1st Timer. Making sure my ducks are in a row

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the great site, been reading up some of the things before our cruise.

Right now, we have a couple of excursions chosen, Deluxe drink package (I assume they changed the ultimate that was a few years ago to deluxe now?) and got it all paid for. Are the Excursion schedule (for what we purchased available in our room when we arrive).

Alcohol: Can we bring any alcohol on the ship or is that not allowed?

We are going on the Enchantment of the Seats and I have a few different questions so I am all set to go (and so there are no surprises headed our way).

Dining:

My Fair Lady (Deck 4): Included in ticket fare. Other specialty dinners is not included in fare will cost extra (if it is not purchased on the dinner package. Purchasing this, will, essentially lose a free meal day. It's basically extra money for RC but it does offer an additional and more special experience.

My fair lady dining times (We chose my time dining):

Breakfast 8:00 AM to 10:00AM

Lunch: Basserie 30 11:30AM to 1:00PM (Designed for 30 minute eating)

Dinner: My time Dining 5:30 PM to 9:30PM (Deck 5). Main Seating 5:45PM (Deck 4)

Solarium Bistro (Deck 9): I assume this is additional and not included in ticket fare? From what I read, the menu is typically Burgers, Pizza and Fries.

Chops Grille (Deck 6) is definitely not included in ticket fare. I think I recently seen the price as $35 per person (dried steads cost more on top of the CG reservation cost, which can be pre-purchased before cruise or on the cruise itself.

Ben & Jerry's (Deck 6) - I read that pastries are free? But the coffee is not. I am also not sure if the coffee is included in the deluxe drink package at this location. I did read that if the ship has a starbucks, that this is not included in the drink packages.

Activities:

Are all activities on the ship free and included in the ticket fare? As far as shows and whatnot? If so, which does are additional (potentially be charged on the seapass account).

What activities does this ship offer?

I did read that there is a Orpheum Theater and it offers free first-run movies to musical revues and comedic performances. And if someone wants to gable, there is a Casino on Deck 5.

Exercising:

Abs classes and stretching fee but pilates and cycling is a $12 fee.

Photos:

Does anyone know what a single photo costs? I don't think I want to spend $110 on a photo package. A single 6x9 or the size of a sheet of paper would suffice for me.

I grabbed this information from various places so it could be wrong. If anything is wrong please let me know so I can be better informed before going on the cruise.

Also, if I left out anything in regards what cost additional on the ship or counters what I wrote, that is also welcome. I want to be sure that we have a plan stick to it and not spend more money that we originally intended. This is easy to do with a seapass card and not being informed ahead of time what is free and what is not.

Thanks Everyone.

For prebook excursion, the tickets will be delivered to your cabin. They may or may not be there when you board, but they will be delivered. Regarding alcohol, you're only permitted to carry-on two bottles of wine per cabin. As for specialty restaurants, the experience is very different--more attentive service--and the food quality is better. I used to try to eat at at least one specialty restaurant per cruise, then started trying then all. My previous cruise we dined in specialty restaurants 50% of the time, but on my last cruise, we dined there exclusively for dinner. It really comes down to priorities and what you're looking for. For us, the extra $100 per person for the dining package was with paying a little more for better food and a better overall experience.

You can take 2 - 750ml bottles of wine per cabin.  These should be carried on with you in your carry on luggage.

Any bag that they suspect may have alcohol in it will not be delivered to you room and you will have to retrieve it.  If it contains alcohol they will confiscate it.

If I do the chops grille option (which I think is now $35 per person) and that we have the deluxe drink package, does our alcoholic beverages count towards the drink package? If we have unlimted then I can imaging the drink are at bar prices. And if that counts toward our deluxe package (so we can get our drink on lol) the better.

Also, how does Chops Grille work. I read they do steaks (dried out is more) but do you get to choose what you want you want and that's included in the $35 price or is it already set for you?

Your drinks at specialty restaurants are included in the drink package

I believe, from what I've read,  you get one choice of entrée, but as many apps, salads and desserts as you want. If I'm wrong, I know I will be corrected! :)

ok I looked up a site that does parking booking. One is $8 a day other is 10.95 a day with free round trip shuttle. I think this is a good option than the parking garage. I am not sure if there are others yet. I am still looking online.

I always park at the port for the convenience.  However, offsite parking in Miami has a reputation for safety issues people have experienced. I hate sounding like someone's overprotective aunt, who half heard a story on 60 minutes once and repeats it all the time, but you should look into any off-site parking safety procedures.

I was researching Port of Miami parking yesterday and have to concur with the safety issues here. Even though the port is twice the price, I read many experiences of people having problems with the safety of their cars. For me, it's worth paying the extra $70 for the week for piece of mind.

The pastries, sandwiches, salads and desserts are free st the Cafe along side Ben & Jerty"s. The food is very good. Coffee is not free and Ben & Jerty"s is not free. I believe you can buy a coffee card.

My Time Dining it is still best to make reservations for all 4 nights if not you wait in line to be seated. Deck 4 dining is for Reservations dining. You will eat on Deck 5.

There is a casino on Deck 5 and you use your SeaPass card in the machine. The shows in the theater are free. The paper you get in your room every day will tell what is taking place every minute. If there is a charge that will be noted.

You can buy a photo package before the cruise it is offered online for $99 for all pictures taken as opposed to $199 when on the ship. I just got off of the Enchantment and a single photo was $19.99.

If you are going to use the Internet Cafe they only have 10 computers so try to use early in morning or late at night.

Go about 15 minutes early for a good seat in the theater.

I looked at airportparkingreservations.com and that seems to be a good way to go instead of using questionable parking locations like 8300 or the garage that is 10 min from the port. Read lots of bad things about those. However, it would seem that some hotels charge $6 to $20 a day depending on the hotel to park in their lot.

If for example I select embassy suites, I'm sure their shuttle to the port cost extra. Shuttle from hotel to port is $12 a person ($24 one way). But we'd have to get there before 11:30 when it leaves for the port. They do not offer return trips from the port so lyft or uber for that. Reserving at the hotel is $8/day. The other option is getting lyft or uber ride that is about $12-13 ($13 if uber share).

Hotel to port + shuttle $8/day @ hotel, 12 per person ($24) to port + ~$13 return trip with lyft or uberpool ~$77 total.  Or forgo the shuttle and it's $26 lyft or uberpool for ~$66-~$70.

So I have some pretty good options. You guy are right, it's better to park in a safer location that is monitored as it's worth the extra cost. I read that even at that garage (not the one at the port), they guy came in with a full tank only to find his gas nearly empty afterwards and another person had their car moved and the garage people there had to find it. Plus, I don't think the wait it worth it.

At what terminal would I find where the ship would arrive at? I want to be make sure if I do an uber or lyft that I select the closest drop-off location to tell the driver.

Unless your cruise is like the last one I took in January.  The demographic definitely skewed on the older side and you had to be in the theater 30 minutes before a show to get a good seat.

Always having to deal with the olds...

...looks in mirror....gulp.   :(
