Mrs. Regular
Is this a newer cruise stop? I am striking out on initial research. Does anyone have info or insight on this port? I don't visit until 2023 but hoping to get a sense of what to expect and figure out if we want this to be an active day or a more passive beach day. Thanks! twangster
Yes, at least for Royal. More info should start to appear throughout 2022. Mrs. Regular
Plumlee2028
I am going on Celebrity in a couple weeks. There are about 17 or 18 excursion options right now (For reference, only 12 or 13 in Nassau, so relatively more in Puerto Plata). They have several that have animal experience/shows at a marine park. There are hiking/waterfalls/jeep expeditions in various combos. There is an excursion to boat out to a sandbar which is set up like a beach club. There is kayaking through a manatee reserve and a few others as well. As for the port itself, it is still a work in progress I think. WAAAYTOOO, Shari3 and Mrs. Regular 2

Vacation Crazy
We have this port stop on our November, 2022 Odyssey cruise. They have no excursions listed yet. I'm patiently waiting to see what is available. We are excited for a new port.
Mrs. Regular
I just saw an ad for a Shore Thing (Virgin's term for excursion) in this port for upcoming sailings. I'll have to take a look at what Virgin offers to also get an idea. This is cool to go somewhere new. At this point just about anything in the Caribbean is new to me though, lol! Shari3
I am booked for 6/23 on Liberty that has this port as well as La Romana. Looking foward to seeing what others experiences are. Exciting new ports for sure! Mrs. Regular
dale kishbaugh
We are booked on Wonder for 12/31/22. Our first land stop is Puerto Plata, Dominican Rep. Prefer not to brave the water falls, swim with dolphins or snorkel. Has anyone been there and have recommendations? We are there from 9AM to 4:30PM. Excited to go to a new port!! Bedstemorcarol
We are currently on vision of the seas. We did the puerto plata cultural experience today on 1/9/2023. It is a 5 hour city tour by bus. You are pretty much in view of the ship the whole time. You start at a rum factory at 9 am and visit stops at the town square a self guided audio tour at the fort. A visit to a museum and end with a Dominican lunch. It was very educational but 5 hours was a bit long. As a side note the pier walk is extremely long but they do offer free rides. The tour bus drops you off at the far end of the dock area and that is even a longer walk back through the shops to get to that long pier walk back.
