Grand Cayman at a crossroads over cruise traffic
WAAAYTOOO replied to smokeybandit's topic in Royal Caribbean News and Rumors
We were very recently at GC and on that cruise the only bar open while in port was the pool bar. -
I prefer Giovanni’s to Jamie’s. I prefer the Table to the Kitchen.

I don’t find the status match from Pinn to Zenith to be all that great. Yes, you get the drink package. But you lose specialty breakfast, access to the suites lounge (conditional) and BOGO specialty dining. The drink pkg is entirely useless to me. I don’t even use the 6 daily drink vouchers. To be fair, we haven’t tried X yet so maybe I will think the match is the greatest if we ever do.

Denied shore excursion because of my age
WAAAYTOOO replied to Richard Scheid's topic in Shore Excursions
The only excursion type that I am aware of where I would be excluded due to age, is SCUBA diving. So far, at least, I haven't been excluded due to age for any other excursion type. It seems to be fairly universal that SCUBA is limited to 64 and younger. I know my limitations though....I am too old for SCUBA anymore. Sad, but true. It's a LOT of work -
S2B2B from Seattle (Anthem) to Vancouver (Radiance)
WAAAYTOOO replied to WAAAYTOOO's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
Alas, it's not listed. There are only a very few excursions listed for Colon...and this one isn't one of them. There is one called Eight (sic) Wonder of the World but it's sold out. Not sure if that's the same one you've booked or not. I will keep checking. -

Thanks, @twangster ! You couldn't hijack a thread if you TRIED ! Your input and recommendations are always, always, always welcome. I will see if this one is still available for our transit. -

For reasons that I don't understand I think it's just not offered for my sailing All of the other excursions that are sold out are showing as sold out at the bottom of the page. I just don't think they're offering it. I wasn't sure how to search for it outside of the CP. I guess I can give that a whirl. -

I’m still trying to find the VIP White Pass Railway excursion if anyone has any ideas. None of the White Pass excursions being offered seem to indicate that they offer the VIP option. Is there somewhere else I should be looking ? We’re doing a whale watcher in Juneau and the Best of Sitka…but still need something for Skagway. Haven't even thought about what to do on the Panama Canal leg yet…that one scares me every time I open it up in the Cruise Planner. Taking @DDaley’s advice and doing Alcatraz and Sausalito excursion. The one and only time I was ever in SF (as an adult) I went to Sausalito and looked back across the Bay to SF and thought it was the most beautiful place I had ever seen. I wonder if it still will be…. -

This ended up being the best option. It wasn’t easy to do, but we got it done, finally ! -

Update. We FINALLY received permission to disembark Anthem a day early, in Victoria. It took nearly 3 months and significant umph from the RCI Executive offices ! So our problem has been resolved. Complicated still…as we still have to make our way from Victoria to Vancouver (ferry) but at least we have a full day and night to do it now instead of having to get from Seattle to Vancouver the same day ! As of today, there doesn’t appear to be any special entry paperwork (other than our written permission)…no special visas or anything but with the whirlwind political situation, who knows if that will continue to be the case. I’ll just have to keep my eye on it. -

Does this new program include gratuities ? I can't remember if the summary of the benefits included them or not. -

Wow ! What an incredible suite. -
That California one is the only one we have, too.

Nothing for us but that’s nothing new
-
Ok. Confirmed. Leo is in the CL and Aiza is in the SL…at least on this sailing. No telling what will happen going forward.
-
The Suites Concierge is a lady and there is a guy in the CL but I don’t know if that’s Leo or not. Ashamed that I don’t know their names…
-
Yes. We’re on FR now and someone (can’t recall who but I think it was the Suites Concierge) mentioned that our cruise (Apr 26) was the last one from FLL and that the ship would be moving down to MIA after we disembark (tomorrow) to start doing 3/4 night itineraries. [Ugh]. She mentioned how much the crew HATES the shorties.

Enterprise one-way rentals, Orlando to Port Canaveral
WAAAYTOOO replied to smokeybandit's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
Wow...that would be a BIG bummer. That has always been one of the biggest advantages of renting in FL...no one way charges. If they've changed this it would be a big disappointment. -

Believe it or not, I was not a sushi lover back in the beginning, either. I love shrimp but I just couldn't get myself to try "raw" fish. It turns out that the shrimp is completely cooked....so it's not raw at all. Some of the other fish is, so you just have to choose well. The best advice I ever give ANYone who wants to try Izumi, but doesn't want "raw" fish is....get one or 2 of the shrimp rolls (there are about 3 to choose from). You will get fried shrimp and nothing raw. Also...and this is a BIG one....ask for SOY wrappers rather than nori (seaweed). I think the seaweed wrappers taste like as*. I can't stand them...but the soy wrappers are basically tasteless. You will end up with a nice shrimp-filled roll and lots of rice with some kind of veggie (usually a skinny piece of asparagus or maybe a tiny piece of avocado) and that's about it. Once you get a roll that you like, you can venture out and try some of the others. I like all of the shrimp rolls and I've even gotten to where I will eat the spicy tuna roll, which DOES have a piece of "raw" tuna on top. You get braver as you try new things. If you really don't want ANY of the rolls, there are plenty of other things to try...they have beef or chicken teriyaki bowls (Dan loves these) and there is a nice appetizer that is all fried (my weakness !) called shrimp and vegetable tempura which is my go-to appetizer. The shrimp and pork wonton soup is also very good. Bottom line....there is a LOT to choose from besides raw fish. The lunch and dinner menus are identical so you will have lots to choose from. Be careful with the wasabi ! -
IMO the onion rings at JR canNOT compete with the onion rings at Playmakers. PM are much, much batter (see what I did there ??)
