  1. @rjac Keeping you and all in our thoughts and prayers. I work in a Catholic school, so we included you all in our morning prayers. ?
  2. Agreed, it does look cold. However, we are stream fishing at several ports in Alaska next July (too) and I suspect it might be a tad chilly, too, but not like rafting.
  3. @twangster When I got to your debark day, I was literally feeling the emotions of getting off the ship. Ugh. Now the withdrawl. Where are we going next, @twangster? Thank you for posting this blog. Still haven't decided what our second trip to Alaska will be. I think some research into Seattle and Vancouver will be the deciding factors. We are taking the train from Vancouver to Seattle for our first Alaska cruise southbound, next summer. I had questioned my move until I read your last two entries. Now I believe I made the right decision for our family (and hoping the Seattle Sounders MLS will be in town that Saturday). Can't wait for your next blog!!
  4. Also, clear cookies, etc. If you use chrome, ctrl-shift-N will give you an incognito web page. Try that, too. Actually, I'd try that first.
  5. @chrisd596 Check out @twangster live blog on his just completed southbound Alaska cruise. There is A LOT of helpful information in his blog and periscopes.
  6. @twangster Because of your wonderful coverage, we are moving our Caribbean Holiday cruise to the following summer and heading back to Alaska in 2020! (Nevermind we haven't embarked on the July 2019 southbound, yet!) Come on 2020 itineraries!
  7. Hi @twangster Sorry to report but the majority of pics in the last non-food pic post didn't "stick". Above is a sample. Very much enjoying your posts today!
  8. @twangster Sounds like you have a good internal compass. Does the moss grow on the north side of the trees in Alaska? It's my first navigation tool (after the sun) in our woods.
  9. @twangster Such great coverage of your trip! THANK YOU!! As you probably know, we are doing this same itinerary (and Goldstar service pre-cruise) in July 2019. So, here are my questions so far: Pre-cruise: 1. Regarding Goldstar service, my receipt shows the train leaves the depot at 6:45 AM. What is a good time to arrive to the depot? Is 6:15 too late? 2. Once we arrive in Seward at 11:30-ish, is there separate boarding area for suite guests? 3. Our plan is to check-in, eat, and then get off the boat and head to the Alaska SeaLife Center. So you think that is doable? Is there transportation to the Center? Cruise: 1. Did Rita's ever serve crab-legs? 2. You had mentioned in one of your periscopes that you had signed up for a fishing excursion with Dave(?) from the Deadliest Catch show for tuna (?) fishing. I cannot locate this on TripAdvisor. Do you have any contact info or URL for them? We are currently signed up for the Knudson Cove Salmon Fishing excursion, but would love to hear more about your excursion. 3. Looking forward to venturing out on my own in Juneau. Planning on the tramway in the AM and Mendenhall in the PM. Thanks for all the photos and periscopes! Hoping our day will be as clear as yours turned out to be. 4. Did Next Cruise ever run any "deals"? Post-cruise: We are taking the Amtrak Cascade service to Seattle the evening (5:30-ish) Radiance arrives in Vancouver. Can you suggest some sort of excursion to do in Vancouver between ship debarkation and train embarkation? Will have more questions as you post. THANK YOU SO MUCH! My family, 13 year-old son included, is loving your blog posts! Your calving pics and video of Hubbard were FANTASTIC! We're ready to go NOW!! ?
  10. Got on the RCCL website this morning just to "check on things". It is s.l.o.w.e.r. than molasses. Maybe they're announcing new itineraries today? Maybe they're announcing a new sale today? Maybe their website is running slow? ?
  11. @twangster interested in your Klondike Skagway exploration.
  12. I'm sorry that happened. Usually, the cruise fare will be cheapest (for you) when you book it, except when the price goes down (but not usually).
  13. July 2020! For @JLMoran wife's birthday! How could we say "no" to that?
  14. Hi @CarolM! Welcome to the boards!! We just graduated from Disney Cruise Line with our 13 year old son. We had two requirements for our next cruises. 1) Must have a lot of adventure port excursions. Check. Alaska 2019 Southbound on Radiance of the Seas, and 2) Must have a lot to do onboard, if not port intensive. Check. Caribbean Holiday 2019 Oasis of the Seas. Have a great time!
  15. We will be cruising over Christmas 2019 on Oasis. Wondering which of the L1 Crown Loft suites has the largest balcony. My spatial figuring part of the brain isn't kicking in on the diagrams on this one. I just can't tell by looking at the pictures. Would appreciate any info from the many experienced Oasis CL cruisers. Many thanks and Happy Labor Day!
  16. FWIW, we are fishing every port during our Alaska south bound (July 2019), except for one. So that's 5 fishing excursions, 3 through Royal. Edit: we are fishing pre-cruise, as well. Depending on where we are fishing, the size, etc., we will be offered to keep, freeze, and ship. Can. Not. Wait! Fishing in Labadee Dec 2019, and a private journey 6 hrs fishing excursion for St. Thomas
  17. While we were on the Disney Magic, my son, who was 6 at the time (he's now 13) was not into the children's menu (he's a foodie, not picky). Our waiter in Animator's Palate asked him what he would like, instead. My son replied "a venison steak, please". (I thought, "oh brother"). The waiter replied, "how would you like it cooked?" My son replied, "how my mom makes it." I said medium rare, and that is exactly what our waiter brought out for him, plus french fries. ? FWIW: We have left Disney, since they've priced us out of our Alaska cruise. We are giving RCCL a try for the next couple of years and see how it goes, but for price and amenities that I WANT (to pay for), Royal seems like a no brainer. We are cruising to Alaska July 2019 in an Owner's suite. At the time of booking, that was the same price as a regular ocean view on DCL. The junior suite on Royal was the same price as an inside stateroom on DCL (at time of booking).
  18. Which ship and cruise date is this? I'm curious as to the MTD on the first night.
  19. We are planning on going to the Mystery Dinner Theater while on ROTS. Looking at Cruise Compasses and the one and only MDT menu on RCB, am I correct that MDT will always be in Giovanni's with Giovanni's menu item? Would love to knock out two birds with one stone, that is MTD AND Giovanni's.
  20. @Matt Just reminding you to schedule that July 2020 Canada/New England group cruise! Okay, I'm done. ?
