Patchy
Hi all, we’re heading out soon on a sailing and it looks like there will be six ships (including ours) in St. Thomas at the same time. We’d love to go to Magen’s Bay beach but are worried that it will be too crowded (and too expensive for that matter). Also considering the Skyride but wondering if that would be packed as well. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!
teddy
There are two different places ships dock…Crown Bay and Havensight. I think it’ll obviously be more crowded with more ships, but still worth it. Magen’s bay was $10 each way taxi ride and $5 each to get in when we were recently there. I suspect there are cheaper ways, but we were only there for 6 or so hours and just wanted to get to the beach. When we caught a taxi to return to the port, there was a “dispatcher” type person there who was making sure people got on the correct taxi for their ship
Patchy
Thanks, @teddy! I’ve heard that Magen’s Bay can be expensive to rent chairs and to get food / drinks. Have you found that to be the case? I welcome others’ thoughts as well!
dr martini
outside of hurricane season in the late summer/fall it's never really quiet on saint thomas. especially on the southern side with the two ports and the downtown, saint thomas is the main hub for about a dozen or more other islands, it has the biggest airport and seaports moving people and supplies for everything you can think of that people need to live. the beaches will be busy, the downtown will be busy, like anywhere else if you wait until noon to get somewhere, it will be more crowded and full than it was at 9am. consider maybe getting off early and then getting back on the ship by 1 or 2 and have the pool deck and slides etc all to yourself? Otherwise look into catamaran or boating type excursions that will take you to saint johns or other islands that can only be reached by boats, they are much, much quieter
