Hilstr0717
We just got an email saying that the coast guard is inspecting Brilliance the day of our cruise and now no one can board until after 12. Is this a regular thing? I’ve never heard of such a thing.

Just maybe....the ships captin and RC got notified just how long that it will take the coast guard to preform inspection of brilliance and everyone who is cruising that day was emailed that they could not board until after 12pm because then maybe....the coast guard could not inspect the ship with passengers roaming around the ship. When a cruise ship is entering another country the coast guard (or the country local officials) will board the ship and inspect the ship before people can enter the country at the port of call or disembark the ship when the ship dock at her home port. The US coast guard inspects every ship upon return to her home port in either the United States or in Puerto Rico.

They do extra checks/drills sometimes. In 2008 we were at the port to board the Jewel of the Seas and the Coast Guard executed a surprise drill on them after the previous cruise had disembarked...complete with untying from the dock and crew emergency drill with life boats. They didn't start boarding until close to 2:00. Have only seen or heard of that once in 16 years. Royal bused us to a hotel and had us in their conference facilities until the ship was ready to board. Threw the first day out of whack for the crew! mworkman
We got the same message for our cruise on Serenade, which were on now. We delayed getting off Indy and was finally booted off at 10:00 am. We caught the shuttle over to Serenade and they had boarded everyone up to Gold..We checked in and boarded at 10:35 am. twangster
Routine periodic inspections are quite normal. At least annually and sometimes more frequent. There are also periodic health and other inspections.
