And i’m a seltzer drinker plus love specialty coffees.  Haven’t seen a drink package sale for our cruise yet, currently $50 each, but i will keep looking.  Daughter & hubby are firmly in the “buy the drink package” camp!

I've seen Royal offer BOGO on drink packages before so look for that as well!

Run your foot over with their scooter rude, elevator already has 20 people in it, but still room for me and my walker/scooter rude. Want me to give up my seat in the theater (That I was 15 minutes early for so I could make sure I got a good seat) so they didn't have to walk any further rude, cut in any line because I'm a senior citizen rude.

Like you said about kids, I love senior citizens, I'm one of them (Yes I have my AARP card), but there comes the point in life that you should just be nice and go with the flow, I told my wife that if I acted like some of these people to make sure and slap me, please...

My point was and still is, get your expectations straight/right and you will have fun/good time on any cruise.

OH WOW!  That's crazy.  I hope I don't encounter any of that.  My Mom is 75 and would never act like!!!!

But I am with you on expectations.  I always have a great time on my cruises!  Was baffled at my in-laws complaining about it.

Are you sure it doesn't say use by 2/1/2019? I think that might be the case. You have one year after issue to use it.

When we cancelled our 2 connecting roomsand went to a suite, my husband and one daughter ended up with a FCC. I was able to apply my husband's to the same sailing but not my daughter's because she was part of KSF.  I booked a different sailing for 2019 shortly after that and was able to apply her FCC to that deposit even though the FCC expires by Oct 2018 and we don't sail until march 2019. It's use by, not sail by.

It's at home, so I will look at it again tonight to make sure!  Thank you!!!!!!!!

Just so I'm clear,  you, your husband and son each have an FCC from a cancelled cruise.

You are booking two cruises, one with them in June 2019 and another without them in October 2018.    Is that correct?

FCC are in the name of each guest and they can't be used if a guest isn't sailing. So their FCC can't be used for the October 2018 cruise since they aren't sailing, assuming i have it straight as noted above.

The terms of the FCC can be found in the terms and conditions:

*Price is per person (unless otherwise specified above), cruise only, reflects any promotional savings, and is subject to change and availability until booked. Non-refundable deposit: Non-refundable deposit booking (“NRDB”) cancelled prior to final payment due date will receive a future cruise credit in the amount of the deposit minus a $100 per person service fee (the “FCC”). FCC is non-transferable and expires after 12-months from issue date. 100USD/100CAD per person service fee applies to changes to NRDB ship or sail date.

    Hi!,

You are correct on all counts.  I am cruising with my Mom in October so I could use my FCC there.  And then cruising with my husband and son in June, 2019.  The FCC will be expired by then.

I guess my question is if anyone thinks Royal will take pity on me and let me apply my husband and son's FCC to the June, 2019 cruise.  Especially since it's already booked?

    Rude Senior Citizens

I didn't think about that.  Maybe it was because it's Spring Break.  All of my Royal cruises in the past have been on our Spring Break and it wasn't a problem for me.  I am REALLY looking forward to my upcoming cruise in October with my Mom.  Kids will be in school in Texas so there shouldn't be many on the cruise at all.  I love kids, I have them but still...Mommy needs a break.

But, DO TELL about the rude senior citizens!  I know you've got stories to tell.  I wanna hear!  I think we all do!!!!!!  Spill it.  LOL

As a huge Oasis class fan, and also having sailed smaller ships, I have to respectfully disagree.

On all our Oasis class sailings we've always have stateroom attendants that we available. Some were better than others but they have all been friendly in passing and attentive if we needed anything. Keep in mind that they have their break times too and would likely not be available during those hours.

I have never once felt crowded on an Oasis class ship, other than after a show lets out and on first/last day. I find that crowds move through those ships extremely well. I just got off Anthem which has less capacity and everywhere you went it was crowded.

MTD dining is tricky everywhere. People who don't make reservations and just show up will have to wait like a regular land restaurant. In all my experiences with MTD, with reservations, we've had to wait a max of 5 min.

I find the Oasis class ships have even more variety in food than other smaller ships.

Last but not least, I have found Royal's service to be pretty consistent across the fleet. There are some outstanding ones and some not so pleasant ones. But that is daily life too.

Here's the thing....like anything in life, you have to experience it yourself.  Sorry to hear that your family did not have a good time, but that could be a one off time or it could be that bigger ships really aren't to their liking. The thing is that you will never know until you try it out for yourself. I will say this though. Sailing Oasis does require some prior research and planning. It will make the whole experience so much better. And those ships have venues and entertainment like none other.  Wouldn't you want to see for yourself? I am a firm believer that any RC fan should give it a try at least once if possible. ?

Thanks for the info and advice!  Very much appreciated.

Yes, maybe it was just them and their opinions.  I was shocked at everything they had to say badly about it!

  7. I have future cruise credit for a cruise that I cancelled back in December, 2017 that was to occur in March, 2018.  Anyways, I can use the credit through sailings up to 2/1/2019.  I've booked a cruise with my family for June, 2019.  Do you think they would extend the cruise credit for this cruise?  Anyone had any luck with Royal on this?

I'm doing the Liberty cruise in October with my Mom and I could use just my cruise credit for it, but my husband and son also have cruise credits and I can't use theirs.  Thoughts?

