baltodave Posted March 14, 2023 Report Posted March 14, 2023 Hi Everyone, We're taking Radiance on an Alaskan cruise in June and I'm looking for excursion ideas for Icy Strait Pt and Sitka (we already have excursions booked in Juneau & Skagway). In either of these stops, are there tour operators on the ground near where the ship docks? Any recommendations for these stops? BTW, it's just for me (I'll be 65) and my wife (61); both in decent shape. Thanks! Quote
Woody14 Posted March 14, 2023 Report Posted March 14, 2023 Icy strait point is small. We had booked a private whale watch tours with glacier wind g-wind.com which was great. I don't recall seeing vendors there for tours but I could be wrong, we were focused on getting to the gondola to take us to the other part of the port and not up the mountain. The private tour companies all picked up in one location but it was an area for people that had them already arranged there weren't people selling at that spot. We only briefly explored the part of the port where we were dropped off on our way back from our tour. baltodave 1 Quote
KJones Posted March 14, 2023 Report Posted March 14, 2023 We opted for whale watching at ISP through Hoonah Travel Adventures. The port is small and is privately owned/operated by the local tribe. The Adventure Center on the map had some excursions for sale - but it may have just been for the Adventure Park and zipline. Private tour companies picked up at the Excursion Hub, and as previously mentioned everyone there was had already booked. There is also a shuttle that takes guests to Hoonah. NJCruisers Posted March 15, 2023 Report Posted March 15, 2023 I booked Wild Bear Safari for ISP - I saw it recommended on CC & the Google reviews are excellent. The owner operator's name is Luke and he answered all of my questions (give him a day). We like smaller tours and his is only a dozen people, including him. My others cruisers are ziplining in the morning so we are doing this in the afternoon. We are on Radiance in July Quote
Cactus527 Posted March 15, 2023 Report Posted March 15, 2023 When my spouse and I were in Sitka, we actually just ended up walking around the port area and really enjoyed it. You can climb up to the top of a hill (easy paved walking) that showcases all the surrounding area, walk around downtown, and we even did a little bit of an easy hike around the coastline through forest that gave us a great view of our ship. I specifically remember there being statues of various animals in the area along some of the paths and my spouse and I having a lot of fun with them. Quote
