Stateroom location preference

Can anyone share some pros/cons between these two inside stateroom locations aside from the motion one would feel?...

upper deck forward/aft vs lower deck mid ship.

Pros and cons of upper deck vs. lower deck will depend on what aspects of the ship you're going to utilize the most. What's more important - proximity to the pool deck and Windjammer or proximity to the MDR/shops/casino?

As for forward/aft/mid, the biggest thing to consider is how close you are to an elevator/staircase. Do you want to be close for convenience or farther away to limit noise?

As a "worst case" example, we encountered some rough waters for most of a sea day on Grandeur back in January and I can honestly say that the motion in our Forward Stateroom on deck four was MUCH more noticeable than being anywhere from mid-ship to aft.

Thanks for the replies so far! To add to the discussion, we're sailing on Vision of the Seas in the Mediterranean. Right now we're assigned deck 2 midship. I'm just concerned we'll feel very far away from fresh air. Having been on 4000+ passenger ships, I know it can take some time getting from point A to point B but with a smaller ship like Vision maybe this isn't the case? Being deck 2, will we appreciate being closer to the exits for disembarkment in ports? I'm assuming it can be very busy with everyone trying to start their tours. or will we be thankful we can reach the outdoors more quickly if we switch to deck 7 or 8?

A few years ago when we sailed on Enchantment we were on deck 2 or 3 and it wasn't bad at all. Some other plusses to being there is its very quiet at night and in the morning. Also felt very little motion from the ship especially on the final night as a tropical storm was following us back to Florida. Our friends and family that were on deck 8 or 9 both couldn't stop talking about how rough the seas were.

Which ship?  The difference may also vary considerably depending on the class of ship.

Regardless, I think the "difference" is going to be a very personal observation.  Your particular sensitivity to "motion in the ocean" is going to be quite subjective.

As a general rule of thumb, being on a low deck, mid ship is where many experts say you should be to minimize the feeling of movement.  It's not to say you won't feel movement there, nor does it mean you will definitely feel it worse on a higher/forward/aft stateroom.

The Vision is a relatively small ship, so I wouldn't worry about crowds. Plus, if you're using the elevators, there should be no crowds going up from deck 2. You'll also have the promenade deck just a couple of decks up where you can get fresh air and walk outside.

I prefer midship for motion purposes and have been on Deck 2 on similar ships in rough seas and noticed much less movement compared to elsewhere on the ship. The downside is you're much farther away from the buffet and upper decks, so it takes a couple of minutes longer to get there.

I just sailed on thr Vision of the Seas two weeks ago out of Galveston.  We were on deck 3 near midship and I never felt cramped or far away from fresh air. I believe it was Deck 4 or 5 that had a walk way on both sides of the ships that had deck chairs so you really arent that far from fresh air.
