  1. If you have a Grand suite or higher, the Concierge will email you the week before you leave. You can give them your requests and they will make the reservations for you. The only time Coastal Kitchen would be a problem is for dinner and you can tell them the times and days you want. I thought that it was also possible to make reservations yourself but according to Twangster, I was wrong. It might be a good idea to make the specialty restaurant reservations in advance yourself though since they will be cheaper and could fill up.
  2. Does anyone know how far in advance you can book your dinner reservations for Coastal Kitchen in the cruise planner? Thanks.
  3. I also have TSA precheck.
  4. Thank you. Any thoughts on flying the Tuesday afternoon before Thanksgiving?
  5. Actually, the flights aren't too expensive. I was more concerned with crowds and flight problems.
  6. I usually cruise off season. I'm looking at a cruise that leaves Wednesday the day before Thanksgiving and returns Monday after Thanksgiving. I could fly out Tuesday afternoon and fly home the Monday the ship returns. I know this is a very busy travel period and so I am very reluctant to book it. I would be coming from Phoenix and sailing out of Galveston. Any advice would be appreciated.
  7. Steam room and sauna are still there but not very fancy. It's nothing you would pay extra for.
  8. It was probably one of the factors involved in the new port in Galveston. I think that some of their future Perfect Day locations will be in range of Galveston also.
  9. I'll bet one winds up in Galveston since they have the infrastructure. An Oasis class and Icon class would sure make that a key port.
  10. That kind of poor emotion and impulse control could easily escalate. People in such situations can only be judged by their appearance and actions. It shouldn't be the responsibility of others to determine what level of threat they might be.
  11. I have been on many cruises and have seen many people that could have been kicked off and weren't. I could only imagine what really happened. I also think that there are cameras, both on some employees and around the ship so I wonder if the captain didn't actually have video to evaluate.
  12. I would agree with the above. I would love to be able to drive to the port. Flying has become such a hassle. I go for the ships and would gladly sail from LA or San Diego. When Royal left California, their main reason was that it was difficult to fill ships, Mariner at the time, and it was not profitable. Also they used the other reasons I previously mentioned.
  13. Actually, in 2011 we were on Carnival because we didn't want to fly. Carnival was not for us and so we have been flying to Texas or Florida since. I believe Royal left California in 2010.
  14. We used to go out of LA. Back around 2011 there were lots of problems in Mexico, in fact, I think several crew members were kidnapped. Our last trip, we spent two nights in Cabo and skipped Mazatlan altogether. I also have heard that they were having a lot of problems with the state of California and the dock workers. I don't know those particulars.

  16. Here is an honest consideration. After you've had a JS, it can be hard to go back to a regular balcony. We started with ocean view rooms and after having a balcony, we never went back. Just something to think about.
  17. I have Verizon and they have wifi calling and texting but I think i had to activate it on my phone. There is no additional charge. You can only use one device at a time for each device you pay for. You can switch devices but again, you can only use one at a time.
  18. Have a special dinner. We always enjoy Giovanni's.
  19. I believe it has to do with the state you live in. Some states have licenses that you can use for domestic flights. Others do not qualify and you will need a passport or passport card. I thin the changes are a little later than 2020 but I'm not sure when.
  20. One other point. Everyone has grievances and what may seem petty to me might be a very big deal to someone else. I suggest you actually go to someone that can do something about it.
  21. I will try to clarify my point. There is nothing wrong with complaining. There is nothing wrong with having different opinions. That is not what I'm talking about. Read the first post. It's someone ranting and carrying on like a child having a temper tantrum. Maybe others find this constructive and helpful but I don't see how it is. I see the irony in that if I address this, I am in a way just complaining about their complaining so I'm not sure how to handle it. I assume most people here are seasoned cruisers. It would surprise me if they had not seen people verbally abusing staff and sometimes other cruisers for petty grievances. From what I've seen these tend to be the same people over and over. That's why ask " if you are so unhappy, why don't you find something you enjoy more". My intention is to go on a cruise and enjoy myself. It's not to see people have melt downs because they weren't the first on the ship. People love to talk about the old days and how everything was so much better. I'm not sure how true that is but people did seem friendlier and nicer to one and other. That to me would improve everyone's cruise. That's just my opinion for whatever it's worth.
