  1. Good point. I guess I overstated it, but here goes. My concern is Royal will enjoy the good times a little too much and allow their costs to get out of control. If that happened and demand decreased, then Royal may not be able to repay the massive debt. That would be bad for everyone.
  2. I'm thrilled the Royal is doing so well. But I'm also concerned we might still be seeing hangover demand from covid times. It's a truism that the longer demand holds, the more likely it is permanent. As far as increased prices, I still think the value is there, especially if you book as soon as itineraries are released. However, I certainly understand that some people are priced out
  3. Wow. I've never received such an email. Instead, I've always had to look on the website. One quick hint. When I download the pdf of the tags, I can open them in a browser and add our names in the blank. That way, the names are clearly legible when printed.
  4. Is it? It's not a theme park or intellectual property. As a business, it's much smaller than television, which is clearly for sale.
  5. Recently, Bob Iger of Diney stated that he would consider selling the TV businesses because they aren't core to Disney's business. Does anyone think they will sell DCL based on the same logic? If so, hondo you think would buy it?
  6. I watched Don's Family Vacations on YouTube last night. He reported on a Transpacific cruise that was still requiring COVID vaccine cards and tests. Is this still a thing in Australia or was that cruise a one off?
  7. I watched Don's Family Vacations on YouTube last night. I was surprised when he mentioned a transpacific cruise to Australia was still requiring Covid cards and tests. He seemed surprised as well. It's been almost a year since I've needed such things.
  8. I think it depends somewhat on the weather. I was on an Alaska cruise in late June. Weather was 50 degrees and rainy. Allowing the kids in for a few hours made a lot of sense. I was on another Alaska cruise in early June. Temps were in the high 80s with sun. Letting kids in was unnecessary, but how should Royal know in advance about this?

  10. I was on an Alaska cruise in 2006 and it was open to families for limited hours. Even though it was very cold on that cruise, the pool was not overrun with kids during those hours.
  11. I can confirm as I just drove by. The sign bridge is complete and all lanes are open.
  12. I was booked on the same Voyage, except I was starting in Australia. As @twangster mentions, everything was fine with that since I started in a foreign country. However, I did receive the email from Royal explaining that this journey would not be possible if I started in Honolulu. Based on this, I don't think Royal can accommodate your desired itinerary. Perhaps you could sail from Honolulu to Vancouver and then change to another ship in Vancouver or Seattle for the Alaska sailing. Regardless, congratulations and I hope you have a wonderful trip!
  13. I think you're set. It's possible to overthink and overplan. Take a deep breath and enjoy!
  14. I'm not sure exactly what this will mean, or what changes will come, but suddenly my 2024 cruise looks dicey. Amsterdam to Bar Cruise Ships From Central Terminal - The New York Times (nytimes.com)
  15. I'll go out on a limb and say 6 cm longer. 1 cm wider. That will make her the largest in the world.
  16. That's the exact opposite of my experience. I had a connection in Miami that was cancelled after spending 4 hours on the plane. American Airlines said the next flight I could get was on Wednesday, and since there were no hotels available, I should just sleep in the airport. Since this was currently a Sunday, that was a huge problem. I called Air2Sea and they put me up in a hotel at their expense and got me on the first flight out in the morning. On another cruise, my son forgot his COVID card and realized it when he got the airport. There was no way to get it before the flight departed. There were no other published flights between Birmingham AL and San Juan PR before the ship departs. Air2Sea pieced together a flight the next morning that arrived in San Juan 2 hours before the ship departed. It was a horrible flight, but it worked and saved his cruise.
  17. I just passed the sign again and looked at it a bit more carefully. It said "Freeway Closed 7/22/2023 6am to 7/23/2023 1pm." I also noticed that a crane has been assembled near the sign bridge supports, so I really do think they will perform this work as threatened. If they really are installing the bridge, the supports are on either side of the freeway. The freeway is at least 10 lanes wide, so I estimate about 175 feet of bridge to install. This will take quite a while to complete and will require an entire freeway closure. However, I expect the feeder roads to remain open. The good news is they usually finish this type of work early, so it might be fully open on Sunday morning. Or maybe not. Be sure to check Google maps.
  18. Wow! They're ahead of schedule! LOL! In comparison, Cabeza de Vaca was shipwrecked in Galveston in November 1528. He marched his men inland. When they reached Dickinson Bayou they dropped a tree across to ford the river. Once across, de Vaca announced "We must improve this route!" I-45 has been under construction ever since.
  19. According to the sign, it will be the main lanes of the freeway and will cover all day both days. The sign was after the HOV ends. That being said, is very common for TxDOT to deploy these signs and then fail to actually close the road. Therefore, it is hard to say if it will really happen or not. If I find out anything further, I will update this thread.
  20. For those of you travelling to/from Galveston this weekend, please note this thread https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/boards/index.php?/topic/42045-traffic-warning-i-45-scheduled-to-be-closed-this-weekend/
  21. I was just travelling down I-45 at NASA Road 1 in Webster. There's a construction sign that says the freeway will be closed July 22 & 23. It didn't say why nor did it say exactly where, but it appears they will install a sign bridge covering both directions just south of the NASA 1 exit. My usual alternate, State Highway 146 might not help much. That road is down to 1 lane northbound. Southbound isn't too bad though and makes a good alternate for people going Galveston from Bush airport or driving in from out of town. For people going northbound from Galveston, check Google maps. You'll probably want to exit the freeway near FM 646 or State Highway 96. Turn right and proceed to State Highway 3. Turn left and proceed to the NASA 1 bypass (this is a decent sized freeway with traffic lights). Once on NASA 1 bypass, you'll immediately see a ramp to I45 north.
  22. When I purchased mine, Allianz allowed a 30 day window to purchase. So, a start date of September 9 should be available August 10 or 11.
  23. Sorry, I should have read it more carefully. I don't know about checking your bags straight through, but I wouldn't be surprised if you can. Either way, the local, free shuttle will transport you and your bags if necessary directly to the ship. Since it is the next stop on their circuit, it should be an easy connection.
