Texan Catholic Posted February 12, 2024 Report Posted February 12, 2024 Hi there. As a travel agent and also a RCL sailor over Easter weekend it would be helpful to know if RCCL has made arrangements for Mass on Easter when we are at sea (Voyager, 3/28). Further it would be helpful in my quest to getting my friends onboard an Easter cruise. Quote
WesKinetic Posted February 12, 2024 Report Posted February 12, 2024 I'm not aware of any "official" list, but I do know that RCCL always tries to book a priest for Christmas and Easter sailings. Same with a rabbi for Hanukkah and Passover. While they obviously can't guarantee the clergy member won't have to cancel at the last minute for some reason, the odds are very good that there will be a priest on any Easter sailings. More info at RCCL FAQ: Does Royal Caribbean offer Religious Services onboard? USFFrank 1 Quote
Pattycruise Posted February 13, 2024 Report Posted February 13, 2024 So a bishop walks into the casino bar…. I am currently on Anthem, today we saw a Catholic Bishop walk into the casino bar (really! Not a joke!). Someone spoke with him and apparently he had held mass on embarkation day (Sunday) and no one (or few)showed up. There were no announcements-apparently announced religious events don’t happen. now in the past , on other ships, I’ve seen a social board where these types of things are listed I’ve never noticed this board on Anthem, nor are there announcements to go look for this social events board. the Bishop will be giving ashes on Ash Wednesday, I shared that info on the FB group for our sailing, otherwise I’ve no idea how anyone would know. so-when you board maybe ask guest services the cruise director or look for the social events board and see if it’s posted. WAAAYTOOO Posted February 13, 2024 Report Posted February 13, 2024 Interesting. How in the world would anyone guess that there was going to be a priest onboard if they don't announce anything ? ...and it's no surprise to me that few, if any, were in attendance. I'm glad he was there for those who care but it seems a bit arbitrary. I guess those who care know to ask ? Pattycruise 1 Quote

drjohn4 Posted February 13, 2024 Report Posted February 13, 2024 Since it's not well publicized, I ask at guest services after boarding if Catholic mass is available and also check the social board. Zero for 2 so far. WAAAYTOOO 1 Quote
USFFrank Posted February 13, 2024 Report Posted February 13, 2024 While on Adventure of the Seas during Easter 2019 the Mass time and location was listed in the Cruise Compass. Quote
barjpoe Posted February 13, 2024 Report Posted February 13, 2024 Yes, check the CC I've seen both a Catholic Mass then soon after that a non-denominational church service was listed. I have also seen on Friday nights a Jewish service was being offer, but it was listed as self-led. Quote
MorganH Posted February 14, 2024 Report Posted February 14, 2024 Thanks for the good info as my husband is an Episcopal priest (former Catholic priest) and says Mass for our family when we cruise. I will have him post something on the boards as we would welcome anyone that wanted to join. USFFrank, WAAAYTOOO and wstephensi 1 3 Quote
jeffmw Posted February 16, 2024 Report Posted February 16, 2024 I'm Jewish, so I can't speak for Easter, but I have been on cruises during both Hanukkah [not a particularly religious holiday] and Rosh Hashanah [a notably religious holiday], and they do seem to plan well for religious observances. For Hanukkah there were a ton of Jews onboard because it was during Winter Break on Symphony. They had a rabbi on board and they had a menorah lighting along with latkes (potato pancakes, a staple food for the holiday) every night of the cruise during Hanukkah, which we thought was pretty impressive. I think it was in the Cruise Compass. A lot of people attended (upwards of 100 people some nights). On Rosh Hashanah on Adventure, they had a small service in the Crown Chapel, but there were not many observant Jews aboard, as it's a pretty religious holiday and most Jews would likely not take a vacation during it. All that said, I have to imagine there are full, comprehensive services on board for Easter, given the level to which it's celebrated by a majority of the ship's passengers (and crew, for that matter).
