We are travelling to the Med in 22 and are trying to plan a Royal Caribbean excursion out of Civitavecchia that doesn't go to Rome (been there, done that). Suggestions?  Can't get an updated excursion brochure yet.  Thanks for sharing your suggestions.

You can get some ideas and make some contacts from the Facebook "Ports" group.   There are some local Civitavecchia travel agents that can refer you to some interesting excursions near the port city.  Examples:  Thermal baths and Etruscan archeological  digs and museums.  Some small towns with the classic Italian village feel like Tuscania which is about 30 mi northeast of the the port.   Look for postings from Pamela Marchetti (she's a local Civitavecchia TA).

Look up Ostia Antica if you like historical ruins.  Its the ruins of the ancient port and is really pretty neat - on the same level as Pompeii.  I'm not sure if Royal has an excursion but it shouldn't be hard to get a taxi to take you there and back.

She’s awesome! We’re considering doing the thermal spa before boarding (or boarding, dropping our bags and getting back off until all aboard.)

Here’s her Facebook group @ChessE4
