Get that Edge sailing booked, the prices keep climbing.  You may want to put in your travel-agent's ear the idea of putting a deposit down the moment new Edge itineraries drop.  To give you an idea prices have already doubled on the first Edge sailings.

@monorailmedic, I saw the prices for the Eastern and Western cruises for beginning of 2019.  It may be too costly by the time the new deployment comes out, I agree with you,  although I looked at RC Symphony too and it's very expensive ( I have booked suites in the past, they are too expensive on that one too). I got such a great deal on the Equinox, couldn't pass it up! I also heard rumors they want to put the Edge based in Australia too so all this may be a moot point! LOL!!

  2. Wow @WAAAYTOOO, alot to absorb.  I know I don't have any points etc as the last time I was on a RC ship, it's now Scrap metal somewhere (Song of America!) and now I'm dating myself.

I am going to check it out in May, and in fact will be on the Grandeur, so I like the idea of the smaller ship getting to know the Casino Manager staff etc.  We are not big gamblers, but I love to gamble, just have to make sure I don't have any cocktails while doing it! LOL!! I so appreciate your feedback and advise. Thank you!!!

RCI appears to do a lot of analytics, study sales trends, trying to predict purchasing trends.  At times I've had multiple bookings and all had different prices for drink packages.  In other forums you people post they saw it for $X then some one on the same ship a week later sees it for $Y.  For my Allure cruise in May it was $46 for months, then a month out that disappeared and you could only buy it bundled with Voom.  We were in a suite that included Voom so I didn't want to do that.  A week before sailing it re-appeared at $46 on its own.  Weird.

So the answer is... I don't know.  The good news if you buy it and then see it cheaper, refund it and buy it again at the lower price.

Thanks so much Twangster! It's so frustrating but the more I think about it, unless it's a real sale I might not bother. We are in a Suite, so we have Concierge, and I will have about $400 OBC too by the time we sail. But again, I also don't want to think about that 4th bottle of water that I drink all day either!

  4. LOL you sound like me!! I drive my travel agent nuts!!!

Don't really know for that one but someone else might have a better idea. All I can tell you is that for our last cruise on Harmony it was $55 then for Black Friday it went 30%off and then it went to $46 and stayed like that until sailing. Perhaps it depends how well the packages are selling on a particular sailing? But I am big on FOMO so once it see it I don't think about it for long lol.

LOL you sound like me! I drive my travel agent absolutely nuts!!

FYI...Thanks to the daily checking of my cruise planner :10_wink:, I noticed that the drink package for our sailing (Anthem-March 9, 2018) is down to $43/day.  It was at $55/day yesterday still.  I decided to jump on it and not wait for the Black Friday sale that may or may not come.  Anyway, I called RC because like some of you have mentioned, I needed an exemption because my husband does not drink due to medical reason.  Thought this was going to be easy from the comments I read over the last few days...

The agent I spoke to refused to exempt my husband.  He said the only way it would work is if I purchased the deluxe but he would at least have to purchase the refreshment package.  Thank goodness for the blog @Matt did a few days ago along with whoever provided a copy of that email because again I had to speak to a supervisor and quote the email directly.  In the end it all worked out but it was not as smooth sailing for me as it was for others.

HI Sabrina, I'm curious, maybe you know or @twangster if you do see the sale on the beverage package how long does it usually stay on Cruise Planner, in case for whatever reason you don't sign in everyday.

  6. Ok, I have a stupid question. Can you use your ON BOARD CREDIT toward drink purchases??  Reason I ask is, I got the Celebrity Credit Card ( we re booked on 2 and so far one RC) and I am usingi t pay off the cruises and already have enough points for $200 OBC and have $100 from the booking itself on RC.  With the CC, you automatically get 10,000 points (equal to $100 OBC) and when you go online to Bank of America you can see your points and switch between the 2 cruise lines for applying the points.

