Beach Recommendations (St. Maarten & St. Thomas)

I did some googling and now would like to ask...does anyone have any comments on Great Bay or Little Bay beach in St. Maarten?

Great Bay is walkable from the port (about 10-15 mins) or accessible from the water taxi (about $7/person for the daily wristband or $4 each way). The water taxi dock is basically smack in the center of Great Bay Beach.

Take a right from the dock and there are lots of places that will sell you chairs and umbrellas. Holland House is that way as well and they usually have a chair/umbrella/drink deal.  The beach/water isn't really pretty but it's a great photo op of the cruise ship and usually no waves.

If you go left from the water taxi dock it's less crowded and that's where the sports rentals will be (jet skis, banana boats, etc).

Another plus is Front Street is one block up from the beach front. Front Street is where the shopping is.

I have not been to Little Bay so no comments there.

The easiest low key beach on St Maarten with a casual beach bar and free umbrellas/chairs is Karacter Bar on Simpson bay. Runs parallel alongside the airport so it can be loud however you can enjoy the planes without the crazy crowds of Maho Beach (found at the end of the runway but overrun with tourists). Taxis are cheap and most will plan a time with you to come back and pick up!
