  1. I live in Houston and have sailed Liberty twice.  It's my favorite ship.

Since you're coming from DFW, why don't you just drive to the port? It sounds a lot simpler than flying.

As far as hotels, have you considered the Boardwalk Hotel in Kemah? It's an interesting location with amusements, restaurants, shopping and a midway with a simple 30 minute drive to Galveston.  Just take S.H. 146 south until you're on the Galveston causeway.

  2. I did 4 in the cheapest interior room that we could find on Radiance of the Seas in 2006.  It was my wife and I and two kids age 10 & 12.

    Sleeping was no problem.

Using all of the tricks, like storing luggage under the bed, we were able to have some space.

The bathroom took some coordination, but we got along just fine.

The biggest problem was that the other 6 people in our party that were also staying in interior rooms would come to our room and hang out.  That was VERY cozy!

My kids still remember that as one of their favorite vacations.

If you are flying into Hobby, I don't recommend staying near the airport. It's a rough part of town with a limited number of places for dinner. If you can't get a room on the island, try the Clear Lake/League City/Webster area. It's about halfway between the airport and the island. It's a nice area with lots of options for dinner and even shopping if need be. If you fly into IAH, staying by the airport is fine. With all that being said, Steve is correct that you should be fine in relation to Spring Break. The majority of schools and colleges will be on break either the week of 3/9-3/13 or 3/16-3/20 with the bulk being that first week. There may be some springbreakers on the island when you sail, but the big crowds will have cleared out by then.

Thanks for the post.  I'm not sure I'd recommend staying near either airport.  After all, there is a reason that Greenspoint mall, located near IAH, is referred to as "Gunspoint Mall."

Your suggestion of staying on the island or in the Clear Lake/League City/Webster area both have merit.  Just off of Clear Lake itself, there's a little town called Kemah with a great boardwalk, amusements, restaurants and hotels.  It is a straight shot down start highway 146 to Galveston too.

I can't wait to find out when. I don't think construction has started on the new port yet.

I took the ferry boat out of Galveston last weekend. It goes close to pier 10, which will be the new terminal.  While nothing is visible from Harborside drive, from the ferry you can see several cranes erected on the pier and there is some dredging at the turning basin.

I don't know if this represents the start of preparations or if it is just normal maintenance for the port.

    Hi Everyone,

Just a little tidbit about a tour from Galvenston to the Houston Space Center, found on the Royal Caribbean App that there is a tour on de-embarkation day that allows transportation from Pier to Space centre and then to Houston International airport.  This is only on the app for some reason its not in your cruise planner to book. You have to phone Royal Caribbean directly to book.  Fingers crossed that this tour will go on November 3rd, as our last one for Port Canaveral in January got cancelled.

Be careful about the airport! Houston has 2 international airports.

Houston Hobby (Formerly Houston International Airport) is the closest (about 35 miles from the port) and has been in existence since the beginning of time. Southwest is the dominant airline

Bush Intercontinental Airport (Frequently mistaken as Houston International Airport) is nearly 70 miles from the port and is much larger. United is the dominant airline. Most international airlines use this airport.
