BrosephB
This week a Detroit radio station was discussing how a band was not permitted into Canada due to some members on the bus having a DUI on their records. Other people, with alcohol offenses, started calling in with similar stories of being turned away at the border. Apparently, Canada has stricter laws than the US when it comes to any type of alcohol driving offense. I have planned a trip to Alaska that sails out of Seward, Alaska, and arrives in Vancouver, Canada, on Radiance of the Seas. My worry is I won’t be able to take the cruise because I have a DUI on my record from 1993. Has anyone come across this issue when sailing from US to Canada? Will I be allowed on the boat? Flyer
I'm not saying yes or no, but there may be some immigration declarations or forms you can fill out ahead of your trip. If you declare it on the form, you may be able to get pre-authorization for the DUI charge before you go. You may be able to youtube "Canada immigration DUI" and find some videos which run through the scenario. I believe I have seen this scenario out there. Vancity Cruiser
There are ways around it but you will have to fill out some forms and probably pay a processing fee. Typical governmental money grab. https://help.cbp.gov/s/article/Article-402?language=en_US
Cinnamon
Canada Border Patrol - Sailing from Seward, Alaska, to Vancouver with a DUI - Will I be allowed into Canada? In reference to the Vancouver Border Patrol, can anyone advise if they personally have been through this process and what happened.
Villageidiot
30 year old DUI will probably be easier to handle then one more recent. I would call the Canadian Port of Entry near you and talk to one of the officers. They can give you some guidance.
CruiseGus
From what I have been told by a couple of other who have had that experiance, when you arrive in Vancouver the Canadian authorities will have you escorted to the airport and put on the first avalible flight to the US at your expense, does not matter where it goes in the US. Now one of them said the Canadian agent was in a good mood and let them wait for there scheduled flight which was early afternoon the same day. I'd also run a record check beforehand with a company that does FBI database checks, as some of the older ones never got reported.
