chilling by the pool on Formal nights
FManke replied to glizotte's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
If you read all the posts here regarding this subject, most would say that you can get away with a collared shirt and Dockers for dinner any night including Formal night. From what I've read, this would almost be "formal dress" on most nights in the MDR. -

Hey, don't these postings belong to the "you know you are a cruise geek when" thread? -

Please tell me about Serenade of the seas
FManke replied to cjappert's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
I'd say that's a really low number for a school holiday cruise, but I'm sure the ship has a lot to do with it. Like previous posts have mentioned, Serenade doesn't have all the bells and whistles of larger ships for kids. I'd be surprised if we have any kids on our Oct sailing on Serenade. -

I agree with @klaconqueso. The larger ships have a place, but I think they are just starting to look like a hotel was plopped on top of a barge. I still like a ship, that looks like a ship. -
Thanks DocLC! Yes, I do need to watch the sugar content. Since I'll be on the refreshment plan myself, I'll just ask the bartender to whip something up and see what happens. I can always get something else if I don't like it. Gotta love the beverage plans!

I know this is off the beaten path a bit for most, but does anybody have any suggestions for non-alcoholic cocktails on board? I know this goes against most peoples thoughts of cruising, but I don't drink anymore and would enjoy something besides an iced tea or coffee, once in a while. I know you can just leave the alcohol out of some, but then what are left with? A margarita with out the tequila and triple sec is just what, sour mix? No thanks! Thanks

We also will be cruising on Serenade this Oct to Canada and Maine. If you are interested in shore excursions, there are a lot of them on sale now in the Cruise Planner. I rebooked 3 of ours and saved $120. I've found a lot of good suggestions for restaurants and tours on both Yelp and Trip Advisor.

I was told by somebody here, that if you go in and delete your cookies it will help. It's worked for me in the past. Good luck.

Drink packages on Cruise Planner 290 Days Out!
FManke replied to JLMoran's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
I'd say just keep checking. I know that the refreshment package that I booked has been on sale twice since I originally booked mine in Feb for our Oct cruise.- 27 replies

Rebooked 3 shore excursions for Oct cruise on Serenade and saved $120! This is the first time that the shore excursions have gone on sale, since our original booking in Feb. Refreshment package also dropped, but only by $.50 a day since I got it on sale last time. I did not rebook that. I might be a little manic, but not that manic!

I know what you mean! I joined in Feb, have 108 more days to go before our first cruise and this post is 625! -
Quick question. On any of the ships that have a "grab and go" type section, do you have to stop at a "cashier" and have your SeaPass swiped or something? Or do you just grab it and go? Just wondering if they keep track of who's eating what and where for future research.

The only problem with these packages are they are not big enough. My kids would go through the biggest one in about 10min! Especially if they have a crane game!

If you can pay somebody to make sandwiches in bulk, ahead of time, you can pay somebody to make sandwiches to order. Also, it would be worth the wait to have it made fresh. And with the food technology out their now, it wouldn't be a stretch to offer individual sized pizzas, made to order.

Please tell me about Serenade of the seas
FManke replied to cjappert's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
Ok, I was wondering as to how much cruising experience they had. If they've been on a lot of cruises with a lot of "bells and whistles" it's hard to go back. If you know what I mean. When my son was about 10, we went to Dave N Buster's for the first time. And although he was perfectly happy with Chuck E Cheese's before, after that, there was no turning back. Your little ones, I think would be happy, to spend the whole day in the kids pool area, if they are anything like mine were, at that age. -

My guess is that if the Seaview Café was a revenue generating source, it might still be open.

What if you board early and get to the WJ, right when they open?
