Cowcrazy65
Is there a limit per person? We would like to purchase some rum and tequila while in port. I know they take it and return it to you the night before you disembark. We do not plan on buying a case. Just did not want a surprise when we went to reboard. Thanks Lisa
Matt
I don't think RC minds how much you bring back, but remember they will confiscate it until your last night of your cruise. Cowcrazy65
Michel
Matt is right, the cruise line wont mind about how much you bring back. But the important thing is to check what are the rules to bring back alcool in your country when you go through the customs back in port. There is, as you mentioned, a limit on how many an adult can bring back. For us in Canada, it's 1.14 L per person. They will let you go with two 750 ml of wine or liquor. I beleive it's about the same for US resident. You might want to check the US custom web site.
DocLC
Confiscate is such a harsh word. Perhaps "store it for your convenience" (and to pad the bar tab) would be more appropriate. ;) markinct and Matt

Here in the States you can bring back a liter, but if you pick up a liter distilled in an "insular United States Territory" - i.e., the US Virgin Islands - you're allowed another 4 from anyplace else duty free. Matt
Silly??? when we disembark- ;) do we place the alcohol we bought on cruise in our luggage we carry on/off? On the last night Royal Caribbean will deliver it to your stateroom. I usually see people carrying it off like other carry on luggage Cowcrazy65
DocLC
If you're on a B2B, do not hey delivery at the end of your 1st cruise or are they savvy enough to hold it through the second cruise?

Galveston Steve
If you sail from the Port of Galveston, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) has agents sitting at a table after you clear Immigration. They will ask you if you are bringing back any alcohol or cigarettes. If so, you will need to pay the state tax for importing them into the state, whether they are purchased in the ship's duty free store or in a foreign port of call (this also applies if importing from another state, but that's difficult for the TABC to collect). These items are still exempt of any Federal duty. The law limits personal importation by an adult to once every 30 days with limits of 1 gallon of distilled spirits, 3 gallons of wine, and 288 ounces of malt beverages (24 12-ounce containers). Tax due for a 750ml bottle of wine is $3.25, for a 750ml bottle of distilled spirits is $3.50. These rates include a $3.00 "administrative fee". Cigarette tax is $1.50/pack or $15.00/carton. Other tax rates are available here: http://www.tabc.state.tx.us/poe/tax_rates.asp You can pay with a credit card and they will give you a receipt and a sticker to place on the bottle. Failure to pay the tax and obtain the appropriate stamp will subject violators to a fine ranging from $100 to $1,000 and/or a jail term of up to one year. We stayed legal and paid the $3.25 for our single bottle. I do not know if they do random luggage checks. Have a nice day and welcome home! Hooper
As for the B2B question... I've had alcohol "accidentally" delivered at the end of the first week once, and then last year, they held it until the end of the second week. So, it's 50-50 whether you get it... jlynn222
I'm confused about how you pay the tax on alcohol..if I bought a bottle of grey goose on the ship do I need to go somewhere when I get off the ship and pay the tax or am I allowed to have 1 bottle tax free? Marc
Duty (tax) is a complicated thing as it depends on where you cruised to, where you are disembarking, and how much you have. Ignoring Galveston cruises for the moment (as Texas has its own rules regarding duty on alcohol purchases that are in addition to the federal rules), you can generally bring one liters of alcoholic beverages with you duty-free. You can bring two liters if at least one of them was produced in the Caribbean. If you visited the U.S. Virgin Islands during your cruise, then the limit is raised to five liters, but at least one of them must be a product of the U.S. Virgin Islands. You may bring excess alcohol, but you would be required to pay duty on the excess amount. All duty is paid after you disembark and is handled as part of the customs/immigration process in the terminal.
