Bushel of Oranges to bring home from Florida on a cruise out of Newark, NJ?

Recommended Posts

Good evening,

In the past we have driven or flown to Florida for the Christmas school break and bought a bushel of Oranges and potentially also a bushel of Grapefruit on our last day before heading home to eat at home n January and February.

This year we will be taking a cruise out of Newark, NJ (Anthem of the Seas) with the first stop being Port Canaveral.

Which leads me to the question:

"Has anyone asked if they could bring aboard a bushel of Oranges and/or Grapefruit, not to eat on board, but instead to take off on the disembarkation day?"

I suspect the answer is no, this is not allowed, but I can hope until I receive the no answer.

Thank you for any info you can provide.

Have a great day!

Thanks for the links.

The Australian question link would not let me ask a question without logging in, and when I logged in, it brought me to the US or North American site where I could not ask the question. 🙃

Update: I found a place to ask the question directly to Royal Caribbean. Crossing my fingers, but I suspect the answer will be no, as oranges do not store as well / easily as bottles of alcohol.

We will miss our January and February bushel of Florida oranges.. but will just have to tell ourselves that we didn't have the 20 hour drive to Florida, to get them.

Thanks again for the links.

Have a great day!

Thanks for the link.

I think it is mainly Nostalgia.

Since I was 'knee high to a grasshopper' we (Mom, Dad, Sisters, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, ...) would go to the Daytona Beach Flea Market and pack our own bushels of oranges and grapefruit twice each visit.

Once when we arrived, which we would eat by the time we had to head back to the great white north.

Second time when it was time to head back north, packing at least a bushel of oranges and a bushel of grapefruit for each car in the convey.

My parents owned a grocery store and we were all well trained in maximizing the amount of fruit that would fit in a bag.

Yes, mainly Nostalgia, but also, I noticed that the cost of shipping to Canada is double the cost ($29.99 USD) of shipping to New York State ($14.99).

I know I'm getting old, as I'm sure I remember the cost of a bushel of oranges (Ugly but delicious) was about $39.99.

If I could pick, pack, and bring from Port Canaveral with me on the cruise I'd pay up to $29.99.

Checking now if I got an answer from Royal Caribbean.

Thanks again for the link and have a great day! 🙂
