IMG_2605.heicIMG_2618.heicHello….We went on this trip back in September of 23. Went up the hill, made a loop somewhere along the route as the tracks went on farther, then returned down the mountain. Absolutely stunning views. Take pictures from outside between cars, train doesn’t move too fast. They picked us up close to dock and we returned to the station in town. Maybe a 10 to 15 minute walk back to ship. Side note, pay the dough and get a plate of king crab legs after your rail experience.😋

I guess what I'm looking for is the name of the excursion. It seems to me that the excursions in my cruise planner say motorcoach back down or don't mention the mode of transport back down.

I’ve done the round trip 3 times and never once did a motor coach back. My personal tip is to book the VIP car. Much better experience than the cattle cars!

@Ryan79Please elaborate on your VIP car experience. We are considering that one. THANK YOU!

@Baked Alaska The entire car had about 10 people total. We had our own restroom. Had snacks and drinks (including beer/wine) as well as MUCH better and more comfortable seating options. We could get up and walk around the car for different views and seats. Our car was at the back of the train so we were able to go onto the steps at the back and take amazing pics and videos. We also had a dedicated server who told us a lot about the history of the spots we passed. It is worth every penny and I’d never go non-VIP ever again. Book it NOW!

if the mode of transportation back down is not mentioned, it will be via the train. You won’t get off the train at all on the round trip option.
