  1. I apologize in advance for this warning.  But I have to say something

My brother in law went on a recent cruise out of Miami on Freedom of the Seas, returned to port on Jan 14 to fly back home "Canada"

Paid for 4 Rapid PCR "RT-PCR" tests to satisfy the Canadian Gov requirement to fly back home.  He stressed before the purchase they required PCR tests to fly back home"

Once they received their results, his wife tested positive for Covid and they wouldn't do a retest, the wrong test kit was used to determine the results, they used Antigen test method. They were then in touch with the Florida Health Dept to work out the plan for quarantine procedures.    Again He and both kids received the RT-PCR test, his wife received the Antigen test even though they paid for 4 RT-PCR tests.

My brother in Law had to go back home, he wanted to bring his kids with him. Florida Health with the CDC guidelines denied his 11yr & 16yr to fly back home.

11yr old only received 1 shot - tested negative, was told has to stay with mother to quarantine

16yr received both shots, but 6 months has passed since the last shot, she also couldn't leave.

He was on the phone several times with Nomi Health to find out why they had used the wrong testing method.  They apologized and advised them to get retested after the quarantine.

So quarantine was over, they scheduled their test and flight to go back home.

All tested NEGATIVE..     IT WAS A FREGGIN FALSE POSITIVE.  if she would have received the correct testing method from the start ????

They later found out locally and via family in Florida, this is not the only case.  There has been many cases like this specially coming from Miami  Airport.

I know that once my wife and reach Diamond we will no longer be purchasing a drink package for her. 8 drinks between the two of us is more than she will drink in a day including specialty coffees.

I can't wait to hit Diamond as well,  My wife doesn't drink so that defeats to purpose on buying the package. I usually drink no more than 2 drinks per day..   So Diamond status will be more than enough.

I'll counter the above. Had household family members with Omicron. Applied simple measures like wearing a mask in common areas, washing hands regularly. Guess what? Didn't get it. Simple measures like this work..maybe not 100% of the time but they do help.

Also, masks don't just stop someone spitting on you, they also prevent you from touching your nose and mouth (which we do more often than we realise) after touching an infected surface.

Anyways, back to cruising. 2 years this week since the ship ban. Life sucks in Australia.

I will counter that, My brother-in-law entire family (Wife, 2 daughters & son) got covid just after the holidays.   It started with my nephew, then my brother-in-law, then his wife, then both girls.   they wore masks throughout the ordeal, washed hands and daily house cleaning & laundry. Infected family quarantined away from family members.

They are ok now...all got their tests to show proof for positive results, followed the Canadian guidelines/procedures.

    Not sure I'm understanding.

Why doesn't your brother need to quarantine? But his kids do?

Why 11 days for his wife? Isn't 10 days the standard now?

What's 6 months ago have to do with the older one receiving her vaccine?

Why would that stop them from going on their cruise?

How does Symphony, Rhapsody and Freedom fit into this?

My Brother received is 3rd dose "Booster" in Mid-Dec. Based on that he was cleared to travel if he needed to go back.

The agent advised us the required time to Quarantine for his wife.

the 6 months time frame is in the CDC guidelines.  the agent sent him the CDC explanation as justification.

How does Symphony, Rhapsody and Freedom fit into this?  this was an observation. he said as Freedom was leaving (4:30PM??) CoCo Cay for Miami, he noticed Symphony & Rhapsody pulling in to dock.   Now I'm trying to figure out why those 2 ships were docking?  Maybe supplies? Change of crew? no clue

  5. My brother and his family rencently went on a cruise.

my sister-in-law tested positive for covid at the airport. My brother and his 2 daughters tested negative.

They received a call from dept of Health Florida and requested vaccine proof for all familly members.

His wife has to quarantine for 11 days.

10yr old only received  her 1st shot so she counts as not vaxed. They said she has to stay in the U.S to quarantine for 5 days.

16yr old had her 2nd shot in July 2021. She is also to quarantine in the U.S for 5 days as it has been more than 6 months since her 2nd shot.  The agent emailed my brother the cdc guidance concerning the 6 month thing.

My brother was the only one that was allowed to returned.

If he would have known about the 6 month thing, they would have never left for a cruise vacation.

Good thing we have familly in Lake Placid FL

He also mentioned both Symphony and Rhapsody of the seas were getting ready to dock at CoCo Cay when Freedom was leaving to sail back to Miami

The point is that the Canadian government requires a PCR to enter (in addition to the one we are supposedly going to take on arrival) to avoid quarantine, but we can enter the U.S. and get on board a ship with an antigen. Big difference in price. Royal can't keep footing the bill forever.

If you are selected for Arrival testing in Canada,  It's free..

Don't blame Royal - this is the price of your government "protecting" you.

Sorry????    I honestly don't understand your comment.                      I don't know what the reasoning behind RCL's decision to stop offering the PCR testing to return home.  But I'm pretty sure it's not our beloved Canadian federal government asking RCL to stop offering free tests for Canadians to return home

I’m a little worried about testing at the port after watching a recent video on you tube where the port testing for debarkation was in the middle of the parking lot and everyone was testing positive. This person saw what was happening and left the lineup and went to a private clinic where he tested negative.

i think I will use testing facility at the airport although it adds about $400CAD to the vacation for my wife and I

At both facilities, there is no age requirement but patients under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Discounts for MIA employees who present an airport ID are available. Test costs range from $79 to $179.

The Central Terminal facility, operated by Communitel and Family Rehab, Inc. and located at MIA’s Concourse E ground level median in front of Door 11,provides Antigen and Rapid PCR tests with results within 15 minutes and PCR tests with results within 40 minutes. The facility is open daily 24 hours a day for walk-ins and scheduled appointments. For testing costs or to schedule an appointment, call 305-869-1161. Customers will receive a written test result, or results can be emailed upon request.

MIA’s South Terminal testing facility, operated by Nomi Health and located near the Concourse H TSA Checkpoint on the departures level at Door 20,provides Antigen, PCR, and Rapid PCR tests daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. for walk-ins and scheduled appointments. PCR test results are provided within 24 hours, Rapid PCR test results within one hour with an oral swab, and Antigen results are available within 15 minutes. Notifications and results are provided to customers via text and/or email. For testing costs or to schedule an appointment, visit the Nomi Health website or call (305) 280-0694toll free at (833) 685-0700.
