  1. Who needs facts when internet rumors and overheard conversations with staff will suffice? FWIW I don't think Anthem would be home-ported in Galveston. It's too new and shiny.
  2. Back in 2011 we were on Enchantment at Labadee and someone had to be airlifted right before the all-aboard time. We were in port with, I believe, Oasis - it was the largest crowd I've ever been in. Here is the chopper coming in to land on the pier.
  3. I'm probably not the one to ask...my idea of a great cruise breakfast is a plate of corned beef hash, smothered in sausage country gravy, and a side of smoked salmon. I'm not kidding. At least through day 4 anyhow.
  4. THANK YOU! My April Rhapsody cruise dropped to $41/day which saved me $24.78 over what I had paid just last weekend. November 2017 Adventure cruise is listed at $46, so I'm going to wait before booking that one. (edited to change Vision to Rhapsody - Vision was last April!)
  5. For kicks I've logged in and farmed the hotels every couple of hours yesterday and today (at Level 19). Racked up just shy of 30,000 chips which I'll completely lose at the tables tonight, LOL.
  6. If you're flying down early, ask at the hotel if you can drop the bags off for a few hours after your return from the cruise. Most places will happily oblige since you're a customer. We stayed at this 'boutique' hotel in Old San Juan where they offered to let us store an unneeded bag there for the week while on the cruise.
  7. I did; I got older. Actually what happened is I was selected to be a 'consumer expert' at the Miami Rum Renaissance Festival in April, and they needed a headshot and bio. The old pic was from 2010 or so, so I figured it was time to update my avatar with the new photo.
  8. Yes, you can play for free. Look for MyVegas on Facebook. Be aware it's going to take hundreds of hours to win a cruise though. I've been playing for a little less than a week, and I've earned 3,140 points. You need at least 650,000 for a cruise. But it's a nice little time-waster, and if you visit Vegas you can cash in for other prizes as well.
  9. I've been playing multiple times per day since you mentioned this. 3,140 points....only 646,860 to go, LOL.
  10. And this, ladies and gentlemen, is how you work a drink package! :)
  11. The 2 for $10 T-shirt sale. Have you ever been to one? It's like a war zone in the XXL size section.
  12. I'm not aware of any cruises where additional gratuities are added (but I don't know about European or Australian sailings, perhaps they are different), but I'm pretty sure there are additional taxes are added when sailing from Galveston and you're not yet out to international waters due to their state law.
  13. Your the 4th person here to admit to being a Ham. :) WC8GOP
  14. Ask for curry if you dine in the MDR (it's not on the menu). We had them every night on Adventure last November, and they were fabulous with each night getting better than the night before.
  15. Pools are mostly salt, but I seem to recall one ship that was fresh...but that was a long time ago.
  16. On one cruise there was a Scotch tasting on a formal night in which we participated, and there were two fellows there that had the full, formal kilt outfit on. That was really neat as far as I was concerned!
  17. Its been a long time since we've been to Jamaica (it was back when they docked at Ocho Rios). There was some sort of strike or protest going on outside the port compound so we stayed in the safety of that area, after our catamaran excursion to Dunns River Falls. Does Falmouth not have a fenced in tourist area at the port?
  18. So how, pray tell, can we locate the Food and Beverage director for specific ships? Specifically Rhapsody, April 1 sailing. I'm recent Facebook friends with the wife of the Bev. director for Adventure (she's a star bartender onboard) so I'm all set there, LOL.
  19. Like I said, I got real lucky on this cruise. I was so happy with the service I took a photo of his name tag on the last night just so I could mention him specifically in the post-cruise survey. We'll be on Adventure again in November - I'll be asking to be seated in his section most definately.
  20. A slice of hash browns? Ewww.... For me, these are hash browns: and these are not:
  21. I found this to be the case on most cruises, but I got lucky on Adventure last November. The beverage guy in my section, Manish Yelve, was top notch - took care of me every night, noticed that I had the drink package so waited until the end of the meal to bring me a single receipt to sign, stopped by repeatedly, mentioned other drinks I might be interested in, etc. It was definitely a pleasant surprise over past experiences where I would have to stop by a bar to pick up a drink on the way into the MDR, just in case the beverage server made himself scarce that evening.
  22. I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one.
  23. Its because they use those pre-fabricated Gordon Food Service style "hash browns" which are the potato equivalent of Chicken McNugget. Real hash browns are shredded potatoes that are fried in a pan, not deep fried gobs of processed potatoes. I'm off my hash brown soapbox now. :)
