Pool Chairs

So in reading today's live blog post from Brilliance, the writer states on a sea day all of the pool chairs were reserved at 8 am?  I would assume then that the chairs in the shade are gone even before then?  Is this pretty much the same across all RC ships?  Sounds like people get up early, reserve a chair, eat breakfast, and then go to the pool?

We are sailing on Freedom.  I have young kids who are part fish, so on the days where we are not in port I envision them spending a lot of time in the H2O zone, while mom and dad watch from a chair and enjoy a book and a drink.  Do I really need to get there at 7 am and put towels and bags down on a couple of chairs?

I have only sailed previously on Disney, and while the pools were crowded on sea days, I don't recall it being impossible to get a chair.  The RC ships have a lot more passengers than the Disney ships though, and the pool areas seem to be about the same size.  The RC pool pics I have seen all look horribly crowded.  Someone please put me at ease on this topic!

On many RCL ships, they have started removing towels from saved chairs.  they put a one hour tag on the chair, if after an hour it is still there - the towels are removed and the chairs are freed up for others to use.  I hope all the ships start doing this.  Chairs sit all day long with towels on them being unused. so unfair  (but don't think I will have any problems with this on my cruise to Alaska !!)

If you want Royal Cruises that pool chairs are not a problem and always seem to be open, take a Asian Cruise. It can be prefect beach pool weather, sunny 90 degrees, 2:00 in the afternoon and still many open chairs. The reason is funny, here in Asia white skin is valued and considered to be perfection. In America as we know golden tan skin is the what so many seem to want, the Coppertone Tan, Hawaiian Tropic Girls. So most Asian true to stay out of the sun and will not tan. I still found it funny in America most girls I knew would have killed to have dark tan skin, here in Asia the girls  dream of having white "American" Skin.

  • 2 weeks later...

I was on Allure of Seas a week ago and finding a lounge chair by the pools was quite impossible on seas days.  I even noticed one morning that majority of chairs were already spoken for with towels (not people) by 8:30am.  It was ridiculous.  I saw no one removing towels or placing 1-hr tags...   I did mention this to an employee one day and was simply told that reserving chairs is not allowed; and that it was my right to simply remove someone's towel, place mine down and use the chair if it was unattended for 30min or more.   I was hesitant to do this, though, as all towels are taken out on a person's Sea Pass card and if not returned it's a $25 fee.  I don't know how people can just leave $25 just lying around!