  8. So, as you will see from my signature and what cruises I've been on with Royal, we have yet to go on an Oasis Class ship.  Long story short - we were supposed to go with family this Spring Break out of Cape Canaveral on the Oasis of the Seas but I was laid off late last year and we had to cancel.  :38_worried:

The family came back (all of which have cruised Royal before - but not on the big ships) and they complained about it!  The major complaints were:

    • Our room was taken care of, but we only saw our room attendant once at the beginning of the cruise and never again for the entire cruise (7 days!).  When we needed something, we called him but we always were waking him up?????

    • The ship had too many people.  Unlike other ships where we never stood in line for anything, on this ship we did.  Crowded.

    • My Time Dinning was a CLUSTER!  We always had to wait at least 30 minutes to be seated.  Once night we waited an hour.

    • The food everywhere was bland and not near as good as we've had on other Royal ships.

    • Overall, service was horrible and we felt staff was WAAAAAAY over-extended.

These "complaints" makes me never want to go on one of these big ships now.  Has anyone else had the same experiences??

    Thanks!

purchasing deluxe package for everyone in the cabin over 21 what used to cost me 300 now costs me 600 even though the other person in my party may and I repeat may drink one beer a day I was told that the exceptions do not take into consideration the very light drinkers and a very close friend of mine asked me what would stop him from claiming religious expense and sharing I said everything is paid for and recorded to your seapass if the computer saw any irregularitys  to your ordering they would be able to detect it and probably revoke your package with no refund

As you probably already know, I think Royal was the last to adopt this rule as many other cruise lines have had this rule forever.  I just hadn't heard that they put this rule into play yet.  Wow!  Good to know!   When did they announce this?

    Thank you.

Cost. Many cruise lines used to do this and stopped for expense reasons.  I remember seeing it about 10 years ago. I was fascinated at the sheer amount of food and the presentation.

Boooooo.  I hear cost is the reason why we don't have steel drums anymore on cruises too!  A keyboard with "simulated" steel drums isn't the same.

I would be willing to pay more if they bring these things back!!!!

  11. We've been to these ports several times.  The following are my recommendations:

San Juan - We simply walk around Old San Juan and around the fort.  BUT...we always have a drink and bite here:  https://chocobarpr.com/

Also, every time I am in this port we go to Mi Pequeno San Juan (store in Old San Juan) where I buy a new piece of art (hand-painted house front of Old San Juan) to hang in my house: http://www.mipequenosanjuan.com/handpainted-houses-old-san-juan.html

The address of the store is:

    Mi Pequeño San Juan

    152 Calle Fortaleza
Old San Juan, Puerto Rico 00907

    Tel. 787-721-5040

St. Maarten - Before the hurricane(s) last year my favorite beach in the whole-wide world was on this island.  Maho Beach.  The hurricane washed it away.  There is no more beach and this makes me SO SO SO sad.  However, the bar/restaurant next to the beach (Sunset Beach Bar) is still there and they have fabulous drinks and a perfect view of planes landing in the island's airport.  Check it out.  Here is a link to the place:  http://sunsetsxm.com/

Labadee - Relax here, relax here, relax here!  Scoop it up quick but renting a beach bed for the day is what we always do!  It will be too late to book on the Cruise Planner I think?  Look into it.  Worth it.  The roller coaster thing they have (I forget the name) is a blast too.  A must do.

I totally understands what you are saying. Jamaica is a little bigger than most people think, in fact it is 4,411 square feet. Excursions could be a hour away, but for most part the drive is scenic and so it is a great way to get to see some of her beauty. I think the next time you are on the island, you should try and explore the island a bit more. As it relates to Red Strip Beer, no it is not and was not closed. It is a great beer and it is synonymous with the island.

  13. Why do desserts taste like there is no sugar in them on Royal Cruises?

After about our 3rd RC cruise, we asked someone with Royal about this and they said they are paying mind to the diabetic eaters on board as well as gluten free.  They went on to tell us that if we want something with sugar we can purchase Ben & Jerry's or buy a cupcake.

Later in our stateroom when my husband and I were talking about the answer we were given we both joked - Well, what about the people who WANT desserts with sugar and that taste like a dessert?!?!?!?!  Why should we have to buy sugar if we want it?  We are on vacation, not over-weight, and don't have a dietary restriction.  We want SUGAR on vacation!

Over the years we have noticed desserts have started to taste a little bit better.  But still not great.  It can't be a money thing right?  I'm sure they could whip up a huge tray of brownies that taste good, right?

Anyways, just wondering if anyone else has noticed this?

@rjac Thanks for taking the time to read my article!

I get irritated when guests leave cups and plates in the shop. Sometimes guests will try and bargain with me to get a lower price, and when I say the price is final, they will ask another shop-staff - thinking they will get a different answer.

Oh my gosh Chris!!!!!  The trash, cups and plates guests leave everywhere irritates the YOU KNOW WHAT out of me too and I am guest!  When I see anything out of place I pick them up and put them in the proper place.  My husband gets SO irritated with me...he is like - Honey, why in the world are you cleaning?  We are on vacation.

I also clean up my stateroom like this.  I make sure everything is in the trash and things are not left out and about.  I make the bed and I even compile the towels and put them in the bathtub when we are ready for new ones.  It drives my husband crazy (even after being together/married for 22 years)!  But I know that it's appreciated.  That is why I do it.