I don't intend on using it for Shore excursion, maybe one, we like to do our own thing, perhaps dining.  I don't need it for the Celebrity as we got all 4 perks when booking including Premium drink package so was wondering if just use what I have and not purchase the drink package on RC cruise.

On the Grandeur a few weeks ago I stuck to MDR, all 9 nights.  When I've sailed Oasis class I had access to Coastal Kitchen and/or specialty dining.  Being a newbie on RCI ships I wanted to have the full MDR experience to validate my overall switch to RCI that I've begun.   I was very happy eating in the MDR.  Menu was different each night, with a theme.  Saffron, Portobello, Sage, etc.  I've attached the MDR menus, the theme for the night in the upper left corner.

Hi Twangster!  I"m on Grandeur in May, will this be the same menu by then?

Hi Boston Babe, my wife and I did a 9 night cruise on Grandeur out of Baltimore almost two years ago to the day. We just got off a TA on Serenade (same class ship) and I can tell you with 100% certainty to book the Canada/New England cruise. Not only is the itinerary great (ours was: Portland Maine, Bar Harbor Maine, St Johns NB, Halifax NS, Boston) but the ship is also pretty fun too! Not sure if they have the same cruise director staff but ours was fantastic and there was always something to do on the ship and not just trivia either!

The headliner shows were great and we personally enjoyed that this was the only ship we've been on recently where they actually leave the hot tubs open late at night on cold evenings instead of closing them down at 7 pm. I would definitely do this cruise for sure. If you have any specific questions (things to do or see) just let me know.

Thanks so much elspeedo!! LOL, I decided to stick with original plans this year, on Grandeur to Bermuda and I'm hoping they have the same itinerary for Sept 2019. by then we would have exhausted most of everything we wanted to do. another reason, is we were looking at the May cruise and I thought up north it still might be a bit chilly at least north of Portland.  We will take that trip, we got married in Marblehead and I lived there (Boston/Marblehead? but haven't been back in 6 year.  I am looking forward to it if it works out! Thanks so very much!

I love Grandeur of the Seas. We are booked on the 9 day cruise in June 2018. We have been on the ship 10 times.

Wow!1 10 times!! Now I am more convinced we are doing the right thing.  It looks like just what we want and Baltimore is so close for us.  We are booked on 2 Celebrity Cruises in 2019, but wanted to add one more for 2018. I like just cruising, bermuda is just the added bonus. Thanks so much Sweety!!

We absolutely love the ship .... for us -- it is absolutely perfect .... the kids are grown so we don't need a lot of those " bells & whistles" that the newer ships have, plus, we just love how you become part of a "family" of crew and passengers.  We've met so many great people, some of which we cruised with last year and will be cruising again with in the future.

To us, Grandeur is like the Goldilocks of ships --Not too big, Not too small ---Just right.

    Mark

You just convinced me even more! We are like you, we don't need the bells and whistles either, we like to relax, read, have a few cocktails that's about it! Thanks so much Mark!!

I wouldn't call it weird at all -- Bermuda can't be experienced in one visit ---- For example ..... Visit #1 (2016) -- Horseshoe Bay and Dockyard Shops --- Visit #2 (2017) -- Crystal Caves, Hamilton and Dockyard Restaurants --- Visit #3 (2018), Since now we'll be in Bermuda for 2 nights with a Full Day in between, we're going to devote that full day strictly to St. George and everything up at that end of the island.  As for the other two days, who know, we may go back to Horseshoe plus we want to try the Anchor Restaurant, we may do that the first night we're there.

Bermuda is gorgeous .... it's worth going to repeatedly, and for those that haven't been there, you're truly missing one of the gems of the Atlantic.

It really is one of the gems.  I thought you would say what you did, but wanted your opinion just in case and I take it you really like the Grandeur too? I like the size of the ship as well. I think I'm going to book 5 night again for July for our anniversary!

    Thank you so very much!!
