rjac
So, this afternoon I was looking at http://www.portbermudawebcam.com/. Really neat website with links to pretty much all of the ports that RC cruise ships visits. And this site is free! Heard about here on this message board, but I don't remember who posted it. It was a hoot watching the Allure leave Port Everglades yesterday especially when there was a commercial vessel taking on water right in the middle of the channel right where the Allure was headed. Anyway, I looked at Port Canaveral today out of curiosity and what I did not see was where cruise ships leaving Port Canaveral gain access to the open Atlantic. How far south do they have to go? jticarruthers
Port Canaveral is about 2 feet (almost literally) from the Atlantic ... they go basically due East down the channel and are out in the Atlantic before you even realize you are in motion. rjac

twangster
The PTZtv website includes a map below the webcam that you can zoom in and out. Look for the link under the webcam that says "Show Marine Traffic Map and Twitter Feed". It will show you exactly how Port Canaveral is laid out. The map is provided by marinetraffic.com which is another great, free site to explore. They have an app as well for phones and tablets. Ships don't have to use the Intra Coastal waterway to go South. It's a straight shot pretty much due West East into the open Atlantic.

That's a great website and I have been using the "Show Marine Traffic Map and Twitter Feed". I guess I just didn't zoom in enough to see the channel heading out to the Atlantic. Not very much time for a sail away party leaving Port Canaveral!
