruiser replied to Floating Fun's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
@twangster, what can I expect on a July 31st sailing on the Radiance. I think it’s a southbound itinerary. -

Is that around June 21? -
Alaska best ship and best month
PG Cruiser replied to Floating Fun's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
I've already done Ovation, so I want to try Radiance next time. I want to know what month is the best time to do it. I did not like my "shoulder season" sailing on Ovation. I don't mind the open loop itinerary (Seward/Anchorage & Vancouver) -

Weird Pricing for Dining Packages
PG Cruiser replied to PG Cruiser's topic in Royal Caribbean Dining
Ha ha ha... this is my "make it to Diamond" cruise... I want to be Diamond when we do the Odyssey Inaugural. It's also for my bucket list to sail on all the namesakes of the classes. -
Weird Pricing for Dining Packages

When is your sailing? Mine is May 3-7 -
Alaska best ship and best month
PG Cruiser replied to Floating Fun's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
I'd like to piggy-back on this topic to ask about Alaska sailing date. Is July 31 a good date on the Radiance? I was on the Ovation August 30-Sept 6 this year (2019) and my cruise was a story of missed opportunities. We had to turn back on the way to Dawes Glacier because of the fog. Whales were not playful and active. It was cloudy most of the time. -
I'm looking up package options for an Oasis sailing next year. The price for the 3-night package is $99 vs $96 for the Unlimited Dining Package. Note that the 3-night package even has a sale going for it. This is for a 4-night sailing.

In-room speakers/announcements?
PG Cruiser replied to SpeedNoodles's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
That is why Royal should invest on hardware that will make these in-cabin announcements customizable for guests. A volume control knob (that works) or a dedicated channel on the stateroom TV that overrides audio with the announcement (sort of like the emergency broadcast on local TVs). -
Being a frequent solo cruiser myself, I have always requested for a table to dine by myself. The “solo” tables (actually tables for two) by the windows are positioned closely to each other. I’ve never had an unpleasant experience interacting with those seated next to me.
-
@Islander88, even if Royal gives you a Cruise Compass in advance for your cruise, you will still need to be very flexible with your group’s schedule. They change things on the fly, especially for the shows.

In-room speakers/announcements?
PG Cruiser replied to SpeedNoodles's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
I remember on the Empress just this November I heard an in-cabin announcement at the start of the cruise. I didn’t hear any more for the rest of the cruise. I’m one who wants to hear the announcements from inside the cabin. -
As a solo cruiser I use the extra napkin on my table for the twirling.
-
These days there are two "performances". One is the celebration of Royal's 50th. They do it on the night they serve the 50th cake (I call it the Unicorn Cake). The second is the farewell performance. Get ready to twirl your napkins in the air twice.
-
We have to remember that the family, a day after the incident, has threatened to sue Royal for this "tragic accident". They went on national TV spreading a narrative filled with inaccuracies. So it's not like the family is looking at this as an accident, they're trying to put the blame on Royal. The charges made against the grandfather and the trials that follow will establish whose fault it is.

That's where I got my luggage tags from (eDocs). When @Rob Lovell said he did not get them from the website, I just wanted to know if there was another source for them.

How did you get your Ticket Book?

Can you wear shorts into My Time Dining?
PG Cruiser replied to JRogers's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
A guy was wearing a tank top and shorts in the MDR during My Time Dining... on Formal Night. -
@AJK, if you can, crop the eDoc page with the luggage tag and print 4 tags to a page. Cut to size and insert into your holders. I think we have the same holders.
