That letter reads like it was written by someone unaware that there are now several very effective and widely available vaccines for COVID-19.  We're in a totally different place today than when the CSO was issued.

If the lines sail with fully vaccinated crews and pax, plus the mitigation measures in place, the chance of a COVID outbreak is virtually nil.

    100% agree!!

Newsflash Senators, Americans will be cruising outside the US this summer. Americans will be swarming to Vegas Casinos this summer. Crowds will happen this summer.

But sure, ignore all that and focus on the continued US shutdown of an industry. Ignore the data from the cruises during the pandemic and how many cases there ACTUALLY were.

    Data>Politics

You should rename your title to this topic as these Senators are not urging the CDC to keep cruise industry closed. What they are urging is, and I quote with emphasis, "We urge you to strictly enforce the technical guidance issued under the Framework for Conditional Sailing Order (CSO) to minimize this threat, and take all appropriate steps—including halting cruises as necessary—if outbreaks occur on board."

I heard it on the La Lido Loca youtube channel, but I'm at work right now and won't be able to link the specific video until I get home later the evening.

BTW: my comment was an interesting observation, not a prediction.  You are free to believe that something will happen in July or not.  Either way, we'll find out in a couple months!

Oh I hope cruises happen in July as I have one booked for the July 4th weekend. I'm just tired of waiting patiently and sitting around fearing the growth of "secretary hips", and on a guy that look is not good.???????

It is my understanding that the CDC emergency declaration, which was originally issued in January 2020, must be renewed every 90 days.  It's up for renewal this month, but there's no way it won't be. Therefore, the next extension would be July.

Can you provide a link to the CDC emergency declaration? I believe you are confusing it with the CDC Extends Eviction Moratorium Through End of June.

Update: I found the latest order: https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2020/s0409-modifications-extension-no-sail-ships.html, which I believe you are referring to:

This Order shall continue in operation until the earliest of three situations. First, the expiration of the Secretary of Health and Human Services’ declaration that COVID-19 constitutes a public health emergency.  Second, the CDC Director rescinds or modifies the order based on specific public health or other considerations.  Or third, 100 days from the date of publication in the Federal Register.

Celebrity Millennium out of St. Maarten in June? This is one of those cruises announced in the last few weeks that avoids the US and was specifically excluded from the latest round of cancellations.

So, No, I don't realize it is a bust at this point. Am I missing something?

Ohhhhh.....Leaving out of St. Marteen??? Hmmmm...didn't see that. Thanks!!!!!!

Don't read too much in to this.  I'm scheduled on Celebrity Millennium in June and Adventure in July.  I fully expect both to set sail, but I get the same message when I attempt to access my reservation through the app.

You do realize that your June cruise is a bust at this point?

My apologies if this has already been discussed but I couldn’t find it anywhere. We’ve been to Nassau a few times. Obviously they can handle a bunch of ships visiting for the day, but where exactly will Adventure dock? I’m just trying to envision how they will handle security, luggage, etc. Is there an actual cruise terminal?

Nassau cruise terminal is at Prince George Wharf, located on island's northern coast.

It's a much bigger question than just cruise lines. It's the thought that everything you do in public will be dictated by your having a passport or not. But further discussion outside the scope of cruising isn't necessary for this board.

I'm sure after reading the below article, you will no longer have to worry:

Covid: US rules out federal vaccine passports

The White House has ruled out introducing mandatory federal Covid-19 vaccination passports, saying citizens' privacy and rights should be protected.

Schemes to introduce such passports have been touted around the world as a way to enable safe circulation of people while fighting the pandemic.

But critics say such documents could be discriminatory.

The US said it did not and would not support a "system that requires Americans to carry a credential".

The country has reported more than 550,000 deaths linked to the virus and nearly 31 million cases, the highest numbers in the world, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Addressing reporters, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said there would be no "federal vaccinations database" or a "federal mandate requiring everyone to obtain a single vaccination credential".

"The government is not now, nor will be, supporting a system that requires Americans to carry a credential," she said. "Our interest is very simple from the federal government, which is Americans' privacy and rights should be protected, and so that these systems are not used against people unfairly."

Countries around the world are looking at the introduction of so-called vaccine passports, which would be used to show that a person has been inoculated against Covid-19, as a way of safely reopening mass gatherings and travel.

In England, a "Covid status certification" scheme is being developed to enable concerts and sports matches to take place. It would record whether people had been vaccinated, recently tested negative, or had already had and recovered from Covid-19.

The European Union is also working on plans to introduce certificates, while in Israel a "Green Pass" is already available to anyone who has been fully vaccinated or has recovered from Covid-19, which they have to show to access facilities such as hotels, gyms or theatres.

The World Health Organization on Tuesday said it did not currently support requiring vaccination passports for travel, because of uncertainty over whether inoculation prevents transmission, and discrimination concerns.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden announced on Tuesday that he had brought forward to 19 April the date by which all American adults will be eligible for a Covid vaccine.

"We have to ramp up a whole-of-government approach that rallies the whole country and puts us on a war footing to truly beat this virus," he said.

    privacy and civil liberty concerns

Privacy would not be an issue since HIPPA compliance would need to be adhered to. Inasmuch, the only info and requirement needed would be if the passenger was vaccinated against COVID. As a passenger, you give the cruise line more information about youself than you realized pre-covid.

As for civil liberties concern, which would be privacy, explained above. You protect privacy every day by ensuring that personally identifiable information is appropriately gathered, documented, used, retained, and shared. Generally speaking, personally identifiable information includes data that can be used to identify a specific individual, such as an individual’s name, home address, credit card information or social security number, which cruise lines already have this information as you, the passenger, trusted the cruise line and provided this information to them. Insofar, the concern of privacy is a moot argument.

Final point, if you are on Facebook and/or any message boards including THIS board, you have already disclosed your private information and most do not realize it. Just by reading this, your name and home address is known. Big Brother is always watching.

And so I ask, what is the issue by letting the cruise lines know you have been vaccinated unless you have an ulterior motive or hiding something.
