  1. I would pay for pizza, if it was worth paying for. A deep-dish pizza with tons of cheese and toppings, fresh out of the oven, would be great! Sorrento's, not so much.
  2. I'm going on a cruise in January and my passport expires in May. Just in case, I'm bringing a birth certificate. It is possible that they won't accept my passport since it expires less than six months after the cruise. EDIT: Cruising from Galveston, closed-loop.
  3. The biggest problems I have with the Diamond lounge: 1) Not open early enough. The Cafe Promenade is okay but I want the good stuff. 2) People hogging the good snacks. 3) Location on some ships. I like the lounge on Liberty, it's way up at the top. Sailaway was great there.
  4. I didn't get a survey but if I did I would vote for a planetarium. I sailed on the Queen Mary 2 and it was wonderful! Another thing they had on that cruise was guest lecturers. People who knew what they were talking about, on a wide range of topics. Also, I would not pay for Sorrento's unless they had a pan pizza.
  5. The gas tank on an Oasis-class ship is about 5000 cubic meters. An Olympic-size swimming pool is about 2500 cubic meters. If the reactor takes up about the same space as the engines would, this might open up some possibilities for more bars and restaurants. Hooray! The LNG tanks on Icon weigh 300 tons each and are 90 feet long. Just think of what you could do with the extra space! Icon of the Seas Construction Update: LNG Fuel Tank Installation | Royal Caribbean Press Center The problem I see is the difference in lifespan between the reactor and the rest of the ship. The USS Nimitz is fifty years old. Plus:
  6. Nah. You just ordered one dessert. I always order three appetizers, one entree, and three desserts. No one seems surprised. I'm sure the waitstaff has seen everything.
  7. The Key may have more value on shorter cruises, as some of the benefits are at the beginning and end of the cruise. Xaa had a really good take on it. Take the cost of the key and subtract the cost of a single two-device Internet package, or two one-device packages if you are Waaaytooo. Then figure out what you think each benefit is worth and add them up. This will be different for everyone. Here's a list of the benefits, minus the Internet package: Priority access during The Key designated arrival time (to be communicated via email). Other benefits may apply at specific ports.* Carry-on bag drop off with delivery to your stateroom. ** Exclusive welcome lunch in the Main Dining Room featuring The Key signature menu.*** Access to the fast lane at onboard activities (activities vary by ship)and private time at the Flowrider. Priority departure at tender ports of call from ship-to-shore. Dedicated seating at shows in the Main Theater, Aqua Theater, Studio B, and Two70.**** On debarkation day, enjoy an exclusive á la carte breakfast and choice departure What is each of these worth to you? Matt has posted on multiple occasions that the sum total of the benefits are not worth the cost, especially since the Key costs $35.99 when it is on sale. For able-bodied suite guests, I would say that the choice is clear to not get The Key. For someone who doesn't need an Internet package or who needs two or more devices per person, don't get the Key. If you are on a short cruise and are disabled and need one Internet package per person, get it if the price is right.
  8. Are prices going up on other cruise lines? Asking for a friend.
  9. I have a strong preference for East to West. If you like sea days and are cheap, like me you'll love the transatlantic cruises!
  10. I recently booked my first Princess cruise, out of Galveston, sailing next November. I bought the Princess Plus package before this was announced. Since I would buy the Internet package and gratuities, I figured that all the benefits (drink package and everything else) would cost maybe $35 pppd. I think that's very reasonable for a drink package alone, even better for all the other stuff you get with the Plus package. The new stuff is just extra.
  11. Congratulations on landing that assignment. I would guess that a lot of people applied for transfers to Icon.
  12. Keep in mind that on most ships (prior to Oasis-class) there is no USB or power outlet at the head of the bed. Power extension cords are forbidden, so if you have a USB powered fan you could run a long USB cord over to the desk. I did a quick search and maybe you could use what is called a "stroller fan". Battery-powered and rechargeable.
  13. Might as well add two feet to make it an even 1200. I wonder what the upper limit is on length and width of ships, for the infrastructure, piers and terminals and such. If the new train restaurant on Utopia is a hit, maybe they'll add that to Icon 2. They could even make a space travel restaurant, a sort of "Restaurant at the End of the Universe". Waitstaff could dress up in space suits or alien costumes. It would be fun. Carnival is putting their latest and biggest ship in Galveston, so it makes even more sense for Royal to do the same.
  14. The width of the corridors and the placement of the elevators, to start. Compared to a larger ship, the corridors on Radiance are very narrow. The elevators in the Centrum area are arranged five in a row. For someone who is disabled, like Mrs. Cake, it's impossible to get to some of the elevators before it closes. The bathroom in my cabin had a shower curtain in the shower instead of the clamshell door. It took me a week to figure out how to get the shower curtain to work right. Maybe that is something that can be fixed, but I don't really know what goes into amplification besides changing some of the restaurants.
  15. 7147 has an asterisk on the floor plan. I think CrznTxn is correct about the asterisk rooms. Thanks for the info!
  16. I think the Amped Voyager-class ships have a lot of mileage left on them. IMO they need to replace some of the smaller ships, like the Vision class, with something "small" (for RCCL) but modern. Maybe that is Project Discovery. Can they make a small ship that is as profitable as a jumbo ship? I was on Radiance this year and the ship has flaws that can't be fixed with amplification.
  17. Hello, Here's a snapshot of the deck plan of Deck 7 on Allure: It looks like the 3V and 4V cabins have the same color! How are we supposed to tell them apart? It matters because I believe the 4V cabins have the head of the bed along the side of the room and the 3V cabins have the head of the bed at the back of the room. This would not apply to earlier classes of ships as I am pretty sure all interior cabins on Freedom-class ships and below have the head of the bed along the back of the room.
  18. Thank you! A couple of comments: 1) I think all ships have been converted to Starlink. 2) Maybe include ship class data, tonnage, passengers, etc., when the class is clicked inside the grid. Clicking on the header should sort by ship class as it does now. 3) I think the older ship deployment link is messed up. 4) Make the explanations of "app features" match. I still don't know what you mean by x-ray vision. And I have never seen some of those things on the RCL phone app. Great stuff!
  19. Thanks for the info. The reason I ask is that I am confused on which categories of interior rooms have the head of the bed along the wall and which categories have the head of the bed along the back of the room. On all the classes of ships I've been on, interior rooms have had the head of the bed along the back wall. I haven't sailed on an Oasis-class ship yet, and I think Mrs. Cake will like the side orientation better.
  20. Thank you for creating this thread. Is your bed oriented along the rear of the cabin or along one side? Do you know what kind of interior cabin you have?
  21. Rackham posted this link in another thread. https://cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-ship-orderbook/ It shows Icon 2 and 3 planned for '25 and '26. Once Icon starts sailing next year, they'll make a decision what to build next. Seems to me like they should just amplify Liberty, Allure, and maybe the smaller ships, but maybe they will do that once some of the Covid debt is paid off.
  22. This is discussed regularly. Matt's opinion is in wordell1's link above, and here is a discussion link, hopefully it works: The Key - Royal Caribbean Discussion - Royal Caribbean Blog
  23. I thought it was going to be Star and Joy, short names like Icon so they can paint the name in ginormous letters.
