  1. I wish I could take full credit for the idea. However, several years ago I met a sweet lady in the nursing home my mom is in but she couldn’t speak or use her hands. I would help her out during lunch times and I just felt that she was such a wonderful person. She passed away a couple of years ago and when I read her obituary I found out just how wonderful she was! Her story included a piece about the trips she had taken with her grandchildren…one at a time. That was it…I made the decision right then and there that I needed to do something like that with mine. And so it began…….. I will say after having finished just the first of five trips I am sooo grateful to little Nancy who touched my . Oh and grateful to my husband for allowing me to do this !
  2. Hope the weather holds out for you! Pretty humid out…for sure! Funny, I live less than an hour from Boston and rarely ever go there now. In my younger years, I loved going to Faneuil Hall Marketplace and visiting the Aquarium with my kids.
  3. I’m hoping someone (or more) on this blog is from San Antonio as I’m looking for a few tips. This year I began a “Grandma/Grandchild memory trip” and since I have 5 grandchildren that means 5 trips will happen. I started with the oldest, Gia (15) and let her choose what she wanted to do. She chose Portland, Oregon so we spent 5 days there in April visiting waterfalls, hiking in a few awesome areas, and even drove to Cannon Beach…which was AMAZING! I used Viator for a couple of our tours and we were quite pleased! She keeps telling me how awesome the trip was and I am now in the process of making a memory book for her. OK that brings me to my next grandchild! Chloe (she will be 15 when we travel in February) has chosen San Antonio, Texas! Lol her main reason is steak! She LOVES steak! . So I have our airfare booked (very reasonable on SWA from PVD to SAT!) and I am now trying to find a decent hotel on the Riverwalk…any help will do. I also booked a Viator tour which includes a River cruise, 24 hour hop on hop off bus with 18 stops, and tickets to the Tower of Americas. I bought tickets to attend the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo (she is soooo excited)! I’m renting a car and would love to find a place to take her horseback riding (simple trail walking would be great). Oh, the Alamo is also on our list! How does that sound so far? So…I’m hoping for some help on choosing a hotel…some really good restaurants for us to check out…and horseback riding place maybe with an hour’s drive of the Riverwalk. I’ve spent hours online looking up things and a few recommended restaurants are Boudro’s on the Riverwalk and Saltgrass Steak House? I know there are plenty of Mexican restaurants and she loves that food too so recommendations? Thanks for any help anyone can provide. She and I are really looking forward to this memory vacation!
  4. Adventure is Voyager class…not Freedom class, so is smaller. No Sorrento pizza…gotta get pizza from Cafe Promenade. There is less of everything IMO. Lots of “crappy” smells walking down some of the corridors last August when I was on Adventure. There are some great itineraries out there which I would love to explore BUT I need to have a decent ship before I pick the itinerary so guess I lose out. Freedom class is the smallest class I will choose at this point in my cruising life. I started cruising late in life due to my husband always afraid of motion sickness (he gets sick in a car if he isn’t driving or at least front seat). He can’t do amusement rides…nothing. We took our kids on tons of vacations but never a cruise! But when I won my 2018 Brilliance cruise I insisted he come…he wore the Scopolamine patch and was fine. From that point on…cruising is what I want to do. Still a struggle to get him to agree but you know what?…at 67 I’m planning whatever I can for the next few years! Never know what life has in store….. Sorry I digressed a bit…sometimes I just have to vent!
  5. I love the black case…and you have probably talked about it before but…please tell me what brand it is. I have something similar but certainly not as sturdy as that one looks to be. Thanks!
  6. You can request a fan from housekeeping. Two of the 7 rooms we had on our last cruise were warmer than usual. The requested fans were delivered ASAP and worked very well! The fans were pretty big .
  7. Not necessarily entrees one at a time. We were on Oasis a few weeks ago and several of us ordered two or three entrees. The first night they came out separately but after that for the rest of the week all entrees came out at same time.
  8. Bingo is fun…IF you get the chance to play! The room typically fills up so quickly…and way ahead of the actual game time.
  9. I’ll be on Indy in November. How is the chicken at Fish ‘n Ships? I understand the smaller snack items are now free…which is nice. Did you check out Grease in the main theater? Haven’t seen any recent reviews…. Thanks for answering
  10. Any ship that offers popcorn charges for it. Why keep bringing it up? Seriously this entire topic needs to end at this point.
  11. Traveling with others is always the reason I won’t try for RU! Sad because I would love just trying to get a bid in but when you’re with a group of people and rooms are all together it doesn’t make sense to “move on up” alone!
  12. I live in Rhode Island and have been to Boston and Portland but not Bar Harbor or any Nova Scotia towns. So I will be following this blog for insightful feedback to help with future cruise choices!
  13. I will always fly into FLL over Miami! In fact, that is what we are doing for our November Indy cruise. We will be staying in Miami though…always gotta get my Bayside Marketplace “fix”!
  14. We were on Oasis a few weeks ago and I wanted the perfect spot for my grandkids as this was their first cruise ever. So we ended up on deck 16 Starboard side (after seeing the Statue of Liberty on Port side) close to the front. It was a great spot and they enjoyed the view completely!
  15. Not sure on a table for 11. We had 17 (12 adults and 5 kids/teens) and I requested 2 tables…one for 9 and one for 8. The table for 9 was a long rectangular table and very likely could have accommodated 2 more. We were on the Oasis and I would assume all dining rooms generally are similar. Best you can do is put that in your email. Doesn’t sound like an unreasonable request. Hope it works out for you!
  16. You can link the other 3 reservations to yours and then about a month before your cruise send an email to: [email protected] to request a table for 8. On the subject line provide the ship name and sailing date. In your message…provide the 4 reservation numbers and stateroom numbers and passenger names. Also note the dining time you all chose. Enjoy!
  17. Just got off Oasis 10 days ago. My husband actually tested positive 4 days later. Was not aware of any outbreaks while on board but seems COVID is sort of like the common cold now so it’s not going anywhere and if you get it you get it. There were 17 of us on the cruise and he is the only one who ended up with it. Back in May we sailed with friends on Norwegian Prima and I ended up with COVID 2 days later! No one else…just me! And just as another piece of info…neither myself nor my husband isolated from the other one!
  18. A group of us just cruised on Oasis a few weeks ago and one of the passports expires in 2 months. She had no issue at all…no one questioned it or wanted further certification.
  19. When I use the App on my phone I click the person icon and do the check in that way. When you click check-in at the bottom of the app it sometimes does not work right away.
  20. Definitely check into the cost of the Uber or Lyft from the port terminal to Penn Station. Total cost is $210 to park at the port for one week. Honestly if it’s only a couple of hours drive time it just might be better to do that. Walk off ship, get into your own car, drive away. No hassles!
  21. Agreeing with answers above. No birth certificate needed when using a passport. I take as little paperwork as possible. Passport plus boarding pass…perfect!
  22. I just got off Oasis a week ago. There were 17 of us and we drove in 4 vehicles from RI. Took 3 hours 20 minutes which was not bad for a Friday morning! Parked in the lot directly across from the terminal…so easy. Last summer I cruised from Bayonne to Bermuda on Adventure and was lucky enough to get a spot in the garage. This time they were only allowing handicapped into the garage…but I would assume they later opened it up to anyone. Enjoy your cruise!
  23. I have repriced many times but always before final payment due date. Savings for me has been quite substantial and I always call to do it…while I have the website open in order to explain to the service rep exactly what I am requesting.
