How old will they be when you sail? If you are booking a couple years out, I have seen travel car seats that fold up on Amazon - I would think the kids would need to be ready for just a booster though. I know in Western Caribbean itineraries, most places don't require car seats, and a lot of people just hold the kids in the car. Have you googled Bahamas car seat law? If the law is lax (or non-existent), you will probably have a really hard time finding a taxi or uber that has child seats available.

They will be about 20 months old. It makes me very nervous to travel without car seats, but it's extremely inconvenient to bring car seats along as they are HUGE and traveling with twins doesnt exactly leave a free hand for more "stuff" LOL!

  2. Hi Everyone!

It's been a while since I have posted. A lot has changed since our last RC cruise! We had TWINS! They just turned one and we are ready to book a cruise as a family of 4. We are looking at Oasis of the Seas to Port Canaveral and Bahamas. Our main concern prior to booking is transportation from the port into town. Last time we cruised to Port Canaveral we just Uber'd to cocoa beach and went for lunch and drinks, planning on the same this time around. And Atlantis at Nassau.

How to get around with infants? Without bringing two car seats. Does anyone have experience with ubers and car seats? (I may be a little spoiled, but when we went to Disney, the "Minnie Vans" [Lyft] always carried 2 graco 4ever seats for usage). What do parents with little ones do?

This is the one detail holding us up. We could certainly manage to do without leaving the port at port Canaveral, since it's not all that important to us. But we really want to spend the day at Atlantis with the kiddies.

Any advice is helpful! Thank you!

Unfortunately, that I do not know. I don't imagine it being too outrageous (especially if you find another group to share a taxi with), but I don't know that I've heard of a ton of people going to Sandals in Nassau. Most people seem to want to do the Atlantis thing.

we honeymooned at Sandals Antigua, love the resort chain! I think we will probably get a taxi over there, I'm sure there will be many of them at the port.

I've heard of quite a few people using the Jitneys in Nassau and having no problem - I think the big thing is just knowing where you're going in the first place and sticking to the tourist areas.

That said - if this is still a big concern taxis may be better! If you're going to resort from port in a taxi I don't imagine you'd run in to too much trouble.

Wondering about the price of a taxi for 2 -- drive is about 22-25 minutes from port. I wish Sandals would offer a car service for hire...

Here's what I found with a google search on "jitney" and it comes from the Urban Dictionary:

    TOP DEFINITION

Unlicensed taxi cabs that service high-crime areas where licensed cabs don't want to go.

Stick to a taxi, perhaps someone else can comment on Nassau and doing a non Royal excursion. :27_sunglasses:

Oh Geeze! LOL what a description!!

No clue.  We are still in bed. ?

The Captain announced that we actually won't be able to dock at Nassau until after 6pm because there are already too many ships there today.  We'll probably spend the day exploring the ship. We have really done that yet.

I do love me some sea days as well, hows the weather? Warmer, I hope!

Morning update- Coco Cay is cancelled. Too big of a challenge to tender. They have been trying to anchor for 1/2hr and aborting now. The Captain just announced that we are heading to Nassau for an overnight stay.

Still in bed. We are overjoyed. Lol. We are not beach people anyway!

oh man, that stinks! Unless you are not beach people lol. but I am! So what are you guys going to do in Nassau for an extra day then?

Loving your blog, by the way!!

  8. Hi All,

We are cruising this coming Saturday on Anthem, we are planning on getting a day pass to Sandals Royal Bahamian - about 22 minutes by car from the port. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to get there and back? It's not an excursion through RC.

Mainly trying to choose between the "Jitney" and a taxi. Is Nassau safe for tourists? Has anyone done the day pass before? Anyone ever taken the Jitney? How did you feel? Safe, nervous? I'm reading mixed reviews about the safety on the island.

    thanks!

The plan for the next few hours is to pack up, check out, and head on over to Cape Liberty. It's -1 degrees Celsius (feels like -7) right now. It's a cold one!  For my American friends, it's 30 degrees Fahrenheit (feels like 19). @SeasTheDayNJ I think it might be too cold for sail away in flip flops and sandals lol. Better luck next Saturday.

Ha. i'm wearing flips either way! Jersey girls are either in uggs or flips -- no in-between :8_laughing: and i'm certainly not bringing my uggs!

  10. I just have to add... I FEEL YA! This will be my 1st RC cruise, I have always been loyal to Carnival in the past (i know...i know :9_innocent:), but I was so confused and didn't know where to start. Also, I am new to message boards, so that's a double whammy.

That being said, the members here are GREAT! and so knowledgeable! I haven't even cruised yet (10 days away on Anthem of the Seas), but I feel like an expert (woah now) already! Between the live blogs, and the menus, and the reviews, and the friendliness, and the answered questions of all sorts, my 1st timer anxiety has subsided and I'm ready to get this vacation started!!

You've come to the right place!

First sea day weather this time of year can be hit or miss.  Hopefully you'll have great weather and depending on your tolerance to cool conditions get in some sun.

On two of my three Anthem cruises I couldn't make iFly and/or North Star reservations in advance.  I would suggest as soon as you board head to Boleros and make them with the Box Office staff.

Many of the entertainment cast from the shows take on a side job and become box office staff to help with reservations on day 1.  Upon boarding heading the circular staircase right near where you enter the ship and Boleros is right there on deck 4.  After that take care of any specialty restaurants reservations.  Cabin's aren't ready yet anyways so you might as well kill some time making reservations.

    Thanks for the tips!

I am wondering about the weather too.  Just finished packing my clothes and clothes for the kids and hoping we packed correctly for the weather.  Will make note of it for sure.

I already put on my list to find out for you about the pub menu.  I'll take a pic and post it.  We plan to eat there since they didn't change the food menu.  The burger, fish & chips, and the peanut butter dessert thing is calling.

And according to a live blog in December by @twangster, you can make reservations once you get on board at the Box Office on deck 4 (or sometimes it's set up in Boleros)

I packed as well, I usually live in bathing suits, cover ups, and dinner outfits. lol. This time, I have a pair of jeans and a sweater. I suppose I'll be boarding in jeans and sandals. Good thing for the indoor pools.

Yay for the pub! can't wait to try the pb in a jar everyone raves about.

and thanks @twangster - I'll have to check out your live blog again since my trip is coming up - can't wait!

Will do. Let me know if there are last minute things you want me to find out for you ?

2 things I'm curious about. The weather on the 1st full sea day, will it be warming up to use the outdoor pool area and get a tan? also the last sea day.

And, how is the new pub? Sailing on St. Patty's day, so looking to get the good pub feel!

ok, wait, maybe 3 things :13_upside_down: where do we go once we get on board to book the North Star and Rip Cord fly thing?

  14. wow! I'm glad I found this thread. We were planning on arriving at 1130 like our online check in says. (1st time RC cruiser). What is the earliest time we can arrive to board? 10am? Anthem of the Seas out of Cape Liberty. We are only about an hour driving distance from the port.
