Diamond internet

Is there a % discount on internet for diamond if bought on ship? or is it just the cash equivalent to one day as I am not sure what it costs per day onboard to see if it is worth it or just to buy on  cruise planner

Each D member gets the cash equivalent of one day. It's something like $25.99-$29.99 per day onboard.

If you want it for the entire cruise for 7+ nights, it's cheaper to get it pre-cruise during a sale.

It's my understanding that if you buy it pre-cruise that you won't get a refund in the amount of what it costs per day. Instead if you go and ask you'll get 1 day free on a second device.

The only times I've gotten it, I've bought it on board midway through the cruise for the duration, that way the 1st day is free and pay for the remainder. If you have to have it for the entire sailing though to stay in touch or work I think it's definitely cheaper to get it in the Cruise Planner.

Couple other things to consider, the onboard Diamond and D+ discounts apply to each guest but it cannot stacked in a single purchase.

Also, if you are willing to give up internet access on day 1, you can purchase the plan on day 2 for 6 nights but with discount is essentially 5 nights.  For example:

cruise plan for 1 device $19.99x7=$139.93

day 2 with one day Diamond discount:

$25.99x6=$155.94-$25.99=$129.95

In this scenario, you are only giving up internet from sail away to midnight.  With D+ two day discount, this is the approach I do every cruise.

The price for internet onboard is $29.99. So, the only way it actually works out is if your cruise is 4 nights or less. The price in CP will always be better unless you are D/D+ and also prime in the casino.

I am not sure if you were directly responding to my post regarding onboard cost or if we just responded to topic at the same time, but my example came from my August 7 night Quantum sailing as well as my upcoming Oct Wonder CP offer $19.99 ($25.99).  I have not ever personally seen onboard at $29.99, but frequently see $25.99.  But yes, at 29.99, YMMV, even then, I think D+ is still better off getting onboard.

This would be responding to your post.

I was replying in general.

The CP price quoted is still based on a discounted price and could be based on itinerary and length of cruises. My understanding is that Alaskan cruises have cheaper per day internet as a whole. I used my D/prime discount in Jan before the price increased and it was $27.99 a day on Grandeur for a 5N. My last sailing as D in April the internet was $29.99 onboard.

I think you are right that cost is based on itinerary and length of cruise.  I just looked at the pricing for 3N and 4N Utopia in August 2024.  Cruise planner lists $23.99 ($30.99) per day.  I believe the $30.99 accurately represents the onboard cost and if so, the Diamond/Diamond plus onboard discount is better deal for a single device plan.  I guess at the end of the day, it is a gamble against onboard pricing.

Yes, shorter cruises have a higher onboard price for internet and beverage packages. Which you think would be the opposite.

I am now D+ and also prime so I won't get internet in CP for anything less than 5N because with the perks and discounts it is cheaper.

On recent 7 day cruise I pre purchased discounted internet package for entire voyage.

My wife then used her D+ free days for day 2 & 3, and ....

We then added a second device on to my package for days 4-7, using my D+ free days.

Based on the onboard ZOOM desk rep, this was the best way to do it.

Seemed to work out for us

Thanks for sharing this approach.  I like the idea that you were able to apply your Diamond+ 2 days as a discount on a 2nd device essentially giving your wife six days of service for price of 2 discounted days.  I am definitely going to look into this for my next sailing.
