non surge protector power pack...

Recommended Posts

I have seen a lot of conflicting information regarding bringing a power pack with extra outlets/usb ports...   Some people say you cant take anything like this and some say you can bring them , just not a surge protector.  Can someone tell me for sure if something like this one at amazon, would be okay?  Will I need it even... i keep hearing that the rooms only have one outlet?

I will be on Anthem.. and will have just some basic electronics..phone, ipad, camera ...and my roommate will have the same.....

If your phone uses a USB-C port for the charging cable, I would recommend buying something like this:  https://www.amazon.com/Charger-Anker-Premium-Desktop-Delivery/dp/B072K5ZJXF/ref=sr_1_13?keywords=anker+usb+c+hub&qid=1562544230&s=gateway&sr=8-13

If you don't need USB-C, this would work: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-5-Port-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone/dp/B00VH8ZW02/ref=sr_1_18?keywords=anker+usb+hub&qid=1562544315&s=gateway&sr=8-18

Then you can plug everything that charges via USB though that hub.

Sometimes I'll bring my European to US power plug adapter (something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Ceptics-CT-9C-Europe-Travel-Adapter/dp/B01NCZJ5UN/ref=sr_1_3?crid=M0OHERJ090DL&keywords=european+power+adapter&qid=1562544436&s=gateway&sprefix=european+power+%2Caps%2C132&sr=8-3) and then use that for the USB hub, freeing up the US style port for my camera battery charger, that needs to plug directly into an outlet.

That is what we use and no problems bringing in onboard.

I agree .... The USB ones are never confiscated but the power strip ones, even without surge protector, are sometimes taken.  I have an old plug adaptor that basically turns one plug into 3... It's not a strip... And that works really well.  Also, definitely being a European plug adapter because that is super cheap and gives you another plug!  Jane

This is the one I have used on the past 3 cruises since I bought it.  No issue bringing onboard in my luggage.  On Explorer though I couldn't find a plug that wasn't crowded or recessed (can't remember which issue it was) to use it. On Mariner the only plug accessible was the one behind the living room TV in the family suite but was able to use it.
