I wasn’t entirely truthful…. or that’s what Hubby told me when I first presented the idea of this cruise to him.  The last time I blogged in March, while on board Anthem, I said the next live blog wou

So if you've been following these boards for a while, you will already know how much I love La Bamba when sailing out of South Florida. You probably have already heard @JLMoran, @tonyfsu21, and @belle

Solarium Photos: RC did an awesome job with this area. Loungers have been replaced and they have added in sun beds and other areas to lay around in. It has a very modern Miami type feel to it. I

Loving the pics.......surprised you mentioned about the Bamboo room being empty as it seems on other review si have read it was a place to hang out....but it can vary from cruise to cruise I guess.

Playmakers looks nice.....wonder how busy that gets at night as a late night option......

Solarium has defn been spruced up nicely I agree....never spend any time in there on past cruises but I might check it out a little more often with al the upgrades done to the beds and chairs

I too was surprised by the low crowds in Playmakers and Bamboo Room last night. However, it was only around 9:45pm when I went by so maybe the crowds are later? Both venues open till midnight.

What I wonder is if the late night WJ offerings have anything to do with the low crowds at other venues?  We went by the WJ last night around 11pm and it was packed! You couldn't even get a seat!  So maybe people figure that included food is better than food that costs extra?? Or maybe it is dependant on the sailing as I know which review you are referring to 😉

She sure looks like an awesome ship! So pretty and casual tropical feel to it!

Very much so. They have done a great job!

Thank you so much for the Solarium pictures as well as the drink menus from the different bars.  Nice to see what wines are available especially since I have the beverage package.

I'll try to include a wine list from the MDR tonight too. I don't have drink package this cruise and I'm with my kids, so I have not paid much attention to the beverage offerings.

Thank you - that would be wonderful!  Just trying to figure out which red wines I'll have access to within the drink package or with paying a few extra $$$!

Day 4 Sea Day and last day 😥

We are sailing ever so slowly back to Miami today. The ship is moving along at about 5 knots. That pretty much describes our morning too today. D10 is still in bed. This is my view as I write this:

We have no set plans today other than rock climbing for D10. Billy Pando is playing again tonight in the Schooner Bar so hopefully we will be able to catch a bit more of him than Tuesday night.  Last night we finally got around to checking out the WJ late night snacks. They open at 10:30pm every night and we wandered in around 11pm. Only a portion of the WJ was opened (that was expected) but it was crowded that there was no where to sit! That was unexpected. We did not stay to eat but I tried to grab a few pics. They are not great ones (it was crowded and the food was picked through), but it gives you an idea of what is offered. It was typical late night snacks. Nothing out of the ordinary. Burgers, tacos, hot dogs, fried chicken, and some desserts.

Hubby and I were talking last night about whether or not the late night snacks take away from business at Playmakers and Bamboo Room. Also, they have put Jamie's and Chops right next to the WJ, and I wonder if that also takes business away from those restaurants. It could be the sailing but those restaurants have not looked busy at all the times that we have walked by. In addition, there have been more people walking around trying to drum up sales for specialty restaurants here than on any other cruise. We have been offered a discount of 20-30% off every day so far!

If it's any comfort...we only eat like this when we cruise. Will be back to our normal breakfast of yogurt really soon....

Most Voyager and Freedom class ships have specialty restaurants on either side of the WJ, so it's not a new thing.  I feel like most people that eat at a specialty restaurant don't decide just by walking by on a whim.  But that's just a guess.

Yea...I mentioned that to Hubby in passing last night (about the location of them). I'm only making speculations too but I do know that there is a lot of soliciting this sailing. I don't mind that. It leads to fun conversations with crew members. But some people might.

Very interesting...usually a big complaint for years was the lack of late night food options when sailing Royal. Now its like they have gone overboard the other way...offering free late night food as well as snacks you can pay for. Cant have It both ways.....

I have a feeling that there isn't much after 1am??(WJ and Playmakers not serving food?)....which is when usually when the bars/clubs start to empty out(or later).....

Were they offering any discounts or deals at Playmakers?..Their food looks better but not sure I am ok with spending that kinda money for food when there is free food still available.

Have you noticed if the pub has been any less crowded than on other ships with Playmakers being right there? I thought it seemed odd to have both venues because they seem so similar and I would assume attract similar clientele.

The pub was quiet the first two nights but last night is was quite busy. Playmakers has been about 1/2 full each night that we have passed by.

WJ runs until 12:30am and after that it's just Cafe promenade.

Unless I could arrange some kind of B2B on her, I don't see how I could justify sailing her with airfare for 4, but I have to say she really looks impressive after all the changes!

That sundae on the Playmakers menu is interesting. Five scoops of Ben & Jerrys, which is presumably a large plus a medium, plus the toppings listed and the souvenir bucket its served in. Price actually seems surprisingly reasonable, given the large + medium at B&J's is $7.25, and I'm assuming there is a surcharge there for toppings if you get more than one or two.

The new Solarium looks fantastic! I hope that's something they'll do for the AMPED program on all of the ships getting updates.

I had no idea Boleros had such a great drink menu. Does that look similar to what you've seen on other ships? I'll definitely have to stop at the one on Anthem for a mojito or two, just to mix it up with my usual margaritas. And speaking of... the tequila selection there beats anything I saw at any other bar on Freedom!

The Boleros menu looks pretty standard to me. I like their peach Margarita there. And keep an eye on airfare. We paid less than $1000 for all 4 of us. About $232pp RT. from DTW.

I am defn even more excited now for my Oct cruise on her....they have defn given it a tropical look and feel but still not to much so it doesn't feel totally different

I defn jealous of the airfare you pay!..thanks to high airfare out this way, I have yet to be able to afford a week long cruise.....when its close to $1200 for 2 ppl just to get their and back, it makes for a very expensive vacation before you even get onboard! (last time I checked WJ wanted $1187 per person...still haven't booked yet..may have to start walking...lol)

Solution...move to Ontario and become "ontarioguy" instead 😆

I can't remember, did you book the 3 or 4 night sailing?

Thank you for providing insights and photos on this new ship! Our sailing is on Labor Day in a few weeks and I couldn't be more excited! My kids (5 and 7) are really excited to try the Skypad. By any chance did you run into any sales for the Escape Room challenge? I've never done one, and I am looking forward to participating in the one on the ship!

Thanks again!

Late to this party and binging on your blog today now that everyone is settled in school.  Haven't even tried to watch your scopes but maybe in a few days!  Great job on the blog and pictures!

I can't believe your RT plane ticket price.  That really makes it a great deal as that is around my price one way.  I would agree with @JLMoran to somehow make it a B2B to make it worth the airfare.

While I know Harmony is your favorite, would you go on Mariner again?   For the price, it seems to be an great option.
