FManke
Are there any differences in cruises that leave from Europe, besides the obvious of more Europeans, than those that leave from the US? Boarding and un-boarding? Regulations and restrictions? Thanks
Matt
Check out Episode 248 of the Royal Caribbean Blog podcast. It's essentially a Europe cruise primer for those that are used to North American cruises: https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/podcast/episode-248-what-you-need-know-about-taking-cruise-europe
bigpete
I think that on most Europe RCI trips, there are more Americans than anything else. On our Jewel trip this past summer, the ship was predominantly American (>60%). Also, most of the times the cruises never leave the EU so there are no customs (Mediterranean mostly). Mljstr
I was on the Jewel in October in the Mediterranean. Boarding was the same. And no customs. I was surprised that most passengers were Americans. I also expected it to be more formal and dressy but not so much. The only difference is the VAT on purchases which no one could ever explain to me. I still don't know if we paid it or not. We purchased all of our excursions on the cruise planner in advance and they were definitely cheaper than purchasing onboard. It will be noted on the Welcome Aboard letter (in small print.) Also, the cruises are usually port intensive so give yourself some time to unwind somewhere.
