michelle
On January 15, 2016 the US CDC upgraded their travel notice of Zika Virus to Alert Level 2(practice enhanced precautions) Zika virus is transmitted by mosquitoes, and systems include fevers, headache, red eyes, rash, and joint pain. The illness is usually mild and lasts between 2-7 days. However the alert specifically references women who are pregnant or who are trying to become pregnant (www.cdc.gov/zika/pregnancy/question-answers.html) The notice currently only affects specific cruises calling in to certain Caribbean, CentralAmerica and South America countries. However, the situation is evolving so please regularly check the affected areas, via the following links: http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices andhttp://www.paho.org/hq/. Guests are reminded to take enhanced precautions against biting insects by covering exposed skin and using insect repellant. monorailmedic
I was just wondering if anyone else was worried about this or has any more info, we are headed to Belize and Honduras in May and I have small children. Symptoms of the virus and similar to a common cold and aren't severe. The risk is due to the possible link between pregnant women infected with the virus and microcephaly, where no significant risk is known to exist for healthy persons who are not pregnant or trying to become pregnant. Symptoms: http://www.cdc.gov/zika/symptoms/index.html As always, I don't provide medical advice and you should talk to your doctor about personal risks, avoidance, and mitigation. michelle
Basically it is the pregnant women that have to be the most careful Otherwise if you were to get the virus, from what I have read and heard on TV from Drs. its just a regular Virus that would make you feel awful. But to pregnant women it is dangerous. Carry bug spray for sure and like monorail medic explained I'm not a doctor and there are many articles in the media and online with the CDC that can go over symptoms and questions with this virus.
