rjac Posted June 12, 2024 Report Posted June 12, 2024 At a loss for tipping in Italy and Greece. Taxi cabs, private driver, restaurants, etc. Appreciate any advise/recommendations. rjac Quote
RoyalGreek Posted June 12, 2024 Report Posted June 12, 2024 Both Countries are pretty much the same: Taxi Cabs: No (download the Bolt App) for use in areas in Greece and Italy. UBER also works in some of the areas as well. Private Drivers: Yes (tours or taxi tours) Restaurants: Depends (high tourist areas most of the time yes) No tourist area that are "Mom and Pops" no. TIPS: If you have never traveled internationally make sure you have a Credit Card with no Foreign transaction fees. Both countries use the EURO. Only use Bank ATMs for cash withdraws. When using ATM's NEVER CHOOSE the "USD Conversion" option. Only EURO (local) conversion. The bank fees are extremely high if you have them convert to USD. Both Countries are very safe and the people and food are incredible. Tell us about your trip. JohnK6404, Bob_KY, TessFromFlorida and 1 other 1 2 1 Quote
FOB Posted June 13, 2024 Report Posted June 13, 2024 If taking a taxi in Europe hubby and I would always round (normally to the nearest €5) unless it was just over a €5 multiple and it’s a low cost (under €20) when we would add on another €2. This also works if you anre paying by card which might be possible And we are from Scotland and we don’t have a major tipping culture here. for restaurants- check if they have automatically added service charge to the bill - in which case we wouldn’t pay anything more otherwise we would do something in multiples of €5 mainly because a £5 is the lowest bill you can get in Scotland so we just use the same logic in Europe Quote
